Hi everyone. I am not a handyman of any kind, but pretty good with following instructions. I found this video to be very helpful in understanding how to replace the water filter housing unit myself. I was tripped up on one part and wanted to share in case anyone else has the same issue. When disconnecting the water lines from the old housing, I did not have any locking brackets on my part. I just could not get the lines to disconnect, after a few trials of different strategies. Finally, I realized the solution. Push down on the gray ringlet where the line joins the housing unit, then with your other hand pull the line away and the line comes out. This worked for both water lines. Thank you for this video!
Wish I would have read your comments before I started. My story mimics yours; no locking rings and I couldn't figure out how to release the tubes. Finally used the small wrenches and depressed the gray rings and the tubes came out. I didn't unhook anything in the back of the unit.
Hi, I had the exact same problem. I was looking for the locking clips on the water line inlet tubes.. I wish I had read your note to press the locking rings. Unfortunately, I pried the ring on the smaller tube with a screwdriver ands broke part of the ring which was in the housing. After I pushed the ring then pulled on the tube did the water line come out easily. I put it all together and did not see any water from the filter or housing. knock on wood. I will go to a plumbers shop to buy another locking ring to have on hand in case I have to take it all a part to put a new locking ring on the small water inlet tube. Another cheap design is using the free standing styrofoam . then having to fit the filter housing over that bridge before you screw the bracket back on the frame. hope I don't have to deal with that again !
Thank you Repair Clinic for sharing this video with all of us DIY'ers, This just saved me and my family over $1300.00 for buying a new refridge!! I am a 58 yr old female that loves to fix things, and this video made it so incredibly easy. It took me about 15-20 min. total with my husband and son watching in amazement .... haha. When I was trying to replace the water filter, I popped the door off and then couldn’t figure out how to re-assemble it. This video showed me how the spring, snap-in pivots on the door, and the white guide piece fit together, at about 4:30. Fixed it in a few minutes. THANKS!
Thank you for this video. It showed me how the flapper door to the water filter port needed to be configured, since the door had come off and I had to reattach it. Greatly appreciate it!!!

I appreciate the up close detail. Our housing door came off the hinges and I did not want to take it all apart at this time to replace the housing (still thinking I can fix door) but could not figure out how to get the filter out without the door-can use screwdriver on left side where white flange is and scoot it out.. YEAH replaced.. THANK YOU!! From a fix it Diva.
A have a door but it is missing the white flange so the filter is stuck and doesn't eject when the door is opened. What's the easiest way to remove filter?
I used a narrow screwdriver and pressed along side of the filter closest to where the flange should be. Reach back and pull forward while GENTLY pressing on the filter. Mine came out rather easily. The flange connects to a ridge on the filter and the “pulls” it out. Same process just using a screwdriver.

I replaced the housing just fine as in the video, but the new unit still has a slight leak. I pushed in both lines all the way and pulled to check them. Have I missed something? Can the lines get scratched enough to leak?
Thanks for the video. I tried to find the two different sized locking rings, but so far no luck. I need them since I can see that there is a slight leak coming from where the water tubes connect to the water filter housing. Thank you in advance.

Question: Is it typical for the door to lose tension and not push the filter in hard enough? I found that if I push the filter door in the water will dispense. Sometimes the door just pops open.
this is the question I wanted to ask. my issue seems like it would be a Water Filter Housing issue, but I still hear the water running when I put pressure on the filter door. Then again, I also notice water spilling out of the housing part when I check on the filter again...
Why are the two water lines not pulling out as easy as it is shown is this video? This is the housing and I've done exactly what you show in the video and i cant get the two lines out of the housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My fridge won't dispense water if the filter is on. I installed a new filter and still same problem. I bypassed the filter assembly with a hose the water started to dispense again. So seems like the housing I bad.
Hi, how do I know that the housing is the problem.?? I can flow water without the filter but once I installed the filter the water flow stops. Does that means the housing needs replacement.?
@@repairclinic I have a similar issue. Without filter or with my old water, the water flows well. However, after I replace a new filter, the water flow is much small (a bit larger at the beginning). I have tried 2 filters so I know it's not the new filter issue. Should I replace the housing? Thanks.
Does this style housing allow for bypass with filter removed? Mine only dispenses water if filter is removed. Tried 3 filters and no water. Bad housing?
Any idea if this was it? I’ve tried two filters and they won’t dispense, if I remove the filter it does bypass and the flow is great just unfiltered. But my housing seems to dribble without a filter which always make me think the housing is bad

Just get a slim screwdriver and pry it on the left side where the white hinge mechanism was on the original door. There is a pressure tab on the right that will depress. Press it right and pry outward and it will come out. I haven't had a filter door on mine for the past 4 years and I have no issues replacing the filter. It seems like a common problem with these doors breaking. Guess that's what you get with these new appliances :(
@@imhooks good advice, but wow I wish you'd do a video on this - I can't quite follow what you mean "pressure tab that will release" I see the presure tab you can push LEFT but it has no effect on my stuck filter. My door is intact, but the filter is stuck.
@@scottatbuzzmaven The filter has a bump out on the left side. When the door is functional there is a lever that pulls on that bump on the filter that prys it out.
