    The instruction from NYMAA and in these videos is light years beyond what most JKD schools will teach you - I've attended many. If you're ever at a JKD school and they instruct you to stand with your strong side back, ask why. Bruce stood strong side forward. It was a fundamental difference in his art versus other arts. Part of Bruce's genius is that he did *everything* for a reason. To change something as fundamental as which hand is positioned forward changes everything about the art. It changes what tools are available and what techniques can be applied in every possible situation. The experts at NYMAA won't just teach you why your strong side should be forward, they'll guide you to use your lead hand in ways that are fluid and devastating to an opponent. I attended NYMAA for years while living in NYC. It was perhaps my favorite aspect of life in New York. If I could pick up the school and the people of NYMAA and move them to Texas, I would. It changed my life for the better and I'm happy to write about it here so it might make other peoples' lives better too.

    Dan lnosanto says he has never come across as anyone as powerful as Bruce Lee using the straight lead, real knockout power.

    I’ve been looking for a school
    that does JKD justice. As an MMA and traditional karate instructor I hate the bad rep jkd gets because most of it’s teachers teach it like win chun. I may drop by sometime soon because you guys are definitely legit. Please more videos.

    If you look at Bruce Lee doing the straight lead in the "Fighting Methods" book, you can see he lands the straight lead while his rear foot is still on the ground. Is that how you're supposed to do it? It makes sense in a physics standpoint, because if your leg is not there to brace you, the impact would push you back.

      Good ? and a topic for a future video. Different footwork with the straight lead and the jab. 👍

    even though going bladed decreases your chances of getting hit what I would say is if that there's a point directly in front of you you might not have time to get into a bladed stance unless you throw a kick or something

    • @NYMartialArtsAcademy
      @NYMartialArtsAcademy  3 года назад +2

      Yes there is some value in practicing in “no stance” or no lead. We practice it from time to time but like most practice from a fighting position. Most of the fight you’ll be in your fighting stance.

    I come back to look at videos like this every so often and other than being semi non telegraphic I wonder what's the point in not turning your punch over

      The extra rotation of the shoulder is allowed with the vertical fist. Look at Marvin Hagler drop people with the vertical fist (straight lead)
      Also look at Many Pacquio

    Btw I’d love to see how you guys counter leg kicks using the jkd stance. I’ve found a squarer stance makes checking easier

    Is the straight lead thrown in a some what upward trajectory kind of like an up jab?

    • @NYMartialArtsAcademy
      @NYMartialArtsAcademy  Год назад +1

      Great question. It can be if the hand is carried low. If the hand is at chest level it’s thrown straight in.

  • @taylorbee4010
    @taylorbee4010 3 года назад

    I'm possibly not educated in the martial arts enough to say this but I also have an issue with constantly having a bladed stance because really standing neutral is how you're probably going to be most of the time.
    The Bajan is cool I know how to do it but I think you should configure at least some of your techniques to come out just from neutral standing. You got to be able to throw everything from no stance at all.

    • @NYMartialArtsAcademy
      @NYMartialArtsAcademy  3 года назад

      You may be in “no stance” or a neutral stance but that leaves your groin exposed to kicks and your center like completely open.
      Most great fighters pick a southpaw or orthodox position.so they can guard the center line. Having a stance also places your lead hand closer to the opponent which gives you the ability to score easier.
      No stance can work but it’s just not as good as being bladed for the reasons mentioned above.

  • @zetareticulan321

    I know the ready stance is lead foot toe is inline with the arch of the rear foot, but at the end of the punch, does it become front toe lined up with rear toe? Or does it stay toe to arch from beginning to end?

    • @NYMartialArtsAcademy
      @NYMartialArtsAcademy  Год назад

      Great question. It starts lead to to rear heal or rear arch. Normally JKD practitioners go lead toe to rear heal.
      Safest way to keep your structure it to keep the feet aligned in same way it started. You can go one what we call “rail 2”
      We’ll make a video on this. It’s a great question.

    Can you use straight lead and cross then side kick.

    • @NYMartialArtsAcademy
      @NYMartialArtsAcademy  3 года назад

      Good question. Straight lead to sidekick works well because the way your hips are positioned. Cross to sidekick not as well. We would suggest hook to sidekick 👍
