    I was looking out for your video last night (I'm in Scotland so it's usually late evening when your video is up) but no video! My husband asked "what are you looking for!" So I said "Rachel, she's normally here by this time every Thursday, hope she's ok." He looked at me for a while then said "who's Rachel?". So I explained that you are a you tuber that I love to follow, he said that the way I spoke about you, it was as if I knew you personally! So when he got home from work today he asked if I had heard from Rachel. I said yes, you were fine!
    Love your wee girl, love that she wanted to look for worms! And jumping on the leaves. Great fun!!

      haha, too funny! I was pretty bummed that I didn't get it posted in time. I'm late with nearly EVERYTHING in my life it seems, so I knew this was bound to happen eventually ;-) Thanks for waiting up for me!

      I'm late with nearly everything too...I'm hoping with downsizing and simplifying....i will have finally caught up.....i always feel I'm late or running behind and too many things to do..and..thats just it...the focus is on too many things....spread thin and taking on too much while still dealing with the old stuff....and find oops late again. but its ok because those that are on time....don't really have much going on(that could be good....or very boring)...and one day i will find the balance between full and still on time.......once i tackle the overflow. don't be bummed..you are getting it done.

    I had to laugh when you said that you didn't get a lot done. You did get a lot done!! Oh my goodness. I dread cleaning up the yard after winter. Getting rid of all that dead debris is huge! Now your flowers will have room to grow and bloom and you'll have a beautiful yard to enjoy.

    • @MessyMinimalist
      @MessyMinimalist  7 лет назад +8

      I suppose you're right! I guess the 'before and after' just seemed so bla - which is why I didn't show them! Reality is, everything this time of the year looks a little 'bla' because everything is still waking up from winter :)

    My motivation comes and goes, but my rule of thumb is one project a day, if I'm not real motivated it's a small project, if I'm all keyed up I do a large project, but I always do ONE project a day without fail.

    • @MessyMinimalist
      @MessyMinimalist  7 лет назад +2

      That's a great way to do it. Nice job

      This is also a great approach for people with chronic illnesses (including anxiety and depression) to feel like they've got something to aim for and yet not get overworked. For some people, simply taking a shower or getting a bill paid is enough for one day - and it's better than nothing!

    • @raapyna8544
      @raapyna8544 6 лет назад

      Nakidz Yup! But sometimes after you get that one thing done, it feels so good to be "free", that you get more done. I have a bad habit or tendency though, to feel really good and optimistic in January with an empty calendar, schedule a bunch of stuff, and not realize I won't have all that time and energy later. I seem to kind of forget how I usually am and my reality and take up too much responsibilities. Then I feel bad because I fail in my schedules. I need to split tasks into smaller pieces and sessions, and sometimes I need to make a plan b that is really low-effort for the case that I'll be unable to function properly enough for the plan a.

    • @darleneh608
      @darleneh608 6 лет назад

      Great idea. Maybe have some small projects keyed up and ready to go. Like, for example, a small box of papers or a drawer you can sort through while watching TV. To make this easier, you could keep a list of small projects for you to choose from.

    I am so binging on your purging and decluttering videos! Keep up the great work! You are setting a great example for your little one too as well as breaking the cycle that your mother passed to you as far as shopping habits and hoarding habits. Great Job!! You've motivated me to go through my closet and all the little nooks and crannies of my little apartment and it already feels so much bigger due to the amount of space I've created. Now I'm trying to plan a yard sale with all the extra ish...

    What a refreshing video! I've also been on the decluttering and organizing journey since January. It's been quite the process as I'm sure you know and I was feeling guilty about having planned to take some "me" time tonight. But your video reminded me that taking time to recharge is okay and essential to staying on track. Thank you!

    I think everybody understand, that apart from youtube you have a LIFE to live. And showing us that you are not a super powered woman, that can do anything without getting tired like some kind of robot represents you as simply human being. So don't worry, the most important part is that you keep going to your goal. It's your chose to set up the speed of this journey.
    p.s. You are really motivating me to clean our new apartment where we just move in. Thank you, keep doing! Sorry, if my English is too bad, I send you love and regards from Russia!

    Since your last video ive been checking daily to see if you've posted a new video. You are SO motivating to watch. Ive been feeling totally blah. Im trying to curb my shopping to pay off debt and im trying to declutter and watching you totally gives me that "momentum" your talking about. Ive dealt with tons of stuff i cut my storage unit from a 10x10 to a 5x5 and im saving $160/month just from that. And ive sold stuff ive realized i really dont need to keep. Watching you is like watching myself. Just wanted to let you know that im a huge fan and what your doing really is helping others! ❤️ thanks for being so awesome.
    Purging so much so fast can leave us with feelings of loss. We attach so much sentimentality to our items when we get rid of so much at once we perceive it the same way as a death and go through the grieving process. Perhaps thats where you've gotten to in your declutter journey.

    Watching your channel is super motivating for me! I've lived so much of my life in a haze of clutter and after watching you in several videos I feel like I can really change my life. (I know this is an old one...) I woke up today feeling very motivated to finally clean my desk space, definitely an avalanche project. I've been having fun giving my stuff away on Facebook...to people who actually will go to the effort to get the stuff! It's great. Thank you again!

    Good for you!! I think raking up leaves and trimming plants and getting them all ready for spring are Very worthy of your time!! I adore taking all the dead stuff and leaves and branches off the dirt on potted plants and around flower beds. It makes your yard look so tidy! I adore watching your challenge. I'm happy you've been doing so great around your house/hotel! Can't wait for more!!
    PS when your little girl wanted you to jump in the leaves and pulled you over so you could jump too ....that was classic. xo

    Great video! I find yard work very satisfying too. I live on the east coast of Canada and right now we still have mountains of snow. So yard work will have to wait. So...I have just been diagnosed with severe ADHD, and even without the diagnosis I know I have a problem with impulse buying!! Basically what happens is I turn into a hoarder, I have no idea what I own because I have a bad memory, I don't have the attention to fix the problem, and when I try to get rid of stuff I feel bad, so I keep it. Then I get stressed out and horrible anxiety because my house is a disaster!! A friend of mine introduced me to the idea of minimalism, and I was instantly intrigued. At first I thought, I don't have a clue how I'm going to do this! But then as I did extensive research I realized that in the end what I should really be more focused on is what is right for me! I want to simplify my stuff because it will help me to be more organized, which my brain desperately needs to be able to avoid becoming anxious. Its not just freeing a space, it frees my mind. But through the process, I instantly liked your channel, and it has easily become a favorite! I love how real you are, how genuine and encouraging you are! Watching your videos encourages me to keep decluttering knowing that I can reach my goals...so...thanks for being you 😉 it makes a difference

    So agree to go with it if you are motivated. De-cluttering videos or an episode or two of Hoarders/Clean House can usually motivate me. "Do you really want to end up on these shows? No? Go clean now!"

  • @leann6767
    @leann6767 6 лет назад

  • @debbieomi
    @debbieomi 7 лет назад

    Have to say, your daughter is adorable! And, yep, she's a northern Michigan girl- wanting to go hunt some worms! lol
    I have a huge problem area with my desk. I hoard stationary and office supplies and pieces of paper I know longer need. I finally took control today! My computer died a few months ago and it took this time to save up enough to purchase a new one. I was determined that I was not going to set it up amongst all that clutter so Saturday was spent cleaning and sorting through it all. My reward was getting the new computer set up today! And, the bonus is that I listed on FB sell groups all the crap I had in drawers or boxes and hadn't used in months or years and sold 90% of it straight away! What doesn't sell by the Thursday evening meet goes to our local thrift store Friday morning! I am definitely saying mmmm!

    I don't have a house of my own, so I just clean my room. I'm still in high school. I've gotten rid of 165 things so far. Yeah, I counted. I am extremely sentimental and love colorful stuff, so I won't have one of those spotless rooms with white walls. But that's okay. You and I are both minimalists, but we keep what we love and get rid of what we don't. We do our best, and that's what counts! I love minimalism. Sorry for the long comment, haha.

    Oh man, I'm dreading having to clean up my backyard once the weather clears up here in Western NY. While I definitely get the MMMM after it's done. • @MessyMinimalist
      @MessyMinimalist  7 лет назад

      It is a long process - but I like doing it better than the fall/winter prep of taking down stuff. Plus I'm always feeling so cooped up from winter that it's almost a treat to go outside. But I hear ya! Do you have enough property where you could compost or push your leaves to the side instead of bagging them. (I dread having to bag stuff too....)

    All those leaves are great for a garden compost! If you are trying to embrace minimalism in the amount of trash you create, a compost is a great thing to have! So much of what we throw out is compostable and eventually it gives you amazing, nutritional (for the plants) soil. :)
    Keep up the good work! I love watching your journey. It is very inspiring!

    • @MessyMinimalist

    Wow..I think you got a LOT done.......theres something satisfying about raking leaves...and leaving room for new growth.
    I'm on May long weekend....and since the school is closed today.I got into some mischief with my dog..went for a walk got some sun.....sat down to have a bite for lunch and played this video...and feeling some renewed motivation to get some stuff done......ahhh fresh air is rejuvenating isn't it. thanks for the inspiration...now going to go jump on the motivation while its here.

    Rachel I live for your videos!!!! I get so excited when I see a new one 😁 👍🏼 You have no idea how helpful and motivating they are. I love watching one right before I dive into a purge or cleaning project! thank you for making these!!!! Great breakdown on this one, I can relate to "not every weekend is going to be a huge purge" sometimes I get so down on myself. Also your daughter is the cutest!! I have a 2 yr old little girl and I love seeing their similarities. My little one is always trying to help out..but usually making more mess LOL. Anyways thank you and looking forward to joining you on more of your journey 🤗👍🏼

      Aw - thanks for this comment! :) I'm really love hearing that people feel inspired by them! It makes my day. :-D I hear you on having a little one make more messes than helping! haha, it's pretty cute to see them try tho :) Thanks for following - and good luck!!

    Your daughter is so sweet. I love how you involved her in your project. Being outside is so invigorating. At this time of year, when you can, you should. 😊 Love your videos. They have really inspired me to return to my downsizing project. I was going strong for months, and then I petered out a bit. Back to it and looking at my stuff through a fresh lens.

    I don't think you didn't do all that much outside. You did a lot actually. You cleaned up the spaces so you can move on to the next step. That is very big.
    Also, your daughter is such a cutie!!

    I really enjoy watching your channel!!Watching your videos has motivated me to get so much done! I'm also find it relaxing or calming to know another mom has same type of struggles, maybe worse 🤔!! My husband walked into the kitchen this morning and I was eating breakfast and watching your video and he said " Are you seriously watching another mom clean?? It's like mommy porn!" 😜 Maybe so but I'm glad I have you in my life...glad we all have the same struggles and just knowing that I'm not the only one helps so much. I also greatly appreciate all of your valuable lessons/insight about CRAP we do not really need! 👍 Cheers
