    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  4 года назад +1

      I'm sorry but I don't have a great deal of experience in Humanitarian Logistics. I'll ask amongst my team. But I would expect the benefits in labour saving and cost to be the same as in any Logistics operation really. Certainly back in the 'base' country. Once in the field in more remote areas, the advantage would be limited I think.

    Do not gauge productivity off of lines picked unless for some reason every line is always the same qty. A line typically can represent 1 unit or 1000 units. One day you could pick 10000 lines and use no OT and another day pick 4000 lines and use OT, this doesn’t always represent an issue, unit qty at the line level could be substantially higher or vary. You need to measure based off on units, cartons, pallets, etc. picked and have your picking rate to accurately gauge your productivity and efficiency. Overall great content.

    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  3 года назад +1

      Yes lines can be a tricky one, as can orders (different sizes). So it's important to match the KPI to the operation.

    This video is very helpful as it not confirmed what I already knew but also made me appreciate other aspects of warehouse management I had not paid much attention to especially with regards to labour cost, maybe because we never had to work overtime and it was not a pressing issue with my company. It is valuable knowledge, though I hope I will not have to apply it in practice. LOL

    Hi Mal,
    Thanks for sharing this presentation, very informative.
    At around 16 mins you mention using some software to input transactions and getting advice about warehouse design, may I ask what software you are referring to?

    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  2 года назад

      I think Mal is referring to warehouse ‘slotting’ software. Some of this also lets you measure productivity Benchmarks.

      Some of the major challenges of ECom warehousing are (1) small orders, maybe only 1 or 2 lines per order, so high cost to pick and pack. (2) changing stock profile, so a need to flexibility in pick locations and slotting.

    So many company's bring in these Warehouse " gurus" that most seem to be from England , South Africa , Ireland .. and folks think thier charasmatic and educated . They are actors .Workers and management become enamoured by thier accent as if they know everything . The insight this clip clearly acknowledges is the clear admonishment of the actual warehouse mainstream workers contribution to the success of these maga companies. Not a metion of it. Actually he hinted to the opposite. Pay people the least amount possible and get results .

    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  17 дней назад

      Sadly in many countries, labour cost is the major cost of a warehouse operation. Hence the drive for automation and robotics. Sometimes 'progress' has a negative side and we need to be aware of that.

    what type of wms do u recommend for a starter distributor business

    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  2 года назад

      That is very hard to answer for a number of reasons. (1) We remain totally vendor neutral and cannot recommend specific systems. (2) The market is constantly changing in terms of vendors and functionality, and (3) Every business is somewhat unique in their requirements. To put that in perspective, a WMS can cost anywhere from $25,000 to $2,000,000+ Message me on linked in and I can probably put you in touch with one of my specialist consultants who could at least give you some pointers. www.linkedin.com/in/robobyrne/

    What is Benchmarking of warehouse operation ?

    • @supplychainsecrets
      @supplychainsecrets  3 года назад

      As with any Benchmarking, it is comparing one warehouse performance against a ‘group’ of other similar warehouses. Typically it would measure comparisons of cost, productivity and accuracy.
