It would’ve been nice to see/hear it at full speed, but my Son & I witnessed John Sweeney do a 180 into the concrete wall at turn 6 during practice on early Sat. 4/20. 😢 Heartbreaking to hear the tail end get destroyed. I remember my Son yelling at the driver, “That’s it, I could’ve done better than that, the morning just got started!” I know Sweeney heard it, too.
This was Great. The 1991 Pennzoil Lola is Awesome. I was at that event. The 1990 to 2000 era of Cart was some of the best racing. Thanks for the great video. Cheers.
Marshall, Thank you! That '80 Eagle is, for me, the pinnacle of creativity. But thank God for the safety improvements since. What a collection! What history! What am I doing here at work in NYC when I'd rather out there in Long Beach at play? Thanks for the ride!
I was there and dang near got goosebumps seeing the Pennzoil car cause initially I thought it was Mears car from 89 BUT then I realized it was John's car from 91... Andretti won that race after Mears had a problem late, I think he only led the last lap or 2...
Saw ( & heard ) the ‘66 BARDAHL Eagle T2G run at the old “vintage car runs” on Saturday morning, ( the day before the race at IMS ) back in 2016 or 17 ( before Covid ) it was the most amazing sounding Indycar I have ever heard. Open “bundle-of-snakes” headers on the Ford 4-Cam, as it went around the track….. OMG ( i tried to imagine 25 of these circulating IMS at the same time ) WOW what a sound. IMO the ‘66/67 Gurney T2G Eagle is the most beautiful Indycar ever designed. Amazingly.
Now that I've watched the whole video, I should clarify, "the first eagle he shows". The rest are great, just I love that whole style of the first one.
Marshall, you should have of mentioned who drove the #14 Eagle in that livery at Indianapolis in 1966 ... the great Lloyd Ruby. He was in 1st and running away from the field when his engine failed on lap 166. Lloyd would've also been good at Long Beach. He was one of the few of his era to come up through ovals yet prove to be a very talented road racer, winning the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona as well as Sebring in a GT40 along with co-driver Ken Miles.
Awesome and amazing beautiful race cars! Thank you! Excellent camera work and presentation. Marshal is looking like he's made a lot of progress on his weight loss journey. I wasn't sure it was him until the end with his outro. ☮️❤️🎶🏁
This tour takes me back to my time getting really interested in Indy cars during the '60s, and covering the 500 and some other races through the '70s, 80's and '90s.
Thanks Marshall and Racer. Just awesome. Twenty years from now when aeroscreen cars join these vintage cars I guarantee anyone describing them we’ll say “Yeah these are the aeroscreen cars we have today, great engineering, but over here are the cars I really want to show you!!!…”. Aeroscreen cars will never leave you breathless, and it’s a wonder how it will be able thrive under those circumstances. It’s poignant Marshall that around cars that were enormously dangerous and that resulted in many fatalities, that you say that they are “everything about LIFE”. People who prioritise safety in motorsport above all else shouldn’t be in positions of authority in motorsport. It’s not a life saving pursuit, it’s a life affirming pursuit, and to those like yourself with passion for the sport… “everything else is just waiting”. Hopefully those in charge will come to realise this before it’s too late.
A local (Boise, Id) racer, a name I'm sure older fans (and Marshall!) would recall, is Davey Hamilton. I remember seeing replays of the accident, and his feet were out in front, taking all the punishment as the car went airborne! Likely still has a limp to this day! Great post, MP! Really appreciate your insight! As you spoke of the '66 Eagle, I said 'All American Racers' moments before you did! Not bad for a 69 yr old! Thanks MP! Can't wait for the next post!! OG fan from way, way, way back!!! PS no Penske Sneva car? He and his bros raced here in the 60s and 70s!
The Pruett Firestone car shows just how much of an ego Pat Patrick had. His ego was so big, he had to have his name plastered over the car in big letters almost looking like he was the driver
As opposed to him just walking around, filming silent cars, just sitting in the garage?? Lemme guess, you already knew all this information, beforehand?
More diverse designs, yes. There's a reason we only have 2 or 3 chassis mfrs today. Too costly, with the requirements of today! Engage brain before putting fingers into gear.....
The foot box is so far in front of the the steering that I remember the adage...if you want to know who the drivers are in pit lane , just look for the guys with a limp!!!
I was there. Always seem to miss Marshall whenever I go to races 😏
The Dan Gurney for President sticker!! There is not enough like buttons for so much coolness
Damn, Marshall is so good at explaining this shit.
The Andretti Pennzoil car is about as iconic as you can get, and one of the most beautiful racecars ever.
So true!
Prepared by Doran Enterprises. 🏁

Those Panoz chassis are beautiful. I miss them.

I'd like to seea heads up lap time comparison between the DP07 and the IR18
this is sooo fantastic. The Lola and Panoz are my favorites. Such beast of engines and honestly better than the current Indycar
I love that Eagle so much.
Now that I've watched the whole video, I should clarify, "the first eagle he shows". The rest are great, just I love that whole style of the first one.
Brings back so many amazing memories. Thanks for putting this one together!
The last Eagle. Love the lateral and feet protection...
And the BLAT!!

I love the BLAT Eagles. A race car with its own back porch!
Vehicles? Beautiful cars! Where's the DW12? Definitely vintage too.
Thanks Marshall! Saw all of those race except the 66 Eagle. Thanks for the memories!

Definitely get some onboards!
Drivers from the 70's & 80's who suffered lower limb injuries walked with the "Indy shuffle" until rules moved the foot box behind the front axle.
Davey Hamilton comes to mind!
@@revvyhevvy Rick Mears too
Another opportunity to put current Indycars to shame in terms of visual and aureal beauty. Amazing cars!!

Thank You !
Yeah we’re gonna need onboard videos for each of these! Please and thank you Marshall!
Brilliant assembly of truly significant cars.
Great video!
Mr. Pruett, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!
Appreciate your tour and stories
Eagle & Panoz receive my vote

Enjoyed!!!! 🏁🏁
The Rutherford McLaren has a turbo the size of a melon!!
The 80’s into mid-90’s cars were positively stunning, and the fact they could massage 250mph didn’t do them any harm either.
Funny the Pat Patrick car had Firestone stickers on the Avon tires …
Todays cars look terrible compared to some of these beauties from the past 😍
Those are expensive wheel chocks. But, multi-purpose.
Will Nigel's Lola be present?
Technically, the current car chassis are eligible for historic racing
The Panoz and the Pennzoil John Andretti car got wrecked today I heard
Oriol Servià 231 races and 1 win, and that was given to him..
These old open-wheel cars are practically glorified Go-Karts
91 was 8th grade. oof
Those were the best days of Indy Cars. I stopped watching after they killed off CART. It's never been the same since.
The Pruett Firestone car shows just how much of an ego Pat Patrick had. His ego was so big, he had to have his name plastered over the car in big letters almost looking like he was the driver
Real open wheel racing cars vs today's crapwagons..
CART cars were the best. This spec series sucks.
Just don't let current drivers in these cars. They are not to be wrecked like their crapwagons.
Marshall talks too much
As opposed to him just walking around, filming silent cars, just sitting in the garage??
Lemme guess, you already knew all this information, beforehand?
You breathe too much. Plese stop
The older cars are so-so much more beautiful than the cookie cutter junk of today.
More diverse designs, yes.

Too costly, with the requirements of today!
