Malcolm's part on this is crazy hard for me to play right I've been at it for ever now. I think I got it right once. One night many moons ago. God be my witness. I'll take that back. Thank you for your work and dedication to the rhythm master.
Honestly, Malcolm's part is waaay harder to play than Angus' in Thunderstruck. Having to keep that steady rythym and picking pattern for over a minutes and a half without tripping up is not easy. Once you get hammer on and pull offs down, Angus' bit becomes pretty easy.
I was thinking the same thing about Angus vs Mal's parts. It's like Gone Shooting; difficult to keep it going and be consistent. It might sound easy but it definitely is not. Some great riffs in there too. They could have written three songs out of those riffs. This is one of those songs that don't sound right without two guitars. Thanks, M.P. great job, as always.
@@cirrus393That is hard. You have to be pretty warmed up to keep your picking hand and fretting hand in sync with all that repetition, doing it cleanly. It's not merely pull-offs and hammer-ons as a previous poster stated.
This is by far the best sounding tutorial on Malcolm's Thunderstruck part I've seen. I was thinking on making my own tutorial on it but now maybe I don't have to, because this sounds quite convincing. It's really tricky to play though, especially getting the sort of muted/non-muted thing going. I've been experimenting with hybrid picking, where the pick plays the A string while you're finger picking the D and G strings. That way you don't have to palm mute and it sounds very percussive, and the G string also sounds very clear. But it's way more difficult to play tight compared to just using the pick.
Thanks man!! Yeah this one is definitely tricky to get right. I’m not convinced I’m doing it exactly like Mal did. There is definitely the muted/non muted thing going on. Listening to the isolated track and then the live isolated is a bit different. If you’re good at finger picking(I’m not) that’s probably the most efficient way to play it.
@@malpractice5904 Yeah, it's the biting percussive tone that Malcolm gets which is hard to replicate 100% with only a pick & palm muting. In that way hybrid picking sounds closer, but I'm not nailing it 100% either. It's a real mystery!
I find that on guitar some of the easiest sounding songs are actually the most difficult. I never underestimate the musicianship in simpler bands. Sometimes simple is both genius and technical wizardry.
Damn! This song more than any other, at least in my mind shows Malcolms greatness. I’ve given up even trying this one. Way beyond my feeble skills🤣 I think you played this pretty damned well my friend!
To my knowledge, for the chorus... 6:20 He played this way from Razor's Edge through Stiff Upper Lip tour 6:28 He switched to this way somewhere in the 2003 Circus Krone era through Black Ice In other words, both are correct.
Yeah he played songs a lot different as time went by. Listen to the differences in Shook Me from the an early days then late. Same chords but strumming patterns are completely different.
that was amazing. Best Thunderstruck Malcolm cover i've ever seen. You dont miss any up and down picking and with perfect rhythm/timing. The tone...brilliant. raw sound. congratulations. Probably u know this version but i recommend to you to listen Thunderstruck Malcolm 2000-09-13 Arizona. FM Sound. I think its my favorite live of this riff.
Great job. I understood Mal played the B chord with hybrid picking. Using his fingers to pick the D & G strings and his pick on the A! Reckon it was hard before?! I am still in awe of the master for this one.
That rythm pattern at the begining is crazy! When I first heard the isolated track it even sounded like a kind of minimalist avantgarde drone! Thanks for your lesson. One question about the roller bridge in your guitar: is it good mantaining intonation? I'm about to build a Les Paul kit and looking for parts to improve I came across a bridge like this and I thought it was really cool looking. Is it worth? Thanks again!
I think Malcolm tapped into some Kantuckee here, Sounds like chicken picking and I still can't get it right. Chicken pickin' itself is where you incorporate the hybrid style of picking with s certain type of tone to emulate almost what a chicken would do, where you are plucking the string you're not just attacking the string like if you were playing blues or rock or any other style.
Great playing man! Can I ask how you get these videos up on youtube? Every time I do something AC/DC related it get blocked. Some of my covers are all right, but if it’s to simular there’s no chance.
Hey Tom. You have to go through the dispute process. Also when I use the isolated tracks it still flags for copyright but sometimes let’s them go through.

Agreed!! I did 50 takes on this. Kept screwing up!

Yeah but Angus doesn't play the intro and main riff using hammer ons and pull offs, he picks the whole thing
I agree with that but on the other hand I enjoy sitting back and playing rhythym guitar

Love it.
This is such a hard song to play accurately and in time but you've done another brilliant job. Thanks for the insight
Thanks Tony. I did about 50 takes on this to get it decent...Timing is still suspect in some spots.
Wow, this is really tricky! And we all thought Malcolm was just standing with his back to the Marshall amps relaxing when Angus did the work 👍 respect
Nope ! Angus was relaxing in the front of the stage when playing the riff, and playing a series of B chords, while Malcolm did the work ! 👍

Nice! this song is hard and you played it incredible. I noticed that Malcolm played it like power chords live but it's really the same
This a perfect cover spot on. Can you make the Live at Donington version ( 1991 ) please ?😊

Thanks John. Yeah it’s close but not 100%. Tough riff.

Thanks man! I was looking for a lot of months to find how to play this intro riff correctly!
Your welcome! Glad it helped out.

Thanks man! I appreciate that a lot. I was at that show in PHX. Loud as hell!
Is that Malcolms guitar? Every detail matches his to the T. Incredible if its his, or incredible job in making it match. And incredible lesson.
Not it’s not buts a custom made one from the UK. Great guitar
Ah the perfect arm workout.
Superb. Very difficult to play well. Love it!

I hadn’t heard that but I wouldn’t be surprised. Just to make it harder to play!!
6:30 If you don't know, I can make a video of how Malcolm played it for you. Do you want me to do it ?
Hey man!! Post of short on it if you like!!
This one makes your forearms burn like crazy for me
😮 🤩😍so good !! This si si hard top play right !! Many Thanks !!!

Thank you! I seems to keep the intonation in line pretty well. Can’t really adjust it though if it got of whack.
El riff mas dificil que he tocado en mi vida y nunca lo he conseguido tocar bien!!

@@malpractice5904 Thanks. I’ll try that next time.
I bet you kept putting off this one! It’s a b*stard to play, but you you got it absolutely spot on! Absolutely brilliant, MalP!!
Haha. I did indeed! Had to work on this one for awhile. And thank you man!
That riff is tough as nails. Looks ans sounds easy, but jeeez it hurts the forearm.
Y ¡OLE TU!
