"Wear it with attitude! Just because we're older doesn't mean we're passive!" 👍 I also like the concept of modern rather than worrying about trends. Good instruction, Marie-Anne, thank you.
Love the look Marie-Anne, and you do not look 57 - I think your hair is so lovely now it is shorter. Since watching your videos I have learnt so much and find using no more than 2 or 3 colours has really made a difference, even down to the shoes. Thank you so much again.
Your English is so perfect very fluent and articulate. I think that the pause sometimes when you are thinking or translating from French to English is so adoreable I find it so cute. I have grown love for your videos over a period of few weeks. I love your personality and sense of humour. keep going.
I enjoy mixing prints. If done right it's very chic.
I would imagine my family would just think I was losing my marbles if I adopted the half tuck look ! Great video thanks .Love the sassy look .
Thank you for this video. I remember when Jenna Lyons was the fashionista for the clothing manufacturer, J. Crew in the early 2000’s. Her trademark was print mixing, but I thought her combos looked as if she had chosen prints from a huge box of clothing where shirts, skirts, dresses and trousers were thrown into it and jumbled together. I prefer your approach to print mixing: More thoughtful, intelligent and elegant.
Thanks, MA, I didn’t know mixing prints was back on trend. These are my print-mixing rules: 1) One of the prints is a geometric (regular polka dot, stripe, check, or tartan, color-block or regular, repeated shapes like chevron, triangles or squares, etc.) and one isn’t geometric/regular, (floral/foliage, animal, paisley, some tie-dyes, irregular dots, splotches or free-form designs like clouds, etc). 2) The prints have two different scales, with one noticeably larger than the other (but none too large, because I’m petite). An example would be a small, ditsy floral and a medium-thick stripe. 3) Both prints should have at least two colors in common; white, black, navy, khaki green and beige all work well as common colors. Probably the most usual way I mix prints is to wear a floral-print silk scarf with a geometric-print, like a stripe or check on top (shirt/blouse/top/blazer/jacket) with a solid-color bottom.
Marie-Anne I am angry that anyone made rude comments to you just as I am when I experience personally. Words can hurt and cause damage. You look lovely and you are so skilful and generous with teaching of us about fashion and style. I love what you have to say. Thank you 😊🌺 XKaren
Hey Marie Anne! I turned 58 in August , and sometimes I still feel like a teenager especially when I dress up or wear a new shade of lipstick. You look fabulous at 57! Actually 57, 58 ...... 60, they are the new 42 😄. Moreover, I now feel even more confident as my age has given me the wisdom that lot of the younger people around me are lacking. As wisdom comes with age, so I think that our age is actually our greatest confidence booster 😊💖.
Your videos are always such a delight!
I just absolutely adore this outfit!! I love everything about it, the jacket, the jeans, the blouse, the shoes, and your short haircut which makes the outfit just perfect Marie Anne!!
Very interesting video. For the benefit of those of us who might be still “novices,” I wonder if adding a scarf with a print that picks up the colour(s) of the other print might be a way to ease into mixing prints.
I loved the look Marie-Anne except maybe the uneven shirt tuck I think I prefer things to be symmetrical. I love your confidence and attitude you brighten my day and make me laugh. We are in spring now in Australia but the same concept would work with spring/summer outfits. Keep well and hugs from Sydney Australia.xx
Yes me too, more symmetrical is my preference
I love print mixing!Stripes and plaids!
Je suis un grand fan de tes vidéos, tu donnes de bons conseils et tu inspires tes spectateurs à voir la beauté en eux-mêmes. ❤️❤️
Thank you Marie. Really enjoyed this video and picked up a lot of ideas on how to make sprints thank you. You are always an inspiration.
I love wearing stripes with checks. They do work together, if you get the colours and the size of stripes/checks right. Great video Marie-Anne.
Bonjour Marie-Anne,
I like very much your attire, simple and elegant.
Great teaching Marie-Anne. I like your example of brown and blue.
It is always hard when someone familiar to one passes away. I think your idea of the picture as a great example of mixing prints is a wonderful way of tribute.
Subtle and lovely
I love how you carry yourself. I love the idea of trying new fashion trends, but often there is a concern in the back of my mind that maybe I will look like I'm trying too hard to look young!!😂 Beautiful video! Love your look!!
Honestly, that particular look is a bit too masculine for my taste and I usually really like your outfits.
I love the look, very clever, the look is classic, chic, and stylish! good video Marie-Anne!
Enjoyed this video today. We live in a little village in north Idaho USA and there is no style here! But I dress nicely anyway, most of the time. I'm so glad autumn is here.
Hello, Blair, from the SW Idaho metro area.🙋 I have family in CdA , & you are right about the very casual style of dressing.😏
Dear Marie-Anne, I do like mixed prints, but I think that in the outfit you are wearing, the prints are too similar in scale and pattern (both traditional geometrics), and they don’t have enough colors in common. I think the blue and white is in the “sharp” family and the brown check is in the “muted” family, if that makes sense. I really hope I don’t hurt your feelings, and I wouldn’t have offered my opinion if you hadn't asked. Remember, I love 99% person of everything you wear! I think I’m just pretty rigid about print mixing, as you can see in my other comment. Brava for wearing it with confidence, though, that’s the most important thing of all.💕
Love the blazer and shirt one side tuck with the cuff sleeves. You look great! I enjoy mixing prints. I think it’s different and looks good if you know how to style it. Great video!
Love this video even though I have no urge to mix prints. I enjoy a colorful print when I'm in the mood but for me that's enough adventure for one outfit. 😅 I still enjoy considering it though!
This is something new and better addition to my fashion awareness 🥰, thank you !
I do have similar type of blazer and blue and white stripe shirt, it is great, love it.
Good advice, thank you Marie-Anne
You are so funny! Btw I sometimes match different prints like stripes and flowers but in same colours
Classy as always..i love mixing my styles as it makes me feel great.. your advice is very important x
Kenzo's outfit is amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I like mixing prints the way shown on the thumbnail: ovals with stripes, a small geometric print with something more abstract-- like watercolors blending into each other--or a top with tiny black polkadots on white with a skirt that has larger white polkadots on black. I also have a pinstriped cornflower blue button down that I wear with shorts that have colorful sailboats on a background that matches the blue of the shirt. It's a favorite pairing of mine for summer, so happy and nautical! I prefer it when my prints have a common color story.
Great advice - it is often all about the attitude! You began with a great combo. Especially since check jackets are so in this Autumn.
Thanks alot M. A. Great points
You give the best advice and explain styling an outfit so well.❤
Fantastic picture tribute to Kenzo.😇
Print mixing is a challenge for me. I have tried mixing polka dots and stripes. Thank you.
Love ur video Marie-Anne , honestly You always put a smile on my face when I watch ur videos . And as we say in Arabic : MASHALLAH !!! ( so u want get a bad eye ) U really look 10 years younger than ur age. The outfit u r wearing is easy on the eye and I like it . 🦋
Hi anne Marie, i love the idea, it's very much British to mix prints ike lines and dots...or the amazing stylist who used to design the collections of JC crew or St Laurent who was the first to mix unusual colors for instance dark blue and black or pink and red ...however I think with your lovely " pied de poule "jacket , I would suggest perhaps a dark shirt with dots or even better something like a Liberty print .....and then add a nice silk scarf wearing it "deconstruct" somehow I find the "shades" / the "ensemble" a bit grey / depressing but I always like jeans with a jacket and sleeves up and the derbies but the shirt too classic . :-) I agree about your comment...je constate cela aussi "malgré moi" ...I was not aware about the passing of the talented Kenzo , he had such a way of mixing together ...and I like those jeans on you ...PS: anne Marien le lien pour le jean est incorrect , it is a link to a Boden Black dress ..
very cool
Great video 👍👏
The colors of your jacket and blouse are subdued and the prints are small and look really nice together. I couldn't go giant dots and stripes together, that would not be for me. I couldn't do the half tuck look either, my eyes keep going back and forth in confusion. 🤣It's just me I need things to be orderly. Love your style Marie!
That was a lovely tribute to Kenzo! I’m a huge fan of stripes and florals :-)
I love your english
Bonjour Marie Anne. Have to say don't wear a lot of prints, if I do it's probably more likely in the summer in way of a ditzy Navy print top and of course always stripes in sweaters as well as tunics etc .. But now I'm fully into autumnal colour roll neck or cowl neck sweaters with brown, green and black jeans and trousers etc.. Have a lovely bottle green roll neck sweater that I have a matching gilet and jacket with.. Off to a girlfriend for lunch today, she makes lovely meal and I bring scones and jam for afterwards.. Have a great weekend Paula x
Hello Marianne,
Great video as always. happy you are safely back from Paris and to see you staying safe and wearing a face covering. Do you have any thoughts with winter coming how to wear a face covering with a scarf, hat or other accessories without looking like a bank robber. Thank you so
Brown and blue works, but perhaps a darker brown jacket or darker blue jeans could work better. Not a fan of the half tuck; I don't get it!
When you recommend confining one's outfit to three colors, it seems you mean that it's all right to have more than one shade of each color in the outfit. Is that correct? Thanks very much for all your great videos....
I just got my hair cut similar to yours...
Love the look! You look so very stylish.
Just found this..i bought a pink with white atripe linen blend suit. I was going to wear it with a white top, but found a satin floral on Zara that i think is perfect.(and my white tops did nothing for the suit, which surprised me. )
I think I could do the example like in the photo of the blue stripe dress and blue floral jacket. I like the dark/white contrast in that outfit.
I would have preferred a ditsy floral print with the checked blazer, but in similar tones or tones that go well together.
I've tried leaving part of shirt untucked like you have in this video but I just don't warm to it at all, not on me or on anyone really...so todays outfit is nice but not wow.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur its good to mix things up though, we can get stuck in style ruts
What about if you wear brown shoes with brown purse?
I started mixing prints and mixing the masculine with the feminine when I was in highschool and have been doing it ever since. The masculine with the feminine simply became my style. I've always enjoyed contrasts. I moved from California to an agricultural state to care for very elderly parents and I really stand out here because the women wear oversized men's t-shirts and ragged work jeans or sweat pants. I don't fit in at all and get teased mercilessly for my style but I refuse to adopt their terribly frumpy look. Even the t-shirts they wear are worn out and faded. I dress better than that when I clean stalls and do horse care.
I appreciate this tutorial, esp. about using attitude as a style tool! But for me personally, I’m not into mixing prints. Mixing colors, mixing textures - big yes. But mixing prints feels too busy to me. And busy makes me tired. 😆Just my own preference!
Merci Madame. Would you mix a black and white Stripe with a Black and white Houndstooth jacket or just too much
Fortsætter med,at bære et print ad gangen, mode er mode...🌈
I love stripes and checks but avoid flowers ( except for a nightdress) as I think they are ageing and remind me of a chintzy sofa or pair of curtains!
Or even Granny’s apron. Perhaps a tiny flowered print for summer dress would be ok. Block colours on a petite person is better in my opinion.
Geometric prints can be very smart too, as long as they are small.
I think I might horrify you in my use of print and color. I love wearing bright colors and I’m very bold in my mixing of prints. I do it with confidence but I don’t think it’s necessarily French chic. 🤷♀️
@@MarieAnneLecoeur that’s good to know. I always think of French chic as classic with neutral colors. It’s always beautiful. However, I feel my best in bright bold color. 🥰. I always appreciate your videos and your input! 🥰
Your outfit is better than the Annie Hall look.
Overraskende,men holder mig,til kun et print🌹
What would you wear under a black and white wool, large check, single breasted coat☑️
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I do like monochrome 🙏
I have to be careful with prints because I'm more on the short plus side than the short thin side at the moment, so I wear mostly solid colors
I founded you😊following you now?
You always look great and fashionable. But I personally don’t care for mixing of patterns.
What is your Instagram?
Bonjour :) your videos are always so enjoyable and convincing, and your outfits perfect, but I'm afraid mixing prints isn't something I like! Too busy, too much information for the eyes and brain (at least mine) to enjoy the outfit... I just want to look away. It's as if someone had nothing else to wear or tried too much just to be trendy... this is probably because it's what my generation was taught (do not mix prints) and it's still engrained in my mind :) But I will say that you look great as always :) I'd just prefer if either your jacket or your shirt was in a solid colour, it might be less trendy but more chic, in my humble opinion.
👍😍😍😍👍
