    Truly original, I wish a remake was available for modern systems.

      Some games are just weird why there never were any sequels or remakes. Why on earth haven't we gotten a new Stunt car racer for example???

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +3

      Very true, imagine something like this - polished, for a modern console. I'd still say the C64 version would be the best 😄🕹👌

    As far as I am concerned, this is the best game on the C64. I totally agree with your theory that people who dislike the game didn't know you had to collect the pearls to enable the anti gravity icon. When I first played it I thought it was impossible to control and was going to give up on it, but once you have these abilities it suddenly clicks and you can get into the game. I particularly like the later levels where you have to go between levels to mix the primary colours to create the required shade. Utterly brilliant and the music is one of Galway's finest tracks.

      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +1

      Absolutely agree that it has to be up there in everyone's top 10 games for the Commodore 64. Galways music is legendary 😇🕹👌

    Wizball on the Commodore C64 is the best shoot-em up ever. C64 Wizball is also the very best version of the game; no other versions are close to this. Completely epic. What the Commodore C64 was made for.

    Still feel the shivers run up & down my spine when I hear this music. Really in all respects one of the very best of the C64 imo. Graphics, sound, music, gameplay all top notch. Wot a wizace!

    This was a great game. When i did my military service (1988) i was forced to stay over a weekend, so me and a friend played this game 3 days without turning off the computer. One moved the wizard and one moved the cat, so it was a co-op game.

    WIZBALL 😺👍🕹️!!!!
    One of my retrospectively biggest favorite games ever 😺👍🕹️!
    I had it for my Commodore 64 as a tape
    in a compilation called
    THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN -
    which is one of the best compilations for the Commodore 64 ever 😺👍🕹️.
    Now, i still have it for my Amiga 500 as one of the TEN STAR PACK games 😺👍🕹️.
    I have never finished the Commodore 64 version 😹,
    but i did finish the Amiga version three times 😹😸😺👍🕹️.
    I also had its awesome sequel,
    WIZKID: THE STORY SO WIZBALL II,
    for my Amiga 500 😺👍.
    One thing, that still amazes me, is that the cover art for WIZKID was drawn by Robert Crumb
    (FRITZ THE CAT, MR. NATURAL) 😺👍.

      I'd have loved to have owned that compilation (Magnificent Seven) am am hoping to cover all games that came on it over the coming weeks for sure. What an awesome compilation that is 😇🕹👌

  • @aceabo88
    @aceabo88 Год назад +3

    This is one off the seminal games for the 64. It didn't take my fancy at all at first but when I got the magnificent 7 compilation which this was on and I played it that was it I was hooked. This game excels in every department. Music, sound effects, graphics and of course gameplay which it had in bucket loads. I highly recommend anyone who never managed to get into it to try again because you really are missing out on something special.

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +2

      Absolutely bang on there - a seminal game for sure. Anyone from any age able enough to grab a joystick should give this game a go as I'm sure they'd definitely enjoy it... if not, even love it 😇🕹️👌

  • @Sg-gg8dp
    @Sg-gg8dp Год назад +2

    Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!!!
    By far and away the best shooter on the 64. Fantastic as 1 player, simply unbeatable as 2 player with a mate controlling the cat.
    My only criticism is that it initially took a while to click for me. It looked pretty enough, and sounded great, but I struggled a little with it (I was 11 years old at the time, in my defence!), but when that lightbulb appeared above my head, there was no looking back.
    Some games had great graphics, some had originality, some had great sound/music - this had them all. Absolutely brilliant.

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +2

      I absolutely get what you mean about the game 'clicking'.. I think it was after initially discovering I could control Wizball so effortlessly after upgrading the anti-grav... it felt so 'smooth' in the gameplay and the fact there was no game timer meant I could freely explore the whole game without any pressures. I must have played this game for hours and hours back when I was 7 years old in 1987.... pure nostalgia 😇🕹️👌

    Loved that game back in the day. A mate of mine would play Cattelite while I played the Wizball. Many hours of fun and blaming each other for failure ensued.
    Really original game. Great fun.

      @@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yeah, definitely one of my favourites, to the point that when I got the Amiga, I bought it for that too. C64 always held a special place in my heart though. The amount of games I had for that thing, both bought and pirated was obscene.
      Sometimes I think half my youth was spent fucking around with a screwdriver adjusting the tape-deck azimuth to get games to load.

    One of the very best games of the 8 bit era and superb on C64 with memorable visuals and some of the best sounds and music on the machine. Once you got from Cauldron 2 control to getting the first pearl and powering up it was a joy to play. Do I remember right that a second player could control the Cat?

    "a basic idea of gaming in the 80s was interacting with your dreams" Wow this is such an insightful remark. You are completely right. That's exactly what it felt like. It's a bit embarrassing to say but a lot of times I would inject myself into the character I was playing on the screen and imagine I was part of this amazing world which always so much more exciting than the real one. I was quite the daydreaming child when I was younger.

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  26 дней назад +1

      I was definitely a daydreamer, I was lost in a world of Commodore 64 games... and each of them had a resound impact on my youth in one way or another. Superb times back in the 80s... how I long for those days once more. Probably why I love the nostalgia and hopefully sharing some love for these games can bring back those happier times for many of us too😇🕹️👌

    Literally my favourite game ever. Never beat it. I literally got taken out by the last 3 monsters trying to get the last few colour drops i needed. Took 2 hours. I was devasted. As you know no save states. Hard to find that time free without interuption as an adult.

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +2

      You're right there, imagine having no saves or continues with games as epic as this in the modern era of games - I think kids would be smashing controllers up and down the country! Haha, we definitely had much more patience in the 80s 😇🕹️👌

    • @Wishbone1977

      Well, play it on an emulator, and you can save/pause all you want. You don't have to play through it all in one sitting anymore. I have a USB Competition Pro joystick I use for emulation, just like the good old days, microswitches and all. Sadly, noone has remade The Arcade in a USB version, which is a pity as that was by far my favourite joystick of the era.

      To be fair though, if you just leave it on the title screen, it will cycle through several different screens explaining most of the game mechanics. There really isn't any great need for a separate manual.

      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  Год назад +1

      Very very true... a lot of the games my brother managed to get for us was on turbo load C64 casettes back in the day... the C90's that you mention - and in an era without the internet, we were pretty screwed without instructions for some of the games. some thoughts... So, the cover art is 10/10 would do magic in space with a cat. The idea, story and presentation are so unique and creative it gets points just for that. but the gameplay shines, it really gets the most out of the concept as it can. The music is just right and the sound is cool! Cheeky this is a must play for sure!! Why do i feel like this game would be a perfect tablet game?
