- Meet Romeo! He's a very handsome older gentleman who came to us to learn to drive - a new lease of life for him and his owners as he begins what may be described as his 'golden years'.
However, can you teach an old dog new tricks? And if you can, what are the considerations that need to be made?
Watch to find out whether Romeo makes it as a driving pony!

We are so proud of our Big Boy and what he achieved. We can't thank you, Barry and Rhi, for rescueing us from the horrid prospect of having to sell Romeo. He has come home with a gentle, sensible head, and we are excited to trot on into our new adventure. Your skills, kindness, and care will never be forgotten 😊
@rosiegall1059 Bless you for Caring so deeply about your Lovely boy, Romeo!!
It is Fantastic to know people care enough to adapt instead of sell!!
Hes in Wonderful condition, another sign of owners who care, I used to have a Fell pony, he wasnt as handsome as Romeo, but one of my Best friends and a great Teacher!!
(And, he was handsome in my eyes, Lol!)~ I best stop here, as I do tend to waffle on!!
Kindest Regards from Cumbria, Fell pony country!!
Andrea and Jasper. ....XxX.....
Romeo is proud of you guys for being able to turn life upside down too. 😊🎉
What a lovely horse and a lovely trainer. Enjoy your darling horse. What Barry doesn't know, isn't worth knowing. :-)
What a beautiful pony.
He did well. I smiled when he had one ear on the freeway traffic and the other on the truck on the bridge.
OMGoodness what a brave little horse; where art thou Romeo? Up on a bridge over roaring speedy traffic racing beneath me….. but safe and confident in the loving kind gentle strong hands off Barry Hook, thank God. What a wonderful team working in harmony together on a path to find courage, understanding and peace. Just a joy to observe. Thankyou and bless you both. A grandmother xx
Another great video, Barry. I went under that bridge yesterday and wondered if I might see you and a horse on it, sadly no. Allowing an animal to learn is different to teaching it.
Maybe next time!
What a nice old boy ..and he likes to look in peoples drive..u know see what they got lol.
What a lovely country road ,looks so relaxing going by horse carriage .
Thanks Barry for another great video.
I love his wiggle when he trots!
Romeo is a funny guy! He obviously has a lot of thought going through his lovely head. That’s a pony I’d love to meet. Personality for days.❤️❤️
Barry, that is what makes you an exceptional trainer - you look at things from the horses' perspective and you don't force them to do anything. You allow them to learn without punishment
We all need a change of pace! 😊
What a beautiful day, along a beautiful road.. with the clippy clop of hooves and wise advice. Best day! ❤
Awww best of luck to Romeo 🖤Thank you Barry for being so understanding and patient❣
You get the feel and are in tune with your horses. And once you make that connection you can do anything. It is a great feeling. Lovely middle-aged gentleman, strong as an ox. Likes to ponder upon life while looking up driveways. Thank you for the lovely sunny drive and your patience.
Way to go, Romeo! 🎉
Made it to the end.. wow Romeo is a lovely fella. Well done Romeo! I hope he has a beautiful rest of his life. See you can teach an old horse new tricks❤️
Thank-you for watching all the way through! So many people don't!
@@barryhook2 I watch all the videos to the end because I want to see how the horses and ponies make out, if they’ve accomplished the goal and they do. The videos are always interesting and I thank you for showing us how patience and kindness can change a life.❤️
You r the best
Music to my ears,,, happy hooves and wise words!!
The Lovely Romeo certainly must have Wonderful owners!!
~ Hes in such good condition also!
Thank you so very much for sharing this as always, much appreciated!
Andrea and Jasper. ...XxX....
Thank you for sharing.🐴
I'm sure your voice, steadily droning on (I mean that in a good way!) helps to keep him calm.
You make me want to teach my ranch riding quarter horse into a driving horse haha
Hello! To drive three abreast if I use just standard tool for single horse driving in the middle on standard carriage, together with standard evener for double horses (tandem) driving for horses asides, is it possible?? It seems of course a lit narrow between eveners and even one on top of each other a lit, but with longer tugs it must work?? Please, advise!!! Thanks!
Hi, check our some of our Trandem videos - you should able to see our set up there. We use three swingletrees and two poles to achieve trandem / three abreast.
Them motorists down there are'nt very polite
