I got an oculus cv1 in 2019. I still use it. It has oled displays. Black in this headset isn't just artificially black, it _is_ black. The only things i could complain about is the limited tracking (good enough for seated), the FOV, and the weight balance (I'm weak). The resolution is fine for me, especially considering that my pc already struggled with its 1080x1200 per eye. 2nd hand, you can find this headset for less than 100 dollars. I would recommend that over anything, if you just want to try VR. The only headset that I think could be considered an upgrade for me, would require me to upgrade my PC, buy lighthouse tracking and new controllers, and a 1400 € headset. I think I'll stick with this thing.
i collect headsets, and have a majority of them on the market now. i started with a cv1, but let me tell you, the quest 3 is definately worth the upgrade. people say the blacks arent really black, but they are damn close to what the cv1 is and once you try the resolution of something like that its really hard to go back, its actually a game changer.
@@feather9658 i dont have 20/20 vision, but i also don't need glasses unless i'm trying to see small text from far away. i didn't know i had below-average eyesight until i was 15. while my vision causes effectively 0 difference in 99% of my daily life, it is just about enough for me to not make out the grid of pixels, preventing me from getting that screen door effect. i think i could still appreciate resolutions higher than what the CV1 has, but I don't think just that would be worth upgrading, assuming i had the ability to do so in the first place. i understand that CV1 isn't the best headset, but just from looking at the stats, it seems to me like most headsets aren't much better (apart from resolution). like the things I notice and find annoying with the CV1 ― brightness, colour depth, and FOV ― are qualities where you can't find a great difference between headsets. those that are much better in these qualities, are also much much more expensive than anything i could come close to affording.
@@Calebgamingg yeah I think 'low end' headsets are completely fine for vr. To me it's like having a car from the 90s and having a modern sports car. Like, yeah, the modern car is faster, has more features, and may be better in most ways, but it's also just super expensive. Like for the vast majority of people, they don't need the high end thing - the low end thing is enough to let you have a good experience. Though i will say the lenses of the rift do make me a bit motion sick.
I actually recently got the Meta Quest 2, and it is amazing. I get about 4-5 hours of play on it, which isn’t that bad. Also, there is pass through when you set boundaries, and pass through is compatible with some games (like First Hand). I have had my quest 2 since December of 2020 and it still works. My controllers may have bad tracking but that is from the countless times I have hit my walls when playing the Gorilla Game. My headset may have both left cameras not working and terrible battery life but that is probably the countless times it has been thrown of my head when I look up vigorously.
God damn so many people don't practice proper safety. Use the controller straps, set up your boundary correctly, tighten the head straps so your headset isn't loose. Is it really that hard? I have a quest 1 and it's still working very well. Cameras work, controllers work (other than some weird quest 1 tracking), and the only thing that suffered was battery life (it's 2 hours which is still good.)
@@thebluehero7319assuming you have a Q2 (and have a good pc), i highly recommend a Vive Pro 2. It's still extremely accurate, high res, while still being "affordable". You might want to invest in some of Valve's knuckles, though. You could try your luck with Pimax's inside-out tracking, but that traps you into pimax's funny controllers and quirks. No other PCVR headset is commonly sold with basestations, cables, and controllers for such a good price. Don't get tricked into getting an index. It's invalidated by today's options, the only real benefit are those amazing controllers, but you can get those separately, or find someone selling a vive set with them bundled. I personally got a Vive Pro 1 full kit + knuckles for $360, insane value. The Pro 2 full kit is around $500 used, which is what Vive sells the HMD new for (on a good day). Hope this helps :3
Honestly I'd still take a valve index over every other option. It's a little behind sure, but outside in tracking is king and you will never convince me otherwise. If valve ever makes another outside-in VR headset it will be king for a while after it releases

reason i still pick my valve index over quest headsets 1. headset battery, no need to worry if it’s hooked up to my pc. Only battery to worry about is controller battery. Which is still good for a long 2 sessions. 2. IN MY OPINION, pc has a better vr library 3. I know people are gonna mention quest link cables and air link. I have great WiFi and still had tons of issues with air link and with quest link cables, they were easy to break. Valve index cable is hidden behind the face mesh so not easy to break. 4. Controllers are finger tracking Then again, this is my opinion only, just sharing, and you’re free to share yours.
Here is why I think quest 2 is better than most if not all headsets. 1.price. it's price is amazing when you consider the price of other headsets and al.ost all the other headsets do the same thing quest does. 2.Good battery life. If you use the quest 2 it will last a LONG time before it dies off the only reason it dies fast is because you play while it's on the charger making the battery overheat and become worse. 3.while quest 2 best game is a monkey game most of the games they have come for cheap and most of the games on PC or PlayStation cost 30+ (you could say the same for quest 2 but almost every console has games over 30 bucks.) 4.Sturdy. if you hit it multiple times it will survive those couple of hits and even go on for a couple of more years. The only way you would possibly break it is if you hit it with half or all your strength. 5.not only is it cheap but it can do what valve index does (connecting to VR on steam and it turns extremely good with good wifi.
@@DuzEdits 100% agree with price, but in my experience, battery and sturdiness was terrible. Controllers broke incredibly easy and mine had terrible battery life, i could only play for a couple of hours, no i did not have it connected while playing, never did until battery started becoming a big issue, valve index is a pcvr headset meaning it is solely connected to my pc, doesnt have its own battery. So the only battery for me to worry about is the controllers which are a lot less lasting that the quest batteries but in comparison, i can play a couple hours after a quest would usually die then my controllers would die meaning technically, longer gaming sessions without charging. Then again, my opinion and experience, may be totally different for you Edit: also i always tried wireless connectivity, my wifi is amazing but when i did any sort of wireless steamlink, it was terrible, always had to use a short cable and the longer ones were so much less durable and had to buy several of them each time. In the 1-2 years ive had my valve index, nothing has had a problem, has been broken, nothing, on top of all that, it was in Used condition when I bought it.
On quest you can also charge while playing and go for a cable, for a power bank you own anyways or some kind of elite strap. PCVR runs perfectly fine for me on quest with virtual computer.

Surprised the index was in the convo. I’m not really bothered by the wire tbh, I just like being able to play in the dark and have good quality. Minus the wire having to be replaced after having it for awhile, the index is actually good in my opinion :)
literally. its like the jack of all trades in the vr headset business. i don't need a hundred games, I don't need lightning fast performance, I don't need to be able to see my house in ultra hd. i especially don't get the colored passthrough, like the black and white is just enough, I'm trying to escape my dirty house for a reason lol, I don't want to get into a game then see my dirty house again lol

@@feather9658 i dont have 20/20 vision, but i also don't need glasses unless i'm trying to see small text from far away. i didn't know i had below-average eyesight until i was 15.
while my vision causes effectively 0 difference in 99% of my daily life, it is just about enough for me to not make out the grid of pixels, preventing me from getting that screen door effect. i think i could still appreciate resolutions higher than what the CV1 has, but I don't think just that would be worth upgrading, assuming i had the ability to do so in the first place.
i understand that CV1 isn't the best headset, but just from looking at the stats, it seems to me like most headsets aren't much better (apart from resolution).
like the things I notice and find annoying with the CV1 ― brightness, colour depth, and FOV ― are qualities where you can't find a great difference between headsets.
those that are much better in these qualities, are also much much more expensive than anything i could come close to affording.
cv1 is still one of my favorite headsets of all time.

@@Starahh Shut up bro you play gorilla tag like a retoddler
reason i still pick my valve index over quest headsets
1. headset battery, no need to worry if it’s hooked up to my pc. Only battery to worry about is controller battery. Which is still good for a long 2 sessions.
2. IN MY OPINION, pc has a better vr library
3. I know people are gonna mention quest link cables and air link. I have great WiFi and still had tons of issues with air link and with quest link cables, they were easy to break. Valve index cable is hidden behind the face mesh so not easy to break.
4. Controllers are finger tracking
Then again, this is my opinion only, just sharing, and you’re free to share yours.
3.while quest 2 best game is a monkey game most of the games they have come for cheap and most of the games on PC or PlayStation cost 30+ (you could say the same for quest 2 but almost every console has games over 30 bucks.)
4.Sturdy. if you hit it multiple times it will survive those couple of hits and even go on for a couple of more years.
Then again, my opinion and experience, may be totally different for you
Edit: also i always tried wireless connectivity, my wifi is amazing but when i did any sort of wireless steamlink, it was terrible, always had to use a short cable and the longer ones were so much less durable and had to buy several of them each time. In the 1-2 years ive had my valve index, nothing has had a problem, has been broken, nothing, on top of all that, it was in Used condition when I bought it.
@@duckthatmemes i agree with you 100%

Surprised the index was in the convo. I’m not really bothered by the wire tbh, I just like being able to play in the dark and have good quality. Minus the wire having to be replaced after having it for awhile, the index is actually good in my opinion :)
