      My GAS just made me buy a canon EF 70-200 f2.8 L III..
      now its telling me to buy that PD Capture Clip you're using. Ever used it with a canon 5d type dslr? dunno if i'd trust my 70-200 on it, but my 24-105 would be nice i think.
      cheers

      @@xXUnrulyXx haha, nice! That's an excellent lens and can produce some amazing images.
      With the capture clip, it has a hard bit of metal at the bottom so it physically can't slip out unless you've been strung upside down in a Wampa cave on the planet Hoth.
      I'd be comfortable hanging the 5d with the 70-200mm on it, you might just have to turn the collar to one side though. That's what I do with the 50-400mm.

    The GAS thing is truly something that one should try minimize I agree. I started with a pre owned Nikon crop sensor camera and worked my way up to a pro system. Most viewers wouldn't even notice when seeing the images... and I felt way more creative with my trusty ol' camera

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  2 года назад +1

      Most definitely Gary, "I think you shot that with a crop sensor camera" said no one ever! It's all about the thought behind the camera and not the price of the kit! ... although I do struggle at times when a new bit of kit comes out!! 😆

    He's back!!! 🥳. Loved this. Your enthusiasm and genuine love of 'on location' photography is what sets you apart from the rest and brings me back time and time again (well, that and the notification from RUclips! 😉). Great to see you doing what you love and do best! Would you consider your A7iv a prime example of diminishing returns over the A7iii? We all love the allure of new kit though I'm guessing as a professional photographer yours was mainly (possibly?) based on 'needs' and not 'desires'. Or not?! I am not remotely interested in the new Fuji X-H2 (more for the video user) or the X-T5 whenever that comes out. I think I'm happy where I am for now. The mountain huts are very plush these days! A far cry from the ones I used to visit in my youth - however, you'd think they'd move away from those 70's corner sofas though 😉😂 Great work, great video and thanks for the entertainment 👌🏼

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  2 года назад

      Haha! Cheers dude!! It is great to be back!!! ... also great to know that the youtube notifications are still working well.
      There are some good upgrades but they are relatively small compared to the A7iii ... the biggest one is the focussing system. For moving subjects it is fantastic and well worth the upgrade but for landscapes, the only advantage is the higher megapixel count which isn't actually that much more when it comes to actual image size. I've got a "Vs" video coming soon on the differences for landscapers and what I think after using both.
      I got it for the video functions but if I was just a landscaper, I would have invested in lenses.
      Haha! The 70s corner sofas are all the rage these days ... like the 80s looking clothes teenagers seem to be wearing in the UK!! 😆😆😆

    Awesome video! I agree with the lessons, as a matter of fact those were the lessons I followed from your earlier videos that have helped me so much to get to where I am with my photography, so thank you again!
    Sony a6000 was great for me, specially on the fact that sony's eMount allows to use Full Frame lens, so transition to better/newer sony bodies was even smoother (although I ended up transitioning to fujifilm).
    The timelapses were simply amazing by the way. Have been doing more lately, and wow they take long, and you feel the weather ever more 😅
    The photo at 10:35 left me jawdropped!

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  2 года назад +1

      Great to hear my videos are helping with your photography!!
      How are you getting on with the fuji cameras? I hear great things about them.
      Shooting timelapses definitely drop the core temperatures, especially with all of the standing around. A hot flask of coffee helps in those circumstances!! 😆
      That image was one of my favourites as well ... and that light only lasted about 2 minutes so it was a rush to get them all without messing up the settings ... I didn't even have enough time to get my tripod out!!
      As always thanks for watching 😁👍

    • @luxdalet
      @luxdalet 2 года назад +1

      @@mikesphotography I am loving my fuji cameras (X-T4 and X100V). I got into fujifilm because of options to have color/film profiles be created and saved in-camera, so I spend less time editing the RAWs because I can get the approximate look or actual straight out of camera details in jpeg.
      It actually becomes quite an addiction to experiment with all of the options to make your own film look, or go to fuji x weekly site to implement the ones posted there.
      Additionally the classic design of the cameras is very fun, I love the manual dials for everything, and most of their lenses have aperture ring too.
      Yes, I have to remember to bring coffee and snacks to my next timelapse :D
      My pleasure Mike! Always enjoy your work and you fun personality! Cheers!

    Just for the record I went out a week or so ago and took the best images of the shoot immediately on arrival, (that good they have been printed are are hung on the wall at home), I didn’t have to warm up my creative muscle or anything like that just went out with an open mind on what I would see/find when I got to the location. Too many videos about doing this or doing that, just get out and press that shutter, that first picture may be the LPOTY winner, remember the most important thing is to enjoy your photography.

      That mix-up had me wondering too... You'll need endorphins if you're not in shape for all that slope climbing/ descending. (In reality they are 'created' by our workouts and are the high you feel after a workout. It looks like they help us with handling pain.)

    I have a nikon d3500 is there anyway I can take it out in conditions like this. It isn't weather sealed and I wouldn't want to wreck the camera. I have seen rain covers but they look rather cumbersome.

    Those gloves you use and have listed in the description get mixed reviews about comfort. How do you find them?

      That's interesting to hear Mark.
      I've been using them for the past couple of months and they seem to be ok for me.
      I probably could have gone a size smaller with the Milford gloves (the double layer ones), but the tinden are really comfy. We're going snowboarding in a month's time and I'll be wearing the tinden gloves for that, so I can break out the camera when needed ... And also will come in handy when drinking beers on the way down 😁👍

      @@mikesphotography hi again. You've got the Bassdash gloves on the link. Do you use other ones? No mention of Milford or Tinden. Which ones would you recommend for photography use? I value your opinion. Thanks Mike and ATB for new year

      Ah ... Oops ... For some reason I thought this comment was on my latest video, where I talk about the gloves I now use.
      Sorry about the mix-up...🤦🏻‍♂️
      I've been using Vallarret photography gloves recently and they area much better standard than the bassdash gloves.
      The bassdash gloves are very much a budget glove but they are quite good for the price.
      The vallarret gloves are more expensive but they have many different types for different conditions.
      Check them out when you get the chance:

    Talking to yourself is fine. There is a problem when you argue with yourself 😂
    Have you tried a brolly? Wind is wind try Wellington NZ for wind
    Your A74 is sort of weather resistance
    There aren’t many other fools out in rubbish weather. Bad weather only bad dress
    But rubbish weather is the best for drama. Rain brings out the colour. Blue days are yuck
    I got this creek to follow, Waikato Stream off the desert rd in the central north island NZed
    I suspect there are good size waterfalls in the stream. We’ll see
    Maps, I got a topo map on my phone and I find it excellent, enough to get me out of trouble.
    Just binging
    Cheers

      Haha! You are bringing indeed! 😁👍
      I am a little envious of where you live though. We've been to NZ before and can't wait to visit again, such an amazing place to see!
      The main issue with the wind is the audio when filming these videos ... It only has to be 15mph and all of a sudden you have to think about which way you face to not get a ruined audio track ...
      I only argue with myself when I've had a few drinks...😆😆
      Thanks for binge watching Paul. 😁👍

      On Good Friday, I went over to Mount Vernon, and although the sky was relatively bland and not sunny, it had rained earlier (or the previous day but I can’t remember) which caused some raindrops to show on a lot of the garden’s plants. I can definitely agree with bad or mediocre weather bringing out more drama because some of those pictures I took were probably some of the best in my entire life. One of my friends even asked me if it was ai-generated because of how “perfect” they looked lol
