Love you channel. Great detailed explanations. One criticism, this channel will grow exponentially and very quickly...you are going to have to upgrade channel backdrop from your laundry room...just say’in. Excellent channel!
Haha that is my shop. My laundry stuff is in the basement/shop :) I did just add a backdrop. Made a short about it but hoping to find the white curtain I have for real videos haha
Just another dude multi-tasking while doing laundry. That's why I like you, buddy! Sorry, I tried to buy you a cyber-beer but my out of date browser isn't cooperating. The tool addiction is winning the priority war of my bank account.
I really like the substance of the content on this channel! I do wish the you had better cameras and lighting, and sound. But I shouldn't complain, since I'm not paying for it. Hope you are blessed with RUclips money and better video equipment in the future, until then keep up the good work!
Thank you! And trust me I agree :( if I start making money on here thats the first thing imma upgrade. Don't wanna invest too much unless I know it'll go somewhere lol
That frog design is similar to the Baily type 3 design that was abandoned for the old design in type 4… they had a one size frog fits all planes 3 thru 8 with the frog being number 3 size… it was stupid and failed but it’s interesting and take a look for yourself.. I did and it looks like they got the idea from that design
They deff did. I never understood why they didn't make this plane with a different frog after learning the other wasn't super strong like a standard frog
Circle on the mouth should be to prevent cracks from forming in the sharp corners. Probably not necessary in the newer more ductile material. Edit: just saw someone else already caught this. Sorry!
They make portholes on ships round for the same reason - to distribute torsional strains around the circumference of the circle rather than concentrating it in a square corner.
Wow I was not really expecting that with the Stanley frog. I knew they were fragile from reading Dereck Perth's blog and review about one he got, with the fix on his from a past owner being to outright weld it down, but man, that thing is tissue paper thin. I wonder why they didn't just find a way to slap on a standard Bailey frog or do a modified slanted frog with a similarly modified base like Miller's Falls did decades later on a single prototype jack plane that had a skewed mouth.
I agree. As I looked a little farther I'm seeing that this is actually a Bailey design like the original Bailey design if you look at some of his planes they have a frog that is similar to this 1. They should have upgraded it though that's why they upgraded the other ones lol
@@BatCaveCreations Thats what I thought I love your videos! I think you said the Stanley was longer while showing the lie-Nielsen was longer. However I may be wrong it’s late where I’m at. Keep up good work. New subscriber here!
5:50 The circle prevents cracks propagating from the corners of the mouth.
I agree. I worked in Tool & Die for 43 years. Sharp corners tend to crack.
Thank you!!!! I didn't know that!
I use my Stanley Shooting Plane all day long. Works great. Got it for free when someone was throwing it out.
Great repair job

I use my Stanley No.51. They are not that fragile. Made to be used.

Which one is longer?
If I remember correctly the Lie Nielsen is like maybe 1/8th longer
