  • Don't compromise on gear... 2 hour shoot or a 40 day expedition in Antarctica? Wedio got you covered!
On Feb 25, 2020, Anders Hofman completed the first-ever, long distance triathlon in Antarctica, the Iceman, to show that limitations are perceptions of what we can achieve. The purpose was to inspire others to dare pursue their “impossible” dreams.
“Today, we often put boundaries on ourselves or other people, making up limitations of what is achievable. But I want to show that limitations are only perceptions of what we can achieve. That even the ordinary can achieve the extraordinary through passion, extreme dedication, and an immense belief in yourself.”

My name is Andreas Hofmann, and in 2020, I completed the first ever long-distance triathlon in Antarctica, The Iceman. So that is 3.8-kilometer swim in ice water, 180 kilometers of biking in for me, deep snow and then a marathon, which is 42.2 kilometers on a glacier in Antarctica.
We had a weather window of 36 hours of doing this. I thought if all conditions were right, it would take me around 24 hours. But I quickly realized early on on the bike that that was definitely not the case. But there was nothing else to do than just, you know, keep riding. I think the best moment of the Iceman was actually also the lowest moment of the Iceman. I wanted to show the limitations of our perceptions of what we can achieve, but I don't think I realized that I had to break through my own perception of where my limits were. So, your mind becomes a very dark place. But that was when I realized that, you know, that was the whole reason of being there. I had to break through that.
So, in doing that, that was a big challenge in terms of filming, of course. And also, during the expedition I had four people going there in charge of documenting everything, but that also meant we had to bring so much gear for 40-day expedition. And that's really where Wedio came in and saved us in the end because we had to source so many different cameras, lenses, drones, parallaxes. I don't even know what it is really. And then, you know, you hear you need X amount of memory cards and 30 batteries and all this stuff. And I don't think I realized how expensive camera equipment really is until you have to source a fun expedition like this. So luckily, we can make a great deal with Wedio, and it meant a lot to me and the team in terms of not compromising on making it the best film it could be and documented in the best way possible.
The reason I love Wedio is because you can source whatever you need. For me, we had a long list of things that we needed for the expedition, and I just send that. And then it became very easy for me. It became like a one stop shop in terms of getting whatever I needed. And then you can get it within a day for a two-hour shoot or a 40-day expedition, in my case, they got you covered.
I did The Ice Man to show the limitations of perceptions of what we can achieve. I believe we all have our own Iceman in life. I hope that this journey can inspire those people to their pursuit anyway, regardless of what other people think they are capable of.
