USA, Singapore & Phil. analysts warn at Pandesal Forum that EDCA bases might lead to dangers of war

American anti-war advocate and former New York senatorial candidate Diane Sare of LaRouche Organization, former Senator Nikki Coseteng, Asian Century Philippines Strategic Studies (ACPSS) Vice-President Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy, Singapore geopolitics and economics analyst Dr. Henry Chan and ACPSS President Herman Laurel appealed for peace and warned that the additional Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) military bases in the Philippines could lead to escalation of US-China tensions over Taiwan or the South China Sea in their two-hour talk at “Pandesal Forum” of 84-year-old Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Quezon City. Economics and politics analyst Wilson Lee Flores acted as the moderator, also expressing his strong support for no foreign military bases in Asean and of the region staying out of the strategic US-China rivalry.
Diane Sare also quoted Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who once worked for “The New York Times”, who reported that the US plotted and trained Navy divers in Florida to carry out the mission to blow up three of the four Nord Stream natural gas pipelines built by Russia to supply natural gas from Russia to Germany. She asserted that her country is benefitting from this by the US selling natural gas. Sare also lamented the continuing sanctioons against earthquake-hit Syria. Sare also invited the public to attend and support the big anti-war “Rage Against the War Machine!” rally on February 19 Sunday 12:30 pm on the anniversary of the Ukraine War at Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. where she will be one of the speakers along with military veterans, civil society leaders, rock musicians and others.
Sen. Nikki Coseteng warns of war dangers & social costs of EDCA bases
Former Senator Nikki Coseteng came out of retirement to speak out of the dangers of the newly-approved USA EDCA military bases, saying: “I have been an activist against American military bases in the Philippines ever since 1970 when I was a college freshman up to the time I was congresswoman when I, then Senator Joseph Estrada and others actors created the anti-bases movie ‘Sa Kuko ng Agila’ (In The Claws of the Eagle). In 1992, we had 12 nationalist senators who courageously voted out the US military bases… Why are we now again allowing American military bases back to our country, is this a 21st century Cold War? War does not have any victors. Look at what happened to all our past wars, how many Filipinos died in the Philippine-American War? Do we remember that in World War II when the Philippines was a US colony, one million Filipinos died due to Japanese military invasion? Why make the Philippines a magnet of war with these EDCA bases? I hope that our leaders will not be blinded by the US$82 million dollars to be allocated for infrastruction in sites of the new EDCA bases, not forgetting the past high social costs of past US military bases near Olongapo and Angeles before such as prostitution, illegal drugs and other problems.”

Ex-Senator Nikki Coseteng said: “I admire the courage and nationalist stance of Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba for opposing possible establishment of an American EDCA military base in his province. Also, I would like to ask the media and the public, what are the real reasons for President Bongbong Marcos agreeing to these new EDCA bases and this pro-USA military alignment, is this related to the Marcos family’s American court cases and alleged hidden wealth there? Let me also ask this to the USA government, when will their country accept that Asia has already risen as exemplified by the peaceful rise of China? In the past 40 years when the U.S. was busy fighting wars in different regions of the world, Asia has been working very hard and resourcefully to modernize our economies. The U.S. of 50 years ago is no longer the USA of today, the China of 50 years ago and the modern high-tech China of today is very different.”
