A constructive comment! If you would of attacked it so to say, you would of pissed it so easy. Its not a touring back road? Nail it, your body position was good. Just be more confident next time and you will greatly improve. One last tip, as mentioned your standing position was great, loosen up a little. Look way forward not at where the front wheel is going! Nice video thank you for sharing.
Gotta rev it a little more. Slip the clutch and more gas as it bogs. It helps to drop a tooth on the front sprocket (or go up on the rear a couple). I did that on mine. Make sure TC is off, too. That's a must for climbing in loose stuff.
Great videos. Camaras never show just how steep hills are. I fitted shorter/adjustable brake and clutch levers to my Vee, gives better control especially when standing. Also wider off road foot pegs make a hugh differance.
Last week I went on a ride with a buddy on my 650 vstrom, in some very inadequate conditions. The road being an agricultural one half dry, half with muddy tractor trenches and the inadequacy being that I had Anakee 3 tires (95% road oriented) and zero to none off-roading experience. It was terrifying, yet oddly intriguing, even though I was screaming inside my helmet "why the hell am I doing this?" and I dropped my bike at least 4-5 times, I still pushed forward. Watching your videos, I can tell you have a great deal of experience on and off the road, but you also willingly put yourself in nerve racking situations like attempting to climb a very steep hill on a big heavy bike. So, I need to ask you,.. why do you think we get ourselves in such situations?
Good question, but I don't know the answer. Some call me attention whore, others think that I'm wannabe ADVrider or that I'm silly... Maybe I just want to spice up my daily life?
Is your suspension still stock? Besides a little more speed, maybe tires with bigger lugs, a well set up suspension can make a big traction difference. If the damping is available and set up properly, that rear tire will stay planted on the ground a higher percentage of the time over rocky and rough stuff.
Hi. It is stock suspension. I was playing a little with suspension settings but it is hard to set it optimal for road-offroad using or easy-aggressive riding at same time. In this video I just needed little more speed, turn-off TC and bigger balls.
Okay I see. From what I've heard in podocasts, research, and following a load of motorcycle related feedback across the interwebs, people who want to do a serious trip really need to swap out the OEM rear shock for something much more durable, serviceable, adjustable. The stock units are hugely compromised, can easily overheat, the seals are sad, the shaft is sad, they only last some 3-4 years before the performance is very diminished. Not suggesting you need to do this. Just throwing it out there for whatever it's worth. I personally would reach out to Touratech for their ADV shocks. Superior stuff for loads, thrashing, servicing, adjusting.
What caused you to get stuck actually? Was the hill so steep at that point and/or the path so rugged (rocks etc)? I suppose you had traction control switched off there, so that should not be a problem. Which tyres do you have, offroad or allround? Just asking, because this is very likely going to be my next bike next year :)
I have Karoo 3 tires. The cause of stuck is a combination of all the reasons that you stated. Also TC was not completely switched off (mistake) so I lost a lot of power and speed. And fear is an important factor. Up there, I was very scared and in one moment I just wanted safe return to the valley.
Man, with some of the things you do, I hope either (a) you are indestructible or (b) you have great health insurance!! Turning around on steep slopes is one reason I bought a TW200. At least I have a chance of picking it up. The DL650 would have to lay there awhile. By the way, what is the line of 5 cables?
What kind of tires? I'm assuming the stock Battlewings, right? Those are 90/10 tires. You should get some Shinko 705s or even more aggressive like a Mitas E07.
This peak is called Zvoh. It is the highest peak of Krvavec ski resort in the Slovenian Alps. The high is 2000 meters. You said well: adrenaline level was quite high.
UAU ! That's a very steep hillclimb, but I'm sure the V-Strom can handle without a problem, just turm off the TC and keep more speed/momentum. The best place to speed up to catch the second part (and steepest part) is that long "paved" part where you have good grip.... you should try to reach it and use it as a "trampoline" to rise the speed, you should keep your revs at abt 4000rpm which is the best place for the V-Strom torque. Your body should move forward when you have to change direction (like when you need to avoid a bigger rock) and then more to the center to give more traction. You did very well when you managed to go back and turn the bike, but you did wrong when you tried to go down with the engine off to use it as a brake. On a rear wheel drive when the wheel is locking (due to an excess of negative torque) you obtain the unwanted (the rear wheel start to slide faster the the front one and you suddenly get sideways with the serious risk to have a highside and a tumble fall) so you have to keep your engine on. If the rear wheel starts to drag and slide for the excess of torque then you can partially pull your clutch to reduce the torque or give a bit of throttle, but the clutch is easier to operate as the fingers are not affected by the bumps like the wrist is. The speed will be higher but you dont' have to fear for that you will reduce it when you reach a less steep point, just keep the weight on the back wheel.
Thanks. You re right about everything and I know that V-Strom can handle this. But I didn't dare to go faster at paved part because I was scared to rotate on my back - it was steeper then gravel part and I was more uncomfortable on paved part than on gravel. Also I didn't know how deep is the gravel after the paved part.
That's such an easy climb! You just need to stop plodding along and go for it. TC off, raise the speed and stand up and forward. Let it spin up you'll keep going, the bike is perfectly capable.
Wrong gear! Keep it in the highest torque band which is about 4k for that bike. So probably first gear and keep your speed and therefor centrifugal force high. And going down hill use that engine and slipper clutch. Good job though. Fun to watch.
Please rev that engine !

Thanks for advice. You are right, I should've taken it more aggressive.

same happen for me :) when you love bike to much and just think how not fall down :)
That's crazy steep! Helluva job with that tall gearing! Great job turning it back around without dumping it!
Yikes ! Great , patient job getting her back down man ! That could have been a mess . Good job .
I imagine how scary it was when you stuck there and you need to turn around a 250kg bike.
Great job getting a 650# bike down the hill. Are you still shaking?

LOL that was entertaining to watch! GJ MATE

Very good answer and very good videos.

Zlatko Djukic wannabe?? I think not. You are an adv rider
That's pretty cool you've made it up that far,it is a 1000cc beast

It's a cable fence. Protection for skiers cows and crazy bikers against falling in to the canyon on the other side of the fence ;)
Wau, res svaka cast, da si upas v tako strmino s tok tezkim motorjem! :)

Never mind. I just watched more of your videos and it looks like you have an aggressive tire. Was that a Heidenau?
These are the Metzeler Karoo 3 Tires
Zlatko Djukic nice. Love the videos
when in doubt just flat out...you need to drive more aggresive and you will succed
Whouaaa... your adrenaline must have been so high!!! I am sure next time you will succeed. BTW, where did you take this video?

whoa!!!! I think the grass is better than the gravel!!!! maybe you can try to pass on the left :) Great job however!!!
Wow! Did you somehow disable ABS?
No ABS was not disabled.
U kojoj brzini si bio. Izgleda drugoj? Drugi puta u prvu i samo po gasu i nece bit frke.

Oh..my god..
Devil on your shoulder. moment..
awesome!
is that one of those chinese x grip phone holders? they're good aren't they:)
They are good if the phone is in a vertical position.
In the horizontal position on a bumpy road, my phone fell out twice
Well personally I run it in vertical and it has been fine so far. I guess you might have the same problem with RAM mounts anyway.
todo iba muy bien pero parece que estabas subiendo en 2da o no se parecia muy baja de rpm falto mas gas
⛰⛰Bellissimo video🏍💨 🌞🌡
Thanks!
OMG! OMG! OMG!
Sorry i don't mean to sound like an expert but I've done tougher rides with a women on the back of a 700 pound 1984 Gold Wing.

Ummm no you have not good sir. Perhaps the camera is not revealing to you how steep this hill actually is.
This may be so I can only relate to my perspective of the video and in reality the hill is much steeper I know my testicles aren't that big anyway.
