Watch all 4 segments, and pay close attention. It will save you a lot of trouble later. I watched them all several times, practically memorizing them before I felt confident to actually go out and start, and I'm so glad I did! I would not have known how to get such great results without these tips!
I've never seen anyone so passionate about home improvements than this guy. 10 out of 10 mah man

The consistency is so important! I found that the ratio that worked best for me was 5 cups of dry grout mix to 1.5 cups water. That let me do about 21-24 square feet of the 12x12 tile floor.
Hello. I just tiled my bathroom floor. It was my first tiling job. I used your grouting videos and they were very helpful.
Thank you for this series of 4 videos. They gave me the confidence to do my job and feel really proud of it.

This guy is like the Bob Ross of home improvement.
Job well done!
Your how-to videos are the best for the do-it-yourself person. Thank you
I've never commented on a RUclips video before and never thought I would. But these 4 grouting videos were just what I needed before tackling my floor and it turned out great!! Just do what he says, especially lightly running the sponge over the grout lines to smooth them out. Thank you Tim!!

Thank You so much.. what a perfect video to watch for beginner like myself... I'm now ready to get grouting thank you for this video...
Tim, I watched this series 8 years ago when I built my addition and tiled my own floor in a 60sf bathroom. Grout joints still are great. Maybe need some cleaner now though! My joints and grout is just a tiny bit better than the upstairs bath I had some pros do! Those pros were also ready to use premixed mastic on wall tiles in my shower...good thing I was there to stop them!
I love how there are multiple steps that could be “your worst nightmare”...!
Keep up the great work!

Never go full bag in!!!!
This vid is the Bob Ross of grout!
Thank you!
Only go full in after you split aces and 8s!!!
What a nice bucket of grout you got there, Tim! Real nice indeed.
Excellent! Thanks, Tim.
The bleach cleaner was the biggest helper here. Hopefully the grouting box will have the instructions of how much water to use. Seeing what it's supposed to look like before one grouts is a nice visual too.
Thanks for the 4 helpful videos !! 👍🏼 I’m starting a tile job in a few days, I’m a beginner and these videos really helped 👏🏼

Great videos, man!

Matt, you can just repair the area. The best way is to carefully chisel the area and make the bottom of the repair area larger than the top. This dovetails in the new grout with the old. Be sure to Subscribe to my channel. Many new videos are about to be uploaded.
Ketchup man, how is it you know exactly how much tile I've installed and grouted? You have powerful skills and magic indeed. Would you like me to tell you stories of "savvy" tile men who've installed tile and grout WRONG for 30 years? Ones that don't do it according to published industry standards? Has your "savvy" tile guy testified in court as an expert witness about tile work? I know I have. Anyway, life is full of decisions. You have to just make sure you make great ones. Good luck!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome. You can reciprocate by clicking the text *THANKS* link under the video.
thanks
You're welcome!

Builder, I have a few spots of sanded grout that have come out...is it necessary to remove all the grout (25 sq feet of tile) or can I just fill in the bad bits? Thanks for your videos and for being so active on the comments section.
@anniemcu As I replied to your other comment, in a week the last two videos in this series will be gone. You're going to have to pay to watch. RUclips promised to make me big money giving this away for free. They lied. I've not made enough money from this tile series to pay for a lunch in three years.
Thank you for the informative videos, I wonder if you might change the title of these Grout videos to add numbers to the sequence, Grouting #1, Grouting #2, and Grouting #3 . . . I watch all of your videos :)
Anne,
Great idea! I'll go do it now. I should have done it years ago.
Thanks ketchup man. All you do is mix it the way I show in the video. It's not hard on the arms, unless you have "girly man" arms as would say Hanz and Franz. :->>>>> The grout mixture you see in this video is very easy to spread.
I mixed mine like ketchup and it worked perfectly. I'd never do two coats of grout maybe you meant the sealer, and luckily for me the water beaded off the grout the first coat of sealer so I didn't have to do a second coat. The grout is pretty damn strong for me...my opinion...mix it like mortar if you want to tear your arms off getting it into all those joints lol.
I have a small ebook guide at my shopping cart that shows you how to get up floor grout.
@caseyr1417 : darker grout will effloresce and lighten if you use too much water in the sponge while cleaning it off.
Thanks for that video! I got a quick question if my grout is dirty and old can I use an angle grinder with metallic brush to clean the between before putting new grout?
You can do whatever you want. Would I do it that way? No.
After I lay the tile, how long should i wait before I grout?
Hi - your videos are helpful.
Whoever, video#3 and #4 are "private" and people cannot view them.
Can you please fix?
Thanks.
very nice (:
the tavvy tile guy says to make it a ketchup consistency, and my arms are weak after spreading 400 sq foot of grout! Mine seems pretty strong is there a way to test the strength? Mine has portland cement in the ingredients maybe that helps.
Tim: The guy that put in my floor tiles did not use sanded grout -- I learned this as it cracked and now I have to take it up. He also left no space between wall and tile. Other problems I will not add here. So disappointed. Any suggestions about making it easier to get up the wrong grout myself.
Wait till you watch the last two in the series..... !!!
hi , why did you not use a drill to do the mixing
Because you don't need one for small amounts. I only wanted to mix a small amount for the video and because I'm working alone. I wanted different setting times as I did the floor so that means separate batches.
With 5mm gap do I need sanded grout?
YW as we say in Morse. Start watching my LIVE streams. Get my FREE newsletter at www.AsktheBuilder.com
@sojiah 24 hours minimum
So should I do all the step in small section
Yes.
Simple. You mix it like mortar because that's the right way to do it. Your way makes the grout very weak.
My wife loves it. :->>>>>>
The answer is maybe..... You have to determine why the crack happened. Whose to say it won't reappear a week after you repair it?
damn Tim, sorry to hear that :(
what a great, ass-saving, tutorial Tim, i am a professional handiman, now the grout master! ha

If this was a bet one could make at one of the Bellagio's blackjack tables, I would bet Yes. :->
I would LOVE to tile our floor but we only rent so it's out of the question. If we bought the place, that would be the first thing I would have done, lol.
well you did say that "its the exact way in my opinion" so you mix your way and I'll mix my way. You're a general contractor that knows a little about everything involved in home renovation, but the tavvy tile guy strictly does tiles, and if he says ketchup...then i'm going with the ketchup. I'd highly recommend you wear a respirator when pouring the mix because breathing in the dusty air isn't good for anyone.
why did you mix the grout like mortar? I mix mine thin because it's gonna be a bear to work with otherwise
OMG that mustach!!! :{D
I'm here to tell you that you're wrong. No professional would grout twice. It's not necessary. I urge you to go to the Portland Cement Association and do lots of reading about water/cement ratios. You need to understand that you have a *fixed* amount of Portland cement in each measure of the grout you use. If you exceed the amount of water required for hydration for that exact amount of cement, you *decrease* the strength of the grout. Period. If you don't agree with me, go to the PCA.
I am no expert. But i used solo cups and came up with 4 cups grout to 1 cup water.
Did you do this alone?
hey tim, are there such a thing as prescription safety goggles?
All are well, although my mom passed away about three weeks ago.
When your grout cracks, crumbles and falls apart, you'll know you made a mistake. Go to my AsktheBuilder website, the dot com one, and read all about what happens when you add too much water to concrete. This is not rocket science. Go get some Aleeve and do it the right way, my way. You know the old saying don't you? Excuses are reasons for failure. You're making excuses.
