Oh my goodness!!! I cross stitched for 15 years started in 1982 but haven't done it for years. I was excited to see it's back and popular again . What would have taken me a year to stich you girls were getting done in a very short amount of time. I knew you all have busy families, you sew it!!! That's very cool I've never seen that before. Excellent tutorial as always Erica. Thank you 💗
Ok, so the loop method has me getting my cross-stitching out. 😂 I totally learn something new today. I have been cross-stitching for many many years. I have never seen this method. Very excited to try this out. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Erica. I haven’t done hand stitching in a long time, so decided to watch some videos first. This series so far has been excellent. Thank you so much for doing these tutorials. This was very informative and I feel confident in starting my project. ❤❤
Hi Erica - I have been cross stitching for many years, however, I didn't know about the sew way rather than up and down - how much faster is that. Thank you so very much for a great video - you always have good close up frames of your work, and explain very well. Thanks for all your hardwork and for sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to the next video. I am also enjoying stitching your monthly cross stitch projects. Linda x
Ok seriously this is the best video I have watched on you tube. Very clear and concise. I purchased the ornaments for both cross stitch and piecing. Great Christmas nails too!! Once again you have knocked it out of the park
I have been cross stitching for years and always did the stab and poke method. Thank you so very much for showing us different ways to do this. Going to get my UFO’s out and finish them. 🙂
I find it interesting how things have changed since I took classes at the needlework store over 30 years ago and now. Much more relaxed and acceptable techniques.
Amazing. I have tried to cross stitch off and on since I was a kid. I always give up. Watching this I see so many things that will help! Maybe now I can actually finish something. I have a small chest full of floss and patterns...😒
Thanks so much Erica! I had to make it right away. It’s so stinkin cute. You inspired me to get back into cross stitching. I got your ornament ones and they are adorable. Love watching your tutorials. 💞
Wonderful tutorial ❤ Thank you so much for your clear instructions. I want to cross stich but had no idea where to start. I feel confident after watching your video that I can now attempt cross stich. Thank you for sharing Erica 😊
I love how informative you are. I've cross stitched for years and thought I knew a lot, but you taught me so much. Thank you for another wonderful video.
Hi. Even though I have been stitching 40 plus yrs, I love to watch what everyone else's preferences are. Thanks for the tip abt the finger tip things. I use the stab method and my bottom finger has a good sized hole in it.,winter time, flaky skin. Thanks for taking the time to film.
Thank you so much for this video! You are a wonderful teacher! I started to cross stitch a couple months ago and this video answered so many questions I had. Please make more videos, I promise to watch them! :)
Great video! I’m just starting with cross stitch!! Unfortunately I got lots of advertisements that popped up during the important parts but thank goodness for the rewind function… lol. Thanks so much for sharing all your tips.
Ok I knew if I watched this I would be starting a new craft - Yikes - LOL As always a fun watch and I thought you really covered a great amount of details that a beginner (like myself) would need. Awesome - thanks Erica
Wonderful instructions and tips, I can’t believe how fast you do everything. I don’t really cross stitch but do love embroidery and these tips are great for that also. With your great instructions I am tempted to try some cross stitch though, 😁 Thanks for all you do. 👍
I was always afraid to try cross stitching because it looked too difficult to me. However after watching your tutorial video I’m ready to give it a try. Thank you
Hi Erica - I did a lot of cross stitching back in the 80s. Of course there was no you tube and not a lot of fabrics to stitch on. Your tutorial is fabulous for a beginner. Wish there had been something this great back then. I love your patterns. They are so pretty. I really don’t know how you find the time for all the fun things you create. Great job! PS - I’m gonna try the sew method. Never heard of it back then. Seems a lot easier but will take some practice to do it. ❤️🧵😍🎄⛄️🎅
Erica! I had never heard of the loop method! I have been using the Bury the Stitch 2 and it’s so frustrating. I had no idea the loop was a thing! Thank you!! My stitching will be amazing!!!
Excellent tutorial! I loved Part 1 also! I have already printed out the Joy ornament and digging out my DMC floss! Thanks Erica for such clear step by step instructions it is much appreciated !
Really good tutorial Erica! Lots of tips and tricks. You covered alot and many things I was wondering about. I am gearing myself up for trying some cross stitch, so thank you. 😊
You’ve done it again! You are a fantastic teacher. I only started Cross stitch a year ago( thanks Kimberley and FQS) but there were quite a few tips today to make everything easier.. particularly burying your thread when you cant use the loop method. I will be doing the Stitchy ornaments with you next week.
Okay, wow lol. That was fast so I’ll watch again. Cross stitching is fun I really like it. I’m on my first one....oh boy now what I’ve been doing Erica is making the complete cross stitch and going to the next block if that makes sense, according to what I think I saw was you have to go back in one instead of not using that same box again. I hope that makes sense ugh. Gotta watch again. Tfs good job
I'm not at all crafty, I finish my ornaments similar to what you are showing, however I have an adhesive felt sheet that I ordered off Amazon and I cut it to size; I then stick it to the back of the hoop, it hides the back of the stitching and just makes it look a bit nicer if the ornament flips around. I bought your ornaments and am enjoying stitching them; I've got 5 done so far :)
I'm an experienced self taught stitcher but you mentioned 28 CT and stitching over 2. What you someone what to use 28ct over 2? What are the benefits or results? How do they differ from 14ct over 1?
I do the stitch patterns of my life started on cross stitch pattern on age 30 and I use hoops and I stitch my cross stitch patterns in with music and it's the same as you show me the video🎥 but I don't know how to make a fast way to make it work fast than the slow down method
I’ve never seen method #1 and can’t wait to try it. Method #3 is supposed to have the tail in the front of the cross stitch with a knot, then after about 3 stitches you trim the knot. That’s the method I use that I saw on a DMC RUclips video years ago.
Just found this video & love this little design. Tried to download the PDF but it didn't work😔 I've crossed stitched for years & don't remember learning which end to pull thread from, your way of threading needle & using the loop to secure it! I learned xxstitch using inexpensive little kits from Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. TY for sharing your skill & technique🎈🎈🎈
Erica can you use the loop method every time you start a new color? I love the sewing method it is much easier than stitching from front and turning to the back. The closeups are very helpful and easy to see but toward the end of the video its to fast it would be great if you could slow down the stitching because I get dizzy.
I do because I prefer it, but sometimes if have a small piece of thread I want to use I'll do it the 2nd way and bury it. I try to avoid the third way because it's just a pain :) I'll keep the slow down in mind for future videos, I figured you all might be bored watching me stitch LOL!
Hi Erica, I can't get the free Joy pattern download? Can you help please? Just love these ornaments they so cute and thanks for explaining and showing the stitches. Want to try it.... Greetings from South Africa!
Great tutorial Erica. Thank you for the free Joy ornament pattern. What size did you cut your Aida cloth for this design? I’ve been cross stitching for years and only in the past few years learned the loop method. So much easier. I have yet to master sewing in hand. Maybe one of these days. See you next time.
I said I had enough hobbies. I don’t need anymore hobbies. Then I watched your video talking about the 12 stitchy ornaments… And you made them so pretty… And you made it look so easy… And I had to buy your pattern… And I had to run to Michael’s and buy everything to make them… 😂😂😂
Love your videos - thank you so much - this may seem like a simple question, but I tend to sewing my X from left top to right bottom because I am left handed. Is that ok as long as they are all the same direction?
Thanks Erica for the free pattern and the detailed instructions. One question...what size did you cut your fabric for the ornaments? I usually add 2 inches around the width and height of the stitch count. Thanks again.

I cut mine 5" x 5" but it kind of just depends on how you want to finish it. I'm sure 4" is fine if you're using a 3" hoop. I just like to play it safe :)
I just leave a few inches through my needle so I don't pull it out on accident, but not so long that I accidentally stitch four layers of thread instead of two!
Erica, like so many others commenting I had never seen the loop method or the sewing method. How does that happen?🤷♀️One common issue you did not cover was the direction you sew to avoid entering a hole from which you just exited on the preceding row. Do you have a technique you keep in mind?
Oh yes, good point, I just go in however I can to keep my stitches going the correct way. So sometimes I go from top right to bottom left for that first leg rather than bottom left to top right. Hope that makes sense! :)
As a cross stitching noob, I have a question concerning the pattern. Why aren't the center lines on the border lines for the 10x10s? I just finished my first piece & when I started it, I'd used a water soluble marker to make the grids then centered it into my hoop. Then I discovered the center wasn't actually centered with the grids. Does that make sense? I ended up using a marker on the pattern itself to make it so the center lines were actually centered. I'm confused why that's just not already done... ? If anyone has any input on that, I'd appreciate it!
Hi Amy, I wanted to center it on a 3" square, which meant 42" stitches h x w, so the center lines were off just a bit. But I wanted to make sure people had enough fabric for it to fit on a 3" embroidery hoop. Hope that makes sense :)
@@erica_arndt Thanks for the response, Erica! I think more experience & maybe watching people create their designs might help me, too. Appreciate you taking a moment for me!
Really appreciate this series
Thank you so much! I was struggling trying to find a video where someone truly explained the whole process of cross-stitching. You are the best!
Loop Method!!! Mind blown! The back will be so much neater!!
A Masterclass for beginners: you are such a good teacher! Thank you!
You make me want to cross stitch again!! I haven’t in years. Thank you!
This is the best cross stitch tutorial on youtube. Thank you Erica ❤️
I’ve been cross stitching for years. ( self taught.) I have never saw the stitching method. I absolutely love it! Thank you so much! 😊

The loop method to begin your stitching is genius! I’ve been doing cross stitch for years and have never seen it!
I prefer the loop to hold the needle, never lose the needle or pull thread out. 🇨🇦
