Please don't stop your videos because a couple of people think they own the rights to mixed media. Your work is awesome and I love watching your videos.
Thank you Debbie, I really appreciate it, things like this can be a little discouraging especially given how much time and effort goes into making up a video tutorial. It's nice to know that there are so many of you out there that appreciate it. xo xo
I love your art Gabrielle! It's really awesome! I wish I could learn to be as free and creative as you are! I have such a problem with trying to get everything perfect. It really sucks all the creativity out of everything! My favorite is your Steampunk Mixed Media Journal Cover! It is beautiful!
I love your tutorials Gabrielle & thankful for all the great stuff you inspire us all to do. TFS love it. . . Now I just need a little H20. I have wanted to buy this in the past & love how it just adds the right amount of shine. Great job.
wow so glad you have turned up the notch on simple techniques... I watch in amazement and so wish to break out of the rut!! Thanks for making it possible!! awesome work.
Loved this. The process was fascinating! It's amazing to see how your think the design out. It just evolves. Sometimes there is no plan...just instinct and it showed in how the design was born....lovely....
amazing, I've. neaver seen any thing like it. beautiful.PLEASE PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! I LOVE YOU WORK. Keep it coming. It's very fashionable. Your ahead of the fashion. thank u.
I love what you created. I am not sure what the fuss is about. I have been seeing the techniques you used several times by many different artists. Keep up the good work I enjoy watching you!
Thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate that you can see that I've shared this tutorial because of my love for the craft. This was meant as a showcase for Dusty Attic Chipboard, to show how well it works with this style of mixed media. When I said that Finnabair inspired this, my meaning was that her 'body of work' was an inspiration, this was not an imitation of one particular project she has done. I actually gleened a lot of the design tips from a number of other artists on youtube that have shared tutorials in this mixed media style. Your positive feedback on my work is much appreciated! xo xo
Gabrielle, this is the first video I have watched by you and it is WONDERFUL. I'm not sure why anyone would be upset with your tutorial...Finnabair has a channel with dozens of such tutorials on mixed media (by other artists) and yours is one of the best! Like you, most of them verbally acknowledged Finnabair and then get on with their project. Keep up the great work! I just subscribed to your channel and cannot wait to watch more of your vids!
Well Gabrielle... you cant please everyone. lol I guess some people just don't like purple However! Purple is my favorite color! I loved watching you do this. Thank you so much for sharing.... We have been remodeling a 1970's house this past year and i have been saving bits of this and that and want to try doing something like this with it... Cross your fingers.... Hugs! deb
You really are one very cleaver lady your passion is enormous, I couldn’t do this but I’m so glad to have watched it’s so inspirational, love love the colour scheme the appliqué is amazing your hands did the work to turn this into another exquisite piece of Art hugs your amazing Xxx 🦋🌹🌸🎀🌷💐
I love that, the colors are great! You've inspired me. I've never worked with Gesso before, and now I'm mad that its too late to go to Michaels and get some. LOL...but I will tomorrow for sure ;). Thanks for sharing.
I am sad to see this too.... I was honoured to be able to take a class from Finnabair.... And although I have been inspired to make 5 canvases since taking her class.... I would never show how to do it on you tube. Maybe you should reconsider having this video up!
Helen, I've never actually taken a class of Finnabairs, so had no idea that she has put a ban on people sharing projects done in the style that she has pioneered and that is now commonly used by many, many scrapbookers and shared in tutorials. It's not top secret how this is done. I have many followers who like to imitate my style and share what they've learned from me and I take no issue with it, that's why we share and teach, as a matter of fact I'm delighted when people show me their take on some of my projects. this tutorial was done to showcase Dusty Attic Chipboard and how well it works in mixed media. It's sad that a few people are getting so up in arms about this.
What a gorgeous combination of colors! I noticed some areas took the purple really well, is it that those elements were more porous maybe? It's such a great piece!! TFS Gabrielle! :)
Hi Jules, yes I think that some area's will take on color better than others becaue of their porous quality (for example the lace really absorbed the color well. If you want the color to be darker in some areas, a second coat doesn't hurt. :)
You're my inspiration to new ideas. I really want to do this but some of the items are not available in the UK. I'm trying to use bits and pieces of all sorts to try and achieve the same results. Cutting cardboard out is laborious but I keep going. If anyone knows where i can get dusty attic supplies in the UK please please let me know. Thank you Gabie x
Thanks so much Sarah! and YES! there is an awesome store in the UK that carries Dusty Attic called Absolute Scrap! I have them listed in the side column of my blog under the DA badge. I can't post a link in a reply so I'll post the link up in my description area for you okay? (and thanks again for the kind words!) xo
Gabi, people REALLY have to get over themselves. The last original piece of art is on the walls of caves. I told Lisa Gregory that we're all papercrafters for crying out loud. We haven't been commissioned by the friggin Pope to paint a Vatican ceiling. Don't stop doing what you do :) "Haters gonna hate, but I just love, love, love." Teresa Giudice New Jersey Housewives :D
LOL! You make me smile Paula! (love watching the RHNJ).....I had no idea there is any discussions going on somewhere about this. I think I made a mistake in trying to do a nice thing in acknowledging Finn as my inspiration. I did this because I wanted to acknowledge her 'body of work', being one of the first to work in this style. My design was not in any way an imitation of her Spell book. I have never taken one of her classes. I have no idea what mediums she uses on her projects or have a full comprehension of her process. What I know of this style of mixed media is what I've gleaned from watching countless youtube videos of other artists that have worked in the same mixed media style. I probably should have listed them instead. People who know me, know that I share my tutorials purely for the love of the craft, it makes me happy to see peoples joy when they've tried something new and were successful at it. I've had people copy my projects right down to products used and placement, and I don't mind at all. It's how people learn. Why do we teach if we don't want anyone to use it. ....I don't want to step on her toes in respect to her classes, and I don't think I am. There are loads of video's out there showing this style of mixed media, it's not a top secret. I admire her work but am sad she has taken this stance about others working in the same style she works in. I hope she'll have a change of heart. ....thanks again for your kind support hon! xo xo
1 word wow . And omg I cannot believe some of these comments if you don't like this then don't comment as to go as far and say so ones hard work looks like shit well that's shocking why don't you give it ago yourself and see how fab you can do it , nasty nasty really is I abs love it
Love your work Gabrielle, only thing I ask is could you make the subtitles darker or more visable I find them very hard to read with the background. Cheers Lyn
Hi Janick, the flowers I put on the page were gold to start with but I used the same Luminarte 'Silks' in the purple 'Snap Dragon' color (lightly brushed in the centers of the blooms) to have them coordinate with the book cover. :)
Can you please tell me the name of that specific cutting board. I bought one that I thought was similar in a teacher supply store, and the wheel that cuts the paper barely meets the paper. It's just awful!
Hipretty, so sorry, I only just now saw your comment, the cutter I used is from my local craftstore (Michaels), it's a Fiskar, I find it is good and sharp (you can get replacement blades for it)....but I'm not so sure I'd recommend it because I find that my cuts for cardmaking are not perfection, the cut is off by a tiny bit. But, it works well enough for trimming :)
I've been watching your videos for years and my artistic projects have a lot to do with your work. I like to watch them again and again. 👏👏👏
Amazed at the talent so many people have. You are very blessed. This was gorgeous. Thanx for sharing.

My daughter and I simultaneously said, "Wow!" at the end. Great work!

How long are you actually holding the dryer on the gesso for it to dry? I am wanting to attempt this for the first time soon. Thanks!
if you apply a thin coat it takes about five minutes to dry with a blow dryer
Thanks!
