- In the spirit of Halloween I decided to do a spookier video than usual (not really). Today I look at the 5 roller coasters with the spookiest themes. Big thanks to these channels for the footage:
Alton Towers
Kings Island
HiedeParkResort
ElToroRyan
ThemeParkFinaticUK
MattKillion Media
Dollywood Parks & Resorts
Disney Parks
RCS Reviews
Universal Orlando Resort
Music used in this video:
Marvel Super Heroes OST, T05 - Spider Man
Marvel Super Heroes - Captain America Theme
Hydrocity Zone Act 1 - Sonic Mania [OST]
You missed the creepiest thing about The Smiler. The soundtrack, gets stuck in your head more than even In The Hall Of The Mountain King which is very impressive for Alton Towers.
he also didnt talk about the giant cylindrical tv screen!! thats like my favorite piece of theming ever
Also forgot about the projection mapping in the ride building queue as well as the lights turning on and flashing as you leave the station, this guy missed so much detail ahahahaha
He also forgot about the marmaliser or whatever it's called
HA HA HA
2:50 “completely ignores giant mechanical spider”
And completely ignores the spooky screens on the second lift hill which is vertical
-completely ignores
The mamaliser
The laughs
The screams
The ministry of joy
Dr. Kelman
And the entire theme-
I think this mistake was made mainly because he clearly hasn't been on the ride and has only experienced whatever has been filmed of it
which I guess is understandable but I think his take could use some correction pun intended
@@krisinallcaps 👍
2:52 “There isn’t a lot of theming on ride”. The Smiler has probably the best theming on ride in the UK. The marmaliser in the center fits the theme perfectly and keeps the illusion going even while travelling at a decent pace. The train interacts with the marmaliser several times during both the first and second segment, and does have some mist while passing under one of the legs. I will admit the rest of the ride area doesn’t have much, but the concrete still matches the theme of a “correction hospital”. Merlin really knocked the theming in the queue, the exit, the station, and the ride area out of the park with The Smiler.
Wickerman and Th13teen are scarier than Mystic Timbers by a mile
Yeah but the theme for th13teen is kinda basic, even if it is spooky
@@ryane5281 you can’t say th13teens theming is basic when mystic timbers has a shed. The queue for Th13teen it terrifying with a Tesla scaring the he’ll out of you ever few minutes and the drop track.
@@coastercountdowns7736 I didn't say the theming is basic. The theming is fantastic. The theme itself is what is basic. The idea of the woods being haunted isn't the most creative.
@@ryane5281 but my point is that it’s spookier than mystic Timbers by a mile
@@coastercountdowns7736 I don't disagree, and it would probably make more sense on the list, but the idea of a spooky scary haunted woods isn't particularly new.
The smiler though comes together as great themeing. Soundtrack is very creepy but catchy, the station is well themed with the hospital vibe and flashing lights as you head off into the hidden inversion, the marmalizer is huge and works great to further the theme whilst looking cool and most of all the ride itself is pretty insane with all its twisting inversions and makes you come off smiling so just all overall comes together as a great experience even if a lot of it is just concrete with yellow decals it all works.
I definitely think Verbolten is worth at least an honorable mention. Especially with that surprise element in there that we don’t talk about. That ride legitimately spooked me my first time, and I love that every ride is a slightly different on ride experience.
Yeah it definitely does. I totally forgot about it. Idk what I was thinking
I thought for sure Verbolten would get on the list too.
It’s called Miami River Lumber because Kings Island is located right next to the Little Miami River
The lower western half of Ohio is known as The Miami Valley. Cause they contain both Little and Big Miami Rivers. Love when hometown stuff gets brought up
Let's be honest, UK coaster themes are messed up: Smiler, Wickerman, Saw The Ride, Walking Dead The Ride, Nemesis, The Swarm. We are some crazy British Psychos
What have they been putting In our tea 😂
Don't forget th13rteen!
@@humanperson4605 That ride is legendary
The smiler should’ve at least been second, It’s literally about a facility for depressed customers and they convert them to be forced to smile and the add campaigns were so creepy and it always says you belong to the smiler. They were giant blades, hypnotizing wheels, a bunch of videos of patients on the huge mechanical spider, the queue is pretty creepy your surrounded by cages, and the inside part is so scary, Plus you didn’t note the dead body that sprays blood at you in the saw theme.
Wickerman ?
I think you're being a bit harsh on The Smiler saying it didn't take any "brainpower". Wicker Man definitely deserved a spot - it's a family coaster and it's so funny/sad seeing the kids shivering with fear after the pre-show, I'd have bailed at their age.
Dude, wickermans theme is pretty spooky. You are being sacrificed for a cult ritual and the massive wooden effigy of the god is really good. And don’t even get me started on the soundtrack .
Another coaster themed to a "horror" film. Still a great ride though.
Sky Scream and Xpress Platform 13 are so overlooked. You should watch the queue walkthroughs.
Sky Scream is themed to a Zombie Apocalypse. There is extensive theming in the queue, smoke, lighting, ambiance, animatronics, gory effects, and sometimes scare actors. Only issue is, there isn’t much theming in the ride.
Xpress platform 13 is themed to an abandoned haunted metro station. At first, you enter some cattle pins that has some metro theming (ticket booths, lockers, walls, etc) but not creepy. But then, same as Sky Scream, you enter a portion with extremely loud noises, dark rusty train tunnels, cool effects, fire, jump scares and other cool things. Unlike Sky Scream, the station is well themed and creepy, and there is theming during the ride. The launch sequence is really cool, and on the break run there is a loud train sound, a crashed vehicle and fire.
Nemesis: "Am I a joke to you?"
Wickerman: *allow me to introduce myself*
@Top5madness yeah octonauts defo spookiest
Remember he is american the fact that two european rides got mentioned is enough.
Verbolten doing The Office double takes
Wait wait wait, where is Van Helsings Factory (Moviepark Germany), I think it could have easily made it to the second or first place. The theming is just so on point, throughout the que, the ride and the building itself. There are even jumpscares included in the lift hill
I've never heard of that before. Maybe I'll make another part next year with everyone's suggestions and I'll put this on that list
@@Coastoons Definetely, you need to check it out, it`s an amazing ride with amazing theming. My favorite attraction out of the parc (Moviepark Germany) for sure
That was my first thought too. Van Helsing has werewolves and vampires trying to kill you :)
Van Helsing and Sky Scream were the first two coasters that came to my mind
Alton Towers is my home park, and I’m expecting at least two of their rides to be on this list.
There's one on here
@@Coastoons yeah, I feel like Th13teen and Wickerman have better theming than Banshee and at least deserve an honourable mention.
the queueline themeing for mummy is also really good like it makes you feel like youre underground exploring the tomb or something while you’re walking through the line
I know it's not a roller coaster but my favourite spooky ride is Mystery Castle at Phantasialand. It's an indoor launched drop tower. When you enter the tower you get some Frankenstein-esque theming and sometimes also scare actors in the queue. When it's your turn to ride and you are in your seat, the gondola is lifted a few metres and there is a loud thunder and flashing lights on the ceiling. That 1. Scares you because it's totally unexpected and 2. Causes you to look and in that moment you're launched upwards. The rest of the ride is pretty much just darkness, thunder, lightning and not really knowing where how far up you are and whether you're going up or down. It's really amazing.
The Smiler soundtrack is so scary but yet so fire, it hypnotizes you.
5 Spookiest Themes
Merlin: YES..
2:52 Massive mechanical spider
Coastoons: I'll ignore that
Lmao Airtime Thrills kind of had the same idea as you in his newest video
I died when I saw his video in my recommended
The smiler, Th13teen, Nemesis, Wicker man, the swarm, Darren Browns ghost train: are we a joke to you????
I'm missing xpress platform 13 (Walibi Holland) it's themed to an abandoned platform that was caught on fire. The queue theming is amazing and it does have some onboard theming
The queue for Xpress is tight and claustrophobic too. Perfect for a haunted underground subway. After being cluttered in line, the outdoor tangled layout is dynamic.
Th13teen and smiler, Alton towers has lots of creepy themes, and the smiler ride is built around a spider, the soundtrack, the station is wacky, and the. when you reach halfway there’s this all this weird screaming and laughing creepily. The on ride theming is ridiculous and it starts of in the dark with an eerie “Join Us” in a dark voice followed by a surprise inversion, overall smiler has the most terrifying theme
With the smiler, after they accident they removed a lot of the theming
Have you even seen a POV of the Smiler? Did you see the massive spider in the middle with six legs. ‘Didn’t require any brainpower’. If you had actually looked at any pictures of the Smiler then you could see that it is super creepy. You said ‘just a little bit of steam’. No. There are the hypnotist wheels, the screens in the middle the scented gas, the saw blades and so much more. That’s a bit rude to say that it didn’t require any brainpower as the theming is remarkable.
Also you said that Thorpe Park isn’t known for their theming. Did you see the Swarm... the theming is world class.
Literally, he missed so much, Totally agree!
You missed Baron 1898, I know the theme isn't really scary, but the anticipation, if that's considered scary, is great. And the on ride theming.. *wow*
Worthy of such a list: Colossos: Kampf der Giganten and Wickerman (similar theming that looks straight out a Halloween haunt); Kärnan (extremely elaborate haunted castle theme); Fluch von Novgorod (first half themed to medieval curse); Xpress: Platform Thirteen (last portion of the queue is a walk-through horror maze - ride not themed at all); Van Helsing’s Factory (vampire theme).
I definitely agree with number 1 This was my first coaster I ever ridden. And I didn’t even know that it was a coaster at that time. The themeing and the soundtrack…. oo the soundtrack really scared me half to death. The layout is quite good even tho I don’t know what it is but I like it
Where is wicker man at Alton towers that’s should definitely be on the list.
If you have a fear of being burnt alive this would be your nightmare. The story is you are being sacrificed to the gods by a cult from the UK and you are going to be trapped inside the wicker man ( there is a brilliant statue of the wicker man which on ride you go threw 3 times) and burnt alive as part of the ancient ritual. So if you have a fear of being burnt alive this won’t be your idea for a great theme. For the full story just search on RUclips Wicker Man Preshow Alton Towers and you will find some great videos which would give you the idea of the full theme for Wicker Man. The preshow was so scary it made my younger brother (who was 9 at the time) cry not because he was scared of the ride but because the preshow scared him so much.
Why do I love this video so much
I feel like a "that guy" , but the Little Miami River runs right behind Kings Island, so it doesn't take place in Miami Florida.
5:36 That headbanging tho
Lol I didnt even notice it before you pointed it out
Have a look at the flying Dutchman in the Netherlands, a coaster that's based on a haunted ship is a creepy theme in my opinion.
Aw, yes, the haunted aspect would qualify it for this list. The first part of that ride is so atmospheric that every time I rode it I wished the themed part were much longer.
Ye i think flying dutchman might have the best queline ever. And the theming onride is great too.
love the el-p in the background
I would just like to say the smiler is more spooky than mystery mine in my opinion as it has the massive marmalazer in the centre which has seeinges and the story line is better in my opinion
I actually think that van helsings Factory at Movie Park Germany is very scary themed...like I always forget that there is a wolf monster animatronic at the second lift and a scream at the first lift...the queue is also very scary (for me) cuz there are screams and prints on the wall which you can only read when blacklight flashes and there are also hands coming from the ceiling lol...also when you walk out there is an animatronic coming out of the ceiling with a vampire which is so unepxected
Wilmington Brush Garden has an extremely well-themed spooky roller coaster at it, that could have easily bumped your fourth or fifth roller coaster on your list.
Yup I totally forgot about verboten. Wouldve put it at like 3 or 4 if I remembered it
When you feel the Beatles on your leg it’s game over
Oh god oh fuck I feel Ringo
I think i hear yoko ono singing
Mystic Timbers has a themed video available along with the ride photos. It shows an animated haunted tree reaching for the train as it goes by. If you have a photo pass, the video gets put on your card along with your ride photo. Unfortunately if someone flips off the camera, no one on the ride gets the video.
Idk if you’ve ever heard about Xpress platform 13, but I think she deserves more attention. Even though there isn’t a lot of onride theming, the queue is so well themed and so immersive that you really feel like walking down a haunted subway station. It’s by far the spookiest rollercoaster of the Netherlands
That's that Rock n' Roller Coaster clone right? I've heard of it but never really looked into it
@@Coastoons it sure is! It’s still one of my favorite coasters in the park because of the theming. Even with competition as Untamed, Goliath and Lost gravity
I haven’t seen it yet but if wicker man and the smiler aren’t on here I’ll cry
I feel like the swarm should’ve made the list as it’s got pretty decent theming
its not that spooky though
I once found a video of X2 with different audio for halloween, and it was something about you being aboard some aircraft while the military is try to contact you, and eventually they try to shoot you down or something
I started the video and thought straight up "Wicker man and The smiler is gonna go straight to the sky on this one"
Disrespecting Mr Bones Wild Ride
Last time I rode Banshee, I saw a few tombstones along the track (before the batwing if I remember correctly). Also, regarding Mystic Timbers, Miami River Lumber actually takes place in Ohio because of the nearby river, that being Miami River. Also, as seen in the trailer for Mystic Timbers, nature rapidly reclaimed the space of the lumber mill (and the entirety of Kings Island, thankfully, it has since been removed).
Jersey Devil is going to be a pretty spooky themed coaster when it opens in Summer 2021
There are 2 rides at Efteling that should be in here imo
Baron is supernatural but not that scary and doesn’t have a whoke lot of onride theming after the first drop. Flying dutchman should have made it ngl.
Thorpe Park is my home park (where Saw: The Ride is located). I do like saw except for the fact that by the end, your restraints are crushing your legs. Most of the theming is in the queue but there is some also on ride. There is a heartline roll after the first indoor drop with a dead body and blood along with air blowing at you after the indoor drop. Also there is a saw at the bottom of the beyond vertical drop which you don't really notice on ride then after that there is no theming. However, the whole ride feels insane at night in fright nights which I will be going on the 23rd
edit: It is definitely not the best during midday but great a night. Ranks top 3 for me in the park behind Swarm and Stealth. Nemesis Inferno and Colossus are so rough even Inferno being a B&M invert
ayoo saw lets goo
Deffo missed afew. Wicker Man obviously as it's simply the most well themed wooden coaster in the world and it's theme is sacrificing people to be burnt alive. Also at Alton you've got Th13teen which has a well themed station and indoors section of the ride all about some Ghouls trying to catch you and Nemesis about an Alien monser coming from underground to attack civilisation with theming everywhere. Then at Thorpe Park you've got Swarm about a hive of monsters attacking the world which is on it's own themed island and at Chessington World of Adventures there's Vampire although not that themed on the ride itself it has a very well themed station area.
Goliath at La Ronde is the most beautiful coaster to look at.
Xpress platform 13 in Walibi Holland is very creepy and the train horn scares the shit out of me every time
Surprised to see that verbolten isn’t on the list. I’d say it’s one of the scariest, although the theming in the lines isn’t.
I was expecting Cannibal, but I never rode it so I don't really know
Wicker man: Am I a joke to you?
I was thinking at least one bgw ride, either alpengeist or verbolten would have been good
I should've put Verbolten on this. Unfortunately I'm and idiot
One ride that should of been on this and 2nd 100% wickerman at Alton towers
Dude saw the ride’s indoor section is exceptionally themed. Also why wickerman isn’t in the list is beyond me it’s themed to pagan sacrifice
"Trees are coming alive" weren't theh always alive?
5:32 ahhh yes, my favorite ride
this coaster is very good themed in sweden located in grona lund or gröna lund named blå tåget
the smiller gave me nightmares when I was 7 years old.
Nemesis should be at the top spot!
That's not really that spooky tho. 13 has a creepier theme even
If you ever update this, leviathan SeaWorld Gold Coast has to be included, just for the queue!
Mystic timbers was made to honor the old Miami lumber company located by the batt ride and between the powder factory that cought on fire and killed 7 people. The shed was the only thing that was left standing. Homework do it
The reason the walls on the smoker are bare is because there was an accident that caused Alton towers to take down almost everything related to correction
wicker man needs to be in this istg
Coastoons i know what your talking about with the smiler but how can the enormous marmaliser in the centre of the ride not be a good piece of theming. And the soundtrack is outstanding so you cant forget that. And if you moan that the theme is like a grey boring warehouse, that "boring" look is part of the theming as it is set in a lab/warehouse so i dont know. All im saying is that yes i know you havent been to the uk parks but i can say from experience that they are way better than you are making them out to be.
Good video though .
Nice list! But what about Th13teen
Literally any coaster at Alton Towers
That “bum bum bum” song at start of mystery isn’t spooky, it’s epic.
*completely ignore the big spider in the middle of the smiler*
The “ok” sign would make all the spooky themes joyful
Btw does saw have an age restriction
I know I’m late but no, it doesn’t only walking dead and Derren Brown’s Ghost Train
How is smiler not number 1 I understand mummy but smilers theme is super dark and also did you forget the GIANT SPIDER!!!
Banshee needs some attention because its based of horror stories about kings island
OK yeah those are some pretty scary rides but what about 13 at Alton Towers
Mystic Timbers too
jesus christ so many gerstlaurers on this ride
Xpress at Walibi Holland should be on this list. The same goes for Nemesis.
haha yeah that train scared the crap out of me :)
Vampire fits Halloween
Spooky ride HHTT
Spoooookey
So I went on the creepies coaster in the world (in your opinion) when I was 8
So lessons learnt are geratlauers are often themed creepily
what about Verbolten at BGW thats a pretty scary ride too
Mystic Timbers takes place in ohio, it’s just there’s a river really close to Kings Island called Miami River, which is why it’s called Miami River Lumber Co. the lore of Kings Island connects all the main creepy coasters to each other, even the Diamondback.
its literally like you never saw sky screams queue
Banshee gets a shout out but Nemesis isn't even on the list? Mystic Timbers but not Wickerman?
Also, I think you really undersell The Smiler. The industrial look is a design choice, and there actually is a lot going on visually. Plus it has an original score.
The Miami Valley Lumber Company is based off Kings Island being located in the Miami Valley. The county Kings island is located in is Miami County.
wickerman, thirteen, walking dead, the swarm, nemesis, oblivion: am i a joke to you?
Yeah he is so accurate
🙄
Indiana Jones at Disneyland should probably get a mention IMO.
Can easily make a part 2 to this video, Verbolten, Van Helsing and practically any roller coaster by Merlin.
Fun fact I actually went to my home park on Halloween day!
O I know the smiler, the smiler and who could forget the smiler
3 gerschlauers wow there kinda spookey
U should head to smiler to get the full experience. Cuz theres theming everywhere
