- Dealing with stencils is always tricky, because they have to be aligned perfectly to get great soldering results. So far, I was always using these stencils with spare PCBs around the project PCB which are fixed in position with tape. As I am using these stencils quite often in the last time I was thinking about creating a simple jig for it - and here it is. The Stencil-Jig is a simple DIY machine for PCB stenciling built with the Openbuilds V-slot system.
The stencils can be clamped into the Stencil-Jig with the inner V-slot extrusions and the corresponding aluminum rods. With all the adjustment screws on the sides and the front, the PCB and the stencil can be aligned easily to match each other.

I built something almost like that, but in my case it's a support that holds big boards during maintenance.
That's my biggest helper in the shop.
OK, so that was really cool! However, I was really skeptical throughout the build that it wasn't going to be rigid enough. So glad to be wrong. I like the design. Well done.
I understand your doubts, especially for the upper part of this jig. Nevertheless the alignment guides on both sides doing a great job with holding the complete upper part in place and the 10mm steel rods are definitely strong enough. However, the jig is not yet perfect. There are a few things which I have listed as todos on my github page. The PCB alignment stuff has to be reworked and the stencil springs are not strong enough (you can see it in the second example, the stencil is still bending…). Thank you for your feedback! 👌🏻

Very nice tool, thank you for sharing it!. Do you have plans of uploading the CAD files in Github?. As an open-source project it would be easier to follow the instructions (and to improve it). For instance, what is the size of the springs?
This is really well made, looks like the steel plate and the aluminum bars would be the hardest parts to kit, everything is cake

I like it a lot...but it's a ton of work to replace masking tape. Wow!
I thought it as well but luckily it isn’t! Replacing the stencil can be done in under two minutes. Though the PCB-Stencil alignment will take a few minutes 😁 But still worth it

I wonder if the process of alignment of the stencil can be done quicker.
Maybe like a beefy spring clamp of something in one of the sides? or strong magnets?
Even so, I'd pay a pretty penny for this kit, as is.

Not OP but I'd recommend either PLA or PETG printed at 0.25 or 0.2 with 3 walls and 20% infill. Should be totally fine for this application.

Really cool project! How does the red aliggnment knob on the end that aligns the stencil clamp not just back itself out when turned anti-clockwise? I thought it would need a retainer, maybe a U shaped 3D printed part that bolt on afterwards and stops it moving back out

How to create the stencil?
PCB manufacturing houses (cheap hobby ones include JLCPCB, PCBway, etc) cut them based on the PCB files you provide, it's largely an automated process once you've already designed the PCB I think
