We had a coffee in Jenners which has a really beautiful Christmas tree this year. If you go to the Zest cafe on the 4th floor, you get fabulous views of the Christmas market. In the market in Princes Street there's so much lovely food on offer you're spoilt for choice and if you're looking for beautiful Christmas decorations, it's definitely the place to find something a little different. We always love the Christmas Maze and, if you've got time, visit St Andrew Square which is beautifully festively lit and also drop in for a festive drink to The Dome in George Street, which is as beautifully decorated as it's ever been.

i'm going here in a couple weeks for the first time, all of my friends have went and i'm going with my boyfriend this year. i cannot WAIT
Hope you have a lovely time. It'll be lovely to have the city come to life again at Christmas time. Remember to adhere to all government and festival Covid advice, to stay safe, while you visit. Best wishes, David :-)
This vlog is just so lovely! So cosy and making me very excited to visit Edinburgh in December!
Hi Noni, so glad that this wee video is getting you inspired to visit. Lets hope that it's safe to visit soon and you can enjoy Edinburgh in person. It's an incredible city and I so miss welcoming visitors and showing them round. Hope you have a great week and many thanks for taking the time to comment. Warmest best wishes from Edinburgh, David :-)
I was in Edinburgh November 2019 at the start of the market. My first trip from USA. I came solo. I wonder if it will ever come again. The market, I mean. Loved it! Did a bit of Christmas shopping. My family loved the presents. I will definitely make another trip to Scotland, if ever this virus goes away.
Hi Susan, so glad you had the opportunity to visit the market last year and I'm glad you got some great presents. I'm sure it'll be back soon. Thanks so much for commenting, I really appreciate it. Best wishes, David :-)
Glad u enjoyed ur stay in Scotland 🏴
This is May 20223 and can confirm that the market is back again, we visited in Dec 2022. Good to see it return and people enjoying the Xmas festivities again.
One of my biggest desires is to visit Scotland during Christmas!!🏴🎅🌲
Hi Yadhu, hope you can make it over next Christmas to enjoy all our festivities, thanks for commenting and have a great Christmas. All the best, David :-)
Thank you for sharing! This year is a very special year and we are delighted with the last year memories! Stay healthy 🍀
Thank you. Much appreciated :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland Many greetings from Germany!
This totally puts me in the mood for Christmas, even without snow! Thanks for sharing such a lovely video, I am a bit gobsmacked at your artistry, as I just don’t have the eye for cinematography like this. Hopefully, one day, I can get to Edinburgh for Christmastime!
Awww... thanks Stephanie, that's really nice of you. Edinburgh's really lovely at Christmas time. If you do visit the market, it's worthwhile visiting early and also on a weekday, as it gets very busy at weekends. I can also thoroughly recommend the Christmas light show at the Edinburgh Botanics which is lovely too. Hope you can make it over soon and thanks for your support. Best wishes, David :-)
nice video.edinburgh seems like good destination for chrismas
Thanks Igal. Much appreciated :-) Yes, it's a lovely city to visit at Christmas, with lots of festive things to see & do. I can also recommend the Christmas Lights at Edinburgh Castle, the Edinburgh Botanics and the Chinese Lanterns at Edinburgh Zoo. All are really lovely this year. Hope you can visit us soon. Have a great Xmas. Best wishes, David
You know how to create atmosphere. Love the scene you set. I am so christmassy now
Thanks Suzi, I love music and always try to get some nice tunes to go along with the videos. It does take ages to find the right tracks, but it's good fun :-)
I have just found your channel! Can’t wait to see all you’ve posted! Already a huge fan!!!
Thanks so much Mike for your lovely comment. It's greatly appreciated and means a lot to me :-) I'm just about to upload another video, on The Cairngorms this time, which I hope you'll enjoy and will be posting new videos fairly regularly. Thanks again, David
Nice video. I was just in Edinburgh back in September visiting from the United States. It would've been especially delightful to visit the city during the Christmas season. Perhaps in the future.
Thank you. So glad you enjoyed your visit to Edinburgh. It's a great city at Christmas and you must come back soon. Thanks for commenting. Best wishes, David
I wanna be with my scottish's husband there. Not this year. Who knows when... 😢🏴🇪🇦
Hi Carlos, really hope you can make it over soon. It's such a difficult time to be parted from the one's we love. Best wishes, David
A friend of mine is 60 in November this year. She intended to have a weekend in Bruges, visiting the Christmas Market with girlfriends. I told her to consider Edinburgh, and shared your video with her. I think she’s persuaded. Am I right in saying that Edinburgh Christmas Market, is voted the best in the UK? The last two years I have been up in December but after Christmas, and although the market is still on I obviously didn’t get the real feel.
Hi Gary, Hope you're well. I would definitely recommend visiting the Christmas market in Edinburgh early, as it can get very busy the closer it gets to Christmas. I can also thoroughly recommend seeing the annual Botanics Xmas Light Show which I have a video of from last year - ruclips.net/video/PSOSqMKQDOQ/видео.html . It's a personal favourite of mine and I'm sure they'd love it. The Real Mary King's Close on the Royal Mile and a ghost tour of Greyfriars Kirk could also be fun for a small group. They might also like to have lunch at The Lookout on Calton Hill which has some of the best views of the city. The Dome on George Street for a few drinks is beautifully decorated at this time of year and always has a great festive vibe. Hope this helps, Best wishes, David PS - I can also recommend wrapping up warm and doing the edinburgh bus tour. People often overlook this, but it's a great way to see the city quickly, especially if you're only here for a short time.
@@DavidWheaterScotland Hi David, all good with me thanks, hope you are well too. Thank you for the tips and the link, I`ll pass them on. The only one of your suggestions I have done myself is the hop-on, hop-off, Edinburgh Bus Tour and like you, I would definitely recommend it. The guides are really informative and if something takes your interest along the way you can get off and rejoin later.
I am hoping to get up there later this year myself, as soon as restrictions are eased. I was also thinking of bringing my little dog. I notice that you have a fur baby too. How dog friendly is the capital?
I had two Cocker Spaniels, mother and daughter until a few weeks ago when the mum sadly passed. My youngest who is nearly 10, has only ever known life with her mum and is suffering badly. She has become very needy. Luckily for her, I haven`t worked since the end of March, so she`s had me around. Hopefully, she will get better but at the moment it would be hard for me to leave her.
@@bergkamp10able Hi Gary, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. They become such a big part of our lives and one of the family. We lost an amazing dog a few years ago and it was extremely hard to come to terms with, but time does heal, although it's very raw and painful at the time. Glad you enjoyed the hop-on-hop-off tour. As you say, the great thing is the ability to just get off wherever takes your fancy and the guides are some of the best informed in the city. On the whole the city is fairly dog friendly, although the city centre in the high season can be very busy. Take good care of yourself and thanks again for your support. Best wishes, David :-)
I am visiting UK 🇬🇧 this year from Dec 19th to 26th. Any suggestions for the best places to enjoy during Christmas ? Any help/recommendation much appreciated!!
Love from India ❤️
Hi Madhumita, many thanks for getting in touch. As far as I know, there will be a Christmas event of some kind happening in Princes Street gardens and I believe they'll also be re-introducing the ice-rink back to St Andrew's Square, which I've always loved. I wouldn't advise anyone to book travel tickets or accommodation unless they've checked they can enter the country safely under covid restrictions/requirements from the governement. It's vital that we comply with any restrictions that may come into place now and at Christmas. A couple of things I look forward to is the Christmas lights at The Edinburgh Botanics and Edinburgh Zoo, which are great for kids big and old. The best thing to do is check the UK government travel restrictions and also the Edinburgh's Christmas website, as they will list all the things that are going to happen for 2021. Hope this helps, Best Wishes, David
@@DavidWheaterScotland Thanks David!! Thank you for writing back 😊
Yes I have already checked the rules introduced by UK government for Indian travellers and I believe I can travel to UK as I am fully vaccinated!(without any quarantine)😊
But I am still a tad apprehensive if I should visit UK because currently UK is reporting more number of corona cases per day than whole of India 😥
Hi Madhumita, I really sympathise with your concern. It really has been a terribly difficult time for us all. I think the most important thing is to be aware of government guidelines and to be as safe as you can be. I think it's a very personal decision whether to travel, but I guess we have to get back to some kind of life and normality while being responsible and mindful. Take care, all the best, David :-)
Sad it had to be cancelled this year.
Hi Joyce, yes we all really missed the colourful and cheerful festivities this year. I have a feeling though that it might lead to a slight change of direction for the winter festival this year, as there is a feeling that it had perhaps got a little too commercial. I have to say that I love it, but it would be really nice to see the ice-rink being brought back to either the gardens or St Andrew Square. Thanks for commenting and have a lovely weekend. All the best, David :-)
