Also running axefx3 via toslink/spidif to my Apollo x daisy, chained racks, also a
Audient ASP880 for adat
I’m pretty surprised by the burr-brown converters in that considering how long they have been making that box,
But like you, I prefer my real amps
Tracking with an OX box is fine, mics are better and the modelers sound fine in the mix but live there is simply no contest
I have a lot of live rigs and other guitars they play with that are using modelers always trying to run stereo with too much verb so they get washed out.
There’s nothing like pushing air through a 4x12 cab.
With a 800, jvm410 or jp2c
Good deal.
The OH cabs sounds more in the room. Settings cab in AXE?
No alteration in the cab block. Just flat.
Thought this debate was over. Why the continued contemplation?
Everything sold but the axe so I threw it back in the rack. Thinking mainly of using it as the second amp on rhythm doubles cuz I can’t record 2 amps at the same time. But not sure. What do you think of the sound of the Axe? I’m thinking maybe dump it and get the Soldano X88IR.
@jameslugo Truth is most of us can get a usable sound on most decent gear but the last 10% of the tone chase will consume 90% of your attention and keep you in a gear frenzy loop. I have found that I do best when spare no expense on an amp or 9 😊 and then I focus of getting to know them VERY well. I have a Two-Rock, a real 60's Fender Blackface Pro, Port City Perl head for cleans and a few custom Egnater MOD50s that Bruce made for me (basically a model Marshall) and I a Synergy rack module paired with a Mesa Simult 295 power that I bought new in the early 90s. As you can see, I'm a 100% tube amp guy but I record with mics on cabs and ox box at the same time. The AXE sounds great for dirty only to my ear but I don't care for how it feels to me while I play it but sounds decent recorded. I guess the right tool for the job. I would say try dropping the gain on the AXE as you can already hear. Love watching your contemplations brother but also want to help you dial your end solution.
I agree, AMPS sound AND FEEL better!
@ that’s it.
@ they do but I just need amps for doubles and I think I can improve what i did today. I didn’t like the Soldano or mk4 preset but the recto and 800 are cool. I need to tame the highs and turn back the gain.
Are you still running the 27” iMac from your 3 year old vid?
Mine is a maxed 2020 intel 5k I bought new that still seems to run fine with current
ProTools, Studio one and Ableton
It’s a 128 gb ram, 3.6 10 core i9, 2 tb ssd although lots of external ssd for sessions and instrument libraries
Working hybrid, lots of old boxes collected since I started in the ‘70 as a
Session, touring and now more in the chair
Just thinking about these M4s
I am.

Cool
I’m hoping to get a few more years out of it until I jump to a silicone
Mac OS is a pita
I couldn’t update some of my vendors like native Instruments without updating my OS now, I have to update everything
Izotope, arturia, waves, Universal Audio ect..
And my key lab 88 decided it wasn’t gonna play nice with ProTools HUI since the most recent ProTools update
So dealing with that BS today
Dude stop kidding yourself, you know you're not going to stop thinking about an X88IR until you get one. Just like you couldn't shake that jones for that triple rec you just bought. Once you get a hankering for something, resistance is futile.
@@bradleywood1499 it’s weird. Truth is I’ve never dug Soldano. I think I’m gonna work on getting a few amps in Axe where they need to be and call it a day.
@@jameslugo I think that's a solid plan. The Fractals are just so damn close to the real thing, it's hard to justify not just going that route for situations like this. FM9 or PodGo is all I do for live shows or jam sessions now. The trade off for ease of portability and switching options far outweighs the minor tonal differences of the real amps.
