I think part of why this game failed originally is the name. Post Scriptum doesn't tell anyone what they'll play, Squad 44 at least gives an idea to players.
Even when it was still called Post-Scriptum, this game absolutely DESTROYED Hell Let Loose in terms of quality, content, and realistic authenticity. The problem was that the previous owners of it pulled the plug. Now that Offworld has it, it overjoys me that they're continuing development of it again. This game is hella underrated and deserves more attention. It's the Best World War 2 Game I've ever played since Red Orchestra 1, and that's saying a lot.
Yeah him calling it “the HLL we have at home” was not the way it was received. From the beginning, the gunplay, sounds, particle effects, and especially tank combat (even before this update) was worlds above HLL in quality

The scope of now squad 44 is so much bigger than hell let loose, the sand box is absolutly huge, the maps are 10x more interesting, no invisible walls, you can build actual defenses (88mm, 20mm, mgs nest...), vehicule gameplay and combat is centuries ahead, even the physics, ragdolls and dismemberment are lightyears ahead and I'm not even talking about gunplay and gun features, hell let loose is stuck in CoD2 era. the only thing holding back postcriptum was bcs it was not noob friendly. So yes, HLL is the post scriptum we have at home and its not even close to ever change.

HLL feels like it’s been in a continuous, downhill spiral ever since Team 17 took over for Black Matter. Quick money grab DLC's, and bare minimum-effort updates riddled with rampant bugs (which are seldom addressed afterward) have sadly become the only thing the tone deaf developers are capable of producing these days. Happy to see Squad 44 gain more traction! Can’t wait to see what’s in store.

The lack of marketing played a massive role in this game's overall player numbers which was a great shame. But I think this game has the potential to be amazing with its new handlers
Hell Let Loose IS the Post Scriptum/Squad 44 at home. Games will lose people when the devs don't update, but PS/SQ44 was always a higher quality/more detailed game.

I know right, its apparent he's a regular arcade enjoyer, nothing wrong with that. but this feature is much better to have then otherwise, both in terms of hameplay and immersion.
I agree, I have had some time in HLL but am finding gun play more enjoyable in Squad44 so far. The fact that I was always squinting at pixels in HLL was annoying, for longer shots. I love that there is the slight zoom option for iron sights in Squad 44. Makes longer distance shooting more doable for me. Loving this game so far.

Ok, I know this is just me being a milsurp nerd, and I'm not trying to complain or nitpick here...but the Garand carried in the video is produced by springfield armory and has a serial number in the 3.5 million range, which puts it's production in February of 1945, long after D-day and likely many of the other battles depicted...just an observation.
@@enterprise9001 the vast majority of people would never notice, the only difference is a darker gray finish, and the higher serial number. ultimately I think both studios simply scanned and copied whatever rifle they got their hands on.
I think hell let loose manage to hold so many players because it’s simple they didn’t over complicate it like squad does . I think they should make a modern shorter with that logic in mind

No it's not, HLL is much worth it. Easier to learn and more stable. Even then, I rather buy something cheaper like Easy Red 2 which covers more theatre and provides offline campaign with active developers listening via their official discord server
If you like WW2 shooters with a touch of hardcore style that focus on authenticity and historical accuracy, I can recommend Forgotten Hope 2. This was a mod for BF2 back then, but has been a standalone for a few years now, similar to PR. This mod has been getting free updates for 16 years, even though the player base isn't huge. In the evenings at European time, the servers are always full on the weekend. A video from you would definitely be cool :)

I've been playing the darkest hour on my potato laptop. It's great! They're still patching it and adding new content and it's amod for RO 1. Y'all should check it out if you're curious. The team work is awesome. Without it you die and lose quick.
The thing about getting into vehicle by looking at spot mostly works and is needed in this game. Otherwise you would just hop up behind tank and repair and be immune behind the tank where you could also hop back inside. Now it takes little effort
I think some of your complaints are not warranted, it’s got a few bugs but they happen so rarely that it’s almost negligible. Plus the vaulting, you only have to press the space bar one more time if you don’t get it the first time. I also don’t know if you reviewed it after the hotfix but the stuttering and a number of bugs were fixed a few days later. OWI are hot on top of this game now which you failed to mention so it’s only up from here. Also more weapon verity? It’s got every weapon used by each side included that’s historically accurate? Far more so than in hell let loose
Trying to find the better game really depends on what either game is trying to replicate, and how you want to play each game. The HLL team was very adamant that they were attempting to make a successor to RO2/RS1 with the same realistic feel and arcade-ish gameplay style of RO2/RS1, with them getting rid of the forced lane style on some of the RO2 maps, and upgrading physics, graphics and servers to a modern standard. The Post Scriptum team was mainly focusing about bringing the Squad style of gameplay to a WW2 setting, being slower movement, focusing on teamwork and communication to move around the map faster, and having more freedom of movement around the map. There is also an Eastern Front mod in development which has a lot of potential if completed in a reasonable amount of time. Trying to compare these two games is like comparing Apples to Pears. On the outside, they're both the same colour. But on the inside, they taste completely different. There has been a couple of Post Scriptum/Squad44 free weekend in the past, I do hope they do one within the Summer Sale period. I thoroughly recommend to give both games a try.

Squad44 will 100% make a comeback and eventually surpass HLL for 2 reasons. 1. Squad's last update was game changing and brought the game to a new modern standard. It's better than it's ever been. With that kind of experience behind Squad 44, it's only a matter of time until they execute those same ideas for the game. 2. HLL has fallen off a cliff after the acquisition; not necessarily in terms of player count, but player sentiment. HLL is by no means dead, but it's not doing itself any favors.
@@titan_tanker Its not so much about the playercount for Squad as it is about galvanizing it's userbase. There is zero competition for Squad. It doesn't exist (some argue Sandstorm, but they play completely differently). Squad 44 and HLL on the other hand are two games with a LOT of friction between both player bases because both games have severe issues. Squad44 went on the backburner for a bit so Squad could get improved. Squad, for all intents and purposes as a sim-lite, is now basically perfect. For those involved with HLL, it feels like a dumpster fire to play, but it's in a better state than Squad44. If Squad quality updates come to 44, it will just galvanize it's playerbase and eventually pull from HLL.
@titan_tanker I'm willing to say that it is hopeful, but circumstances point to it happening. Team17, for whatever reason, cannot and will not pull their heads from their asses. Additionally, people love Squad mechanics, but since Squad 44 is underbaked right now, they're favoring HLL which is missing a lot of those features players are looking for. If my scenario were to happen, it wouldn't be soon, but probably within the next 18 to 24 months. I'd bet on parity of player count being atleast even prior to an overtake.

I play think way back when it was post scriptum and it was a blast. Then HLL came and I have played that for years now. But yesterday, I bought squad44 to a friend and we went in, and wow. Squad44 sound, gunplay and feel, the invasion mode. It just feels more to me. I hope the playerbase grows, because it deserve it

A dead game is one that you literally cannot even play and is no longer supported. It WAS a dead game when they had 100 people on average. Beyond The Wire is a dead game. Saying this is a dead game is really just an admission of your stupidity at this point.
As to the performance, I've read many players saying that it's been pretty normal for the game to suffer performance loss after most major updates, and that the game was in a significantly more optimized place before the latest update. The devs are aware of this issue and are rolling out hotfixes.

I Think the problem with people trying to compare HLL and squad 44 is they are all really biased from both sides. HLL players play squad 44 like they play HLL and gets mad when that doesn’t work, and when squad 44 players play HLL like squad 44 and that doesn’t work they also get pissed. It’s two very different games people. Want a semi realisme game that looks and runs great, play HLL. Want a game with a Big map and alot of realisme play Squad 44
Yes because ultimately everything is about player numbers... HLL became casual years ago thus it appeals to a wider audience. PS has a steep learning curve and is punishing. It'll always be more niche and that's fine. We aren't looking for the mass appeal of a WW2 Fortnite. Save that for the mass casuals. I personally would take a Post Scriptum that is even more realistic than the current one but that would probably be too niche.

My 44 experience today, having just installed it. 7/16/2024 1: only 5 active servers, the rest are 5/80 - 0/80. 2: 15-20 minute waits to get into any active server. 3: You have to manually go into the file directory and install anti-cheat after installing the game through steam, or whatever server you join will auto crash your game. Learned that after 60 minutes playing the game... with 45minutes of that being loading screens or queue time. 4: It still reports to UE4 PostScriptum when the lack of an anti cheat ((Which you have to manually install even after getting the game through steam)) kicks you out of a server and doesnt tell you why. Even the game files themselves still register as Postscriptum. AKA OWI was too lazy after buying the damn game to go through and change the source code. .... Yeah its makin a stellar ass comeback.

I'm tried enjoying it but had to many errors with keybinds not switching weired frame rate issues and the movement is not smooth. Still not enough players playing so a long wait time to join a game.

The game was running really good before the most recent update. I was getting 100fps on max settings with a 4080, now I get around 60-45, hope they fix it soon

Every time they release a huge update of this game, it is mired by debilitating bugs, repeating mg sounds, sever browser totally busted, vehicle bugs etc etc etc, like they have these big beautiful tanks and all this and that and it's like they didn't playtest it. I'll get my friends to hop on for a match before something happens that just makes you want to close the game.
I just don't see why this has to be a standalone game, why can't it just be part of Squad? The only thing that seems diferent is some UI elements and 3D models.

I've been playing the darkest hour on my potato laptop. It's great! They're still patching it and adding new content and it's amod for RO 1. Y'all should check it out if you're curious. The team work is awesome. Without it you die and lose quick.

Hell Let Loose is a blurry, arcadey mess.
The thing about getting into vehicle by looking at spot mostly works and is needed in this game. Otherwise you would just hop up behind tank and repair and be immune behind the tank where you could also hop back inside. Now it takes little effort
I think some of your complaints are not warranted, it’s got a few bugs but they happen so rarely that it’s almost negligible. Plus the vaulting, you only have to press the space bar one more time if you don’t get it the first time. I also don’t know if you reviewed it after the hotfix but the stuttering and a number of bugs were fixed a few days later. OWI are hot on top of this game now which you failed to mention so it’s only up from here. Also more weapon verity? It’s got every weapon used by each side included that’s historically accurate? Far more so than in hell let loose
Trying to find the better game really depends on what either game is trying to replicate, and how you want to play each game.
The HLL team was very adamant that they were attempting to make a successor to RO2/RS1 with the same realistic feel and arcade-ish gameplay style of RO2/RS1, with them getting rid of the forced lane style on some of the RO2 maps, and upgrading physics, graphics and servers to a modern standard.
The Post Scriptum team was mainly focusing about bringing the Squad style of gameplay to a WW2 setting, being slower movement, focusing on teamwork and communication to move around the map faster, and having more freedom of movement around the map. There is also an Eastern Front mod in development which has a lot of potential if completed in a reasonable amount of time.
Trying to compare these two games is like comparing Apples to Pears. On the outside, they're both the same colour. But on the inside, they taste completely different. There has been a couple of Post Scriptum/Squad44 free weekend in the past, I do hope they do one within the Summer Sale period. I thoroughly recommend to give both games a try.
RO2 was easier to get into and it wasn't a walking simulator like HLL

HLL team already fucked it up after kickstarter, people helped finance game they told then make it something else. Its OK game but still cant trust those devs
Squad44 will 100% make a comeback and eventually surpass HLL for 2 reasons.
1. Squad's last update was game changing and brought the game to a new modern standard. It's better than it's ever been. With that kind of experience behind Squad 44, it's only a matter of time until they execute those same ideas for the game.
2. HLL has fallen off a cliff after the acquisition; not necessarily in terms of player count, but player sentiment. HLL is by no means dead, but it's not doing itself any favors.
Still, the last update hardly increase their player counts with only two active servers and 500 players while HLL still have 7.000 within 24-hrs peak
@@titan_tanker Its not so much about the playercount for Squad as it is about galvanizing it's userbase. There is zero competition for Squad. It doesn't exist (some argue Sandstorm, but they play completely differently).
Squad 44 and HLL on the other hand are two games with a LOT of friction between both player bases because both games have severe issues. Squad44 went on the backburner for a bit so Squad could get improved. Squad, for all intents and purposes as a sim-lite, is now basically perfect.
For those involved with HLL, it feels like a dumpster fire to play, but it's in a better state than Squad44. If Squad quality updates come to 44, it will just galvanize it's playerbase and eventually pull from HLL.

@titan_tanker I'm willing to say that it is hopeful, but circumstances point to it happening. Team17, for whatever reason, cannot and will not pull their heads from their asses.
Additionally, people love Squad mechanics, but since Squad 44 is underbaked right now, they're favoring HLL which is missing a lot of those features players are looking for.
If my scenario were to happen, it wouldn't be soon, but probably within the next 18 to 24 months. I'd bet on parity of player count being atleast even prior to an overtake.

I play think way back when it was post scriptum and it was a blast. Then HLL came and I have played that for years now. But yesterday, I bought squad44 to a friend and we went in, and wow. Squad44 sound, gunplay and feel, the invasion mode. It just feels more to me. I hope the playerbase grows, because it deserve it

@@akooma3694 It's not like you're sitting there thinking "ooooh what server will I play on today??" You're simply trying to find a server to play on. Definitely not difficult if you're European. A dead game is one that you literally cannot even play and is no longer supported. It WAS a dead game when they had 100 people on average. Beyond The Wire is a dead game. Saying this is a dead game is really just an admission of your stupidity at this point.
As to the performance, I've read many players saying that it's been pretty normal for the game to suffer performance loss after most major updates, and that the game was in a significantly more optimized place before the latest update. The devs are aware of this issue and are rolling out hotfixes.
Squad devs will save this game its much better than HLL in almost every way

I Think the problem with people trying to compare HLL and squad 44 is they are all really biased from both sides. HLL players play squad 44 like they play HLL and gets mad when that doesn’t work, and when squad 44 players play HLL like squad 44 and that doesn’t work they also get pissed. It’s two very different games people. Want a semi realisme game that looks and runs great, play HLL. Want a game with a Big map and alot of realisme play Squad 44

Yes because ultimately everything is about player numbers... HLL became casual years ago thus it appeals to a wider audience.
PS has a steep learning curve and is punishing. It'll always be more niche and that's fine. We aren't looking for the mass appeal of a WW2 Fortnite. Save that for the mass casuals. I personally would take a Post Scriptum that is even more realistic than the current one but that would probably be too niche.

My 44 experience today, having just installed it. 7/16/2024
1: only 5 active servers, the rest are 5/80 - 0/80.
2: 15-20 minute waits to get into any active server.
3: You have to manually go into the file directory and install anti-cheat after installing the game through steam, or whatever server you join will auto crash your game. Learned that after 60 minutes playing the game... with 45minutes of that being loading screens or queue time.
4: It still reports to UE4 PostScriptum when the lack of an anti cheat ((Which you have to manually install even after getting the game through steam)) kicks you out of a server and doesnt tell you why. Even the game files themselves still register as Postscriptum. AKA OWI was too lazy after buying the damn game to go through and change the source code.

Yeah S44 has been known to have performance issues, something that these folks would ignore when promoting the game lol
I'm tried enjoying it but had to many errors with keybinds not switching weired frame rate issues and the movement is not smooth. Still not enough players playing so a long wait time to join a game.
Bugs and all, the game is quite enjoyable and always has 2-4 full servers. The only pain I’ve had is the the recent fps issues from the recent updates
There’s at least 5 servers full every day, so there’s plenty of players playing. Never fail to get into a full match in very little time

You have a bottleneck somewhere. I run almost all settings on epic with a 3070 and getting 80-90

Every time they release a huge update of this game, it is mired by debilitating bugs, repeating mg sounds, sever browser totally busted, vehicle bugs etc etc etc, like they have these big beautiful tanks and all this and that and it's like they didn't playtest it. I'll get my friends to hop on for a match before something happens that just makes you want to close the game.

Game is just to blurry. The anti aliasing options are terrible and they don't have FSR as a substitute. Only dlss and some other crap that is terrible.
You must be having eye issues then, play on a 1080P on DLAA (best choice for DLSS option) or I play on DLSS quality option(NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL, APART FROM A BIT OF GHOSTING)....I suggest you post this "oh so blurryness you speak of or I wont bieve you(I play with the "crappy DLSS options" and its clear, the image gorgeous. Only have 1080p monitor IPS qnd 144hz
