DUDE! Dead on! Thanks for the video. I live in the Twin Cities and we have access to lots of gravel roads and have a long gravel history. I raced MTB and witnessed the death of NORBA. I raced on the road, but gave that up in 2005 when there were only 6 of us showing up for the USCF masters race. I never thought I'd race a bike again and then in 2012 I discovered gravel. My wife and I do many local events, most of which are are still FREE! The critics are typically focused on the pros who are relatively new to gravel. It's still your average Joe and Jane that make up the community I have grown to love. I hope people take your advise and give it a go. When you get a chance, check out some Minnesota gravel staples like Ragnarok, Spring Valley 100, Heywood, Filthy Fifty and Heck of the North to name a few...
Dude! Thank you for taking the time to comment. And it sounds like you absolutely get it. I enjoy competing, but more than anything, I like challenging myself and having fun. That's what it's all about! I will look into those races. I've only been to Minnesota once when I flew out of the airport, but I've heard it's absolutely beautiful.
Ty, Thanks for a really good video! Grassroots ride: Wild Goose Chase Gravel Grinder, Sumner, MO in late October. The race/ride directors Matt and Tiffany Burris do a great job! Many of the participants come back every year, just like the geese and ducks at nearby Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge!
Great list, brother. For me, I usually try and sign up for something that takes me well out of my comfort zone, and then tell everyone I know when it is. This will hold me accountable and forces me to train up for it, and then it results in a fitter me. Most gravel events are pretty low key, and more and more are turning to becoming segment based. No mass starts, ride with your peeps, and only hammer it during the timed sections. Good times, dude! Trying to get into Unbound this year. Two months until the lottery opens up. 🤞
Dude, I love the gravel duro type events. There was one close to where I'm at called Bleeding Kansas but I think the group that puts it on has discontinued it.
Good video!! Just got into gravel and loving it. Wife and I just did our first gravel race at Maple Leaf Gravel grind and enjoyed everything but the weather!!
Thank you, and awesome for you and your wife. The little grassroots races are a blast to do with your significant other. Maple Leaf is one of my favorites. Kim and I love that event and the brewery there.
@@TysRides yes, sir. Mostly amazing Road riding on the North Shore in Nassau County Long Island. Can ride the gravel bike to a lot of single track from my front door. And then a ton of gravel events within two hours of me.
More reasons to ride gravel: Seeing animals whilst riding gravel - deer, fox, coyotes, turtles, birds, possums, squirrels, and humans in different states of development and decay! Also breweries right on the trail! I once raced a tubboat pushing a barge up the Missouri while on the KATY!
In inland SoCal outside riding is starting back up after months of brutal summer heatwaves. Redlands stradra rosa in March normally is the closet for me. Then some some events in Temcula area starting up past couple years. Then of course BWR, rock cobbler and mammoth tuff with little bit of a day drive. Then the brand new insane trans san gabriel mountain range ride just done. More long time small-medium sized events up towards the coastal to the north Ojia/Stana Barbara area. My home location as some possible grassroots events made a route for each but no idea how to go from there to make them happen. Regional gravel events are more mixed surface with climbing regionally due to how the terrain is not built on yet or public lands. Can get very rocky and technical riding many spots with long climbs/descents not just rolling hardpack to some lose and or small stones elsewhere.
Yep! I'm very familiar with some of the races you mentioned. Unfortunately, it sounds like some of the events you mentioned are kinda more mixed terrain. The 28c tire bike probably won't cut it haha!
We rode the Collingwood Barn Rat 50 near Pretty Prairie ks this last weekend for their 1st event. Procedesse all go towards the local food bank. Please check out photos of the event and Barn. Hope to see you there next year to get our patches and have a fun time..... GO "SPEEDY HORNET LEGS"
As a pool player, I've played in tournaments alongside pros. It's not a race but still get to compete with and beside them. sorry to debunk your theory lol That and Bikes are dumb.

Thank you for the kind words! I have not heard of this event but will absolutely check it out.

Such a good video Ty! Dean is ready for his bike lessons!!!
Thanks, Brad!
A+ Ty ! Keep it up man. Big fan from Long Island NY
Thank you! I bet you got some beautiful riding up in Long Island.

Agree with #1, but you have to move beer and food higher on the list bro! Oreo Roubaix this weekend!
I think you might be right haha!
Can’t argue with any part of that list 👊
My man!

That is a VERY good point. I didn't even think of that!
Reason #7!!! Uncle JD approves!
Reason #11 you should race gravel: Uncle JD playing the guitar around the campfire...
I might just have to invest in a gravel bike and race. Also, bring back that mustache😂
Ha! I think you would enjoy it, Leroy! The stache will make an appearance or two for race season in the spring.

Hell yes! I haven't heard of this one. Going to look into it. Thank you!
GREAT video!
Thanks, mom. Love you!
Hey! Whereabouts in KC? Lee's Summit here - we need to ride!
Belton! A lot of fine gravel out this way!
Rock n roll brother. See you on the rocks
I got to come to
Your hood and do a race next year
LFG! We got lots of races in this gravel hood.

That's awesome! I'm not up on how pool competition works, lol. I imagine it is like that in FRISBEE golf too.

@@TysRides hahaha! I’ve also been to pro DISC GOLF events near here.
