My husband said he wasn't sure (we were dating at the time)
And the guy answered the answer should be your wife. When you're married, you are meant to be one, and the Bible says you would separate from your parents. (We are Christian). My now husband took that to heart.

Yes! They were talking about baking, but it doesn't just have to do with chemical reactions, but it brings out the sweeter flavors. Same with cooking. Sweet, bitter, salty, and sour balance or cant brighten each other. That why salt is important in cookies and brownies, again not just because the reaction to the other ingredients, but it makes it taste richer, and sweeter without adding more sugar.

There are so many underlying issues with this story. His mother keeps ruining events because he enables her. If their child has an accident, he won't be there either. He made a decision to call his mother and tell her, knowing what could happen because he benefits from their dynamic. He left his potentially labouring high and dry without a second thought. Plus, how on Earth would she know it was a heart attack and not anxiety if she hadn't been seen by a Dr? My lovely mother-in-law would literally have a heart attack and not tell us for days if I was in labour. My husband would call his Dad, a friend of my MILs and an ambulance if that happened. He wouldn't abandon me in labour.

To be fair, and kind of the point Lauren made, most people would feel entrapped in a relationship like that with their mom. Obviously most people have a huge sense of care and obligation towards their parent, especially if this behavior from the MIL has persisted his entire life. He absolutely has a right to feel manipulated, because that is what’s happening, but unfortunately he’s still wrong because overall he’s being manipulated more so by his mom and not his wife. I think it’s fast and easy to call people gross when you’re only hearing the perspective of the person they wronged, but it doesn’t help people break down and analyze these intense family dynamics.

Story 3: What kind of grandmother prioritizes herself over her grandchild? Her pretending to have a heart attack to prevent husband from going to pick up OP is bad enough but for her to do that when she thought OP was IN LABOR indicates a horrific level of enmeshment and control that borders on emotional incest. This MIL cannot stand to not be the most important person in her son's life and OP needs to contact divorce attorneys right now; Husband sounds just a few steps away from that one asshole on Reddit who let his mother assault his pregnant wife and then sided with his mother because MIL convinced him that he couldn't have fathered a girl.

Salt, acid, fat, and heat are the four base components of cooking, sodium is an electrolyte, it’s what allows us to retain water. The danger with high sodium diets is that salt stiffens blood vessels, and this stiffening contributes to heart disease. This is a big problem in the US because of preservatives in food processing; if you’re cooking at home, using salt to taste is totally fine.

Story 3: Divorce him. I know there is a reoccurring joke on Reddit and on this podcast for how quickly we jump to divorce, but in this case, I 100% think that the OP needs to divorce the husband. I am married to a man, who is a recovering mothers boy. And let me tell you, if they love you, and want to get better for you, they will. I now know that my husband has my back 100%, and because he stood up for me, and started holding boundaries with his mom, my relationship actually got better with my mother-in-law. We have a great relationship now, and are very friendly with each other.
The fact that her husband did not come running to her when he thought she was in labor, and now also knowing that her own mother passed away during childbirth….astounds me. I don’t know how you can come back from that. I don’t know how you can be OK being married to somebody who would choose their lying and attention seeking mother over your child and the mother of your child. I couldn’t imagine disrespecting myself and honestly disrespecting my child like that. Is he going to be there for your kid if Something Happens? Or is his mother going to continue to have fake emergency after fake emergency, and his kid will be put on the back burner?
Again, I couldn’t imagine disrespecting myself and my child that much. Because if this situation wasn’t a wake up call, I am telling you he is never going to get better. I really hope that she does consider reaching out to divorce lawyers and seeing what her options are. Because if she doesn’t, she is in for a decades long miserable marriage.

100% agreed + congrats on achieving the impossible (rehabbing a momma’s boy). TBH I thought riding a unicorn to meet Superman in the 1st row at a free Taylor Swift concert was more plausible, so kudos to u (both).
When Everyone Loves Raymond was a big hit, I could hardly watch it. I def couldn’t laugh. That was pretty much MY life at that time, except the Golden Child was my BIL, not my husband, + we (me + MIL) never had the occasional warm moments LOL.

Completely agree with everything you said. OP deserves better, and she's not going to get it with him.
I also think he doesn't want to be at the birth and is using his mom as an excuse because:
      A) he didn't have to call his mom before picking up his wife,
      B) there was no reason for him to ignore her calls when he was with his mom, and
      C) He was way too quick to say he wasn't going to be there. Labor can take well over a day, especially for first time births. For him to just say he'd be tied up for the duration was a total cop out.

*S3:Mommy Dearest -* What’s most baffling is how OP’s “husband” can’t admit that his wife was forced to prove that his mother would sabotage her labor, and when she did, and he let her, he said OP was just as bad as his mother. Why? Becuz she was right? *Gimme his number.*
I HATE that so many women don’t know -who- what they’re with until they’re pregnant. This scenario could be a HORROR movie premise. Nightmare.

He doesn’t need an ultimatum, he needs anti-psychotics. One patient I remember clearly was even able to convince other patients that they should worship and pray to him. My aunt was married to a man who had a psychosis issue. At one point he believed my aunt and cousin were devils and needed to die. He was hospitalized, received treatment, and was stable afterwards for decades. My aunt died of cancer and he remarried to a very "crunchy" woman who preferred oils over medical care. So he stopped his medication. He beheaded her a few months later. I couldn't understand my aunt staying with him after his initial psychotic break. Given the ultimate outcome with the second wife, I'd agree with the advice people have been posting that she needs to demand treatment and protect her family.

So for story 2, I get where you guys are coming from. I’m autistic and things like speaking, learning how to tie my own shoes, nail clipping etc. took me so long just to figure out in life. I actually had to go to OT for a little while because of it. And there were people like this, who essentially said I shouldn’t belong because I didn’t know how to do these things.
So I understand the point you were trying to make. People may have different reasons for wanting to do things a certain way, or even have reasons to NEED to do things a certain way. We shouldn’t be villainizing them for doing these things because they aren’t able to do them. People like OP’s friend are why autistic people struggle so much with mental health and why they feel like they don’t fit it. And this leads to them wanting to….you get the gist.
So I’m very glad I have the friends and family I do, because they are either are autistic, or they know what it’s like living or being around a person with it(because of me).
So thanks for going into OT Morgan. It’s great to know that you were helping people that really needed it, and coming from someone who has being in a situation of needing to go, it’s so awesome and inspiring.

I prefer airbnb's personally, but I also have kids. My husband is split, he likes the fact there is a pool at hotels, airbnb's don't often have pools (unless you're spending exobinant amounts of money). But he likes eating in the airbnb and not having to eat out for every meal. Especially with children who some days eat 2 bites of a meal. When you're spending $10/meal and they eat 2 bites, it's really frustrating. Especially when staying in a hotel, you might have a microwave to reheat leftovers, but microwaved fries are nasty. I like the space in airbnb's. They sleep in their room and we can actually have an evening and watch some TV together without waking the kids. We get our own room. For a family and more than just 1 night, an airbnb makes so much sense. They can be pricier than a hotel in some aspects, but it's worth it imo. But on trips where it's just me and hubby, hotel 100%.

I typically don't cheer for divorce for majority of these reddit stories however in this case I think a divorce may be warranted given how many times he is willing to throw his wife on the back burner for his mother's every need. I highly doubt the husband will set boundaries and will continue this behavior so divorce and full custody for the child 100%.

As someone who is currently pregnant, and also the mother of a little boy I can tell you right now I would NEVER want him to miss the birth of his child, let alone to freaking abandon his wife in labor.
I would be so pissed if i was the MIL in this situation, and my son even slightly entertained leaving his wife alone during that.
Parents, stop putting the responsibility of your happiness on your children!
Will I be sad when my son is old enough to no longer be "mommas boy," of course! But it's on me to get over that and take pride and fulfillment in the man he will become.

I hate to be that person, but the wedding one just seems like creative writing to me. The story is too crazy, and if she had had so much interest and popularity with the media due to her posts, then surely her family would have seen. It also seems quite convenient that she can’t give our details for legal reasons, details which could pull her story apart with some investigation

Story 3: the husband is acting like ambulances don't exist. I know they're expensive in America but if you think someone is having a heart attack don't you call them an ambulance?! Especially as he wasn't even there, he had to drive over & THEN drive his mother to the hospital.
My attention seeking aunt tried this sort of thing once, trying to get my mother to drive hours to "help her". My mother just told her to call herself an ambulance if she genuinely thought she was dying. Though my mother added it sounded like food poisoning because that's what it was, which not surprising from my aunt. She gave every single family member food poisoning at different (often multiple) times.

@@Draxxdemsklounst no, it was more that she'd improperly store food & let it go bad but use it anyway. If egg-mayo had been open in the fridge for a week she'd STILL put it in a sandwich. Once I went to use some grated cheese & it was mouldy, I threw it out & she said I could have just used the non-mouldy bits 🤢

Hottake: story 3- if you need to test your husband on his reaction/decisions around your labour and delivery. You should already have filed divorce papers. I’m usually 99% of the time not divorce, in this case I would have filed those papers YESTERDAY.

She makes everything about her, even Mother’s Day she wants Hubs to be with her all day etc and my son’s birth she was cussing me out for not letting her be in the room because her son was going through so much that day (???)….everything. She wants/needs to be the number one woman in his life. Even refuses to buy anything off the registry I made because I ‘don’t know what baby actually needs’ like it’s not our second child 😂 Interested to see what she will do with this one 😅

Story 1, I’ve been on all sides of this. I prefer not to salt my food if possible because my grandma and mom are diabetic so they’re extremely sensitive to the taste of salt. I’d rather each person just salt to taste, though not all dishes can handle that, so sometimes I do separate portions. I’ve also had people cook for me that really do over season and it makes me sick. Buuuut I also can’t stand when someone tries to control or hover when I’m cooking. There was a way for both OP and boyfriend to handle this better.

    • @Draxxdemsklounst
      @Draxxdemsklounst 9 месяцев назад +3

Yeah, I don't put all the blame on the BF. He wasn't stopping OP from adding more salt, he just didn't want to hand it to her because he thought it was a mistake to put it in. So he wasn't blocking her from it, he just wasn't helping her do it either.
Also, he's right that others can add more to their food if they want, but he can't take it out of his once she puts it in.
Lastly, I like salt and use it all the time, but using salt, MSG, and soy sauce all in the same dish sounds like overkill to me.

    • @almartinez1894
      @almartinez1894 6 месяцев назад

I’m glad I found this take, I’m on both sides. It would have been so easy for him to ask her to set a portion aside for him without salt. But on the other hand, her making one dish without salt and everyone salting their own food isn’t a big deal. She could have simply told everyone “feel free to salt your food as you like because I didn’t put any.”

I had a stepmother who used to fake seizures all the time. One night, she came in the front door from smoking. It was just us. She "fell into a seizure" and just laid on the floor. Having seen her ACTUAL seizures, she was just laying there for a attention, chewing her tongue. No movement. I did nothing. She got up minutes later grumpy I did t give her attention. Hypochondriac. She died after leaving us and becoming homeless.
