Odogaron felt like a new monster that truly took advantage of the tech advancements in World. The way it prowls around and chains moves together is very fluid, while still having predictable combos and attck opportunities. Unfortunately I have to agree with your assessment in the description, it just can't seem to be able to hit the player at all. I remember thinking that its big tail flip was scary the first time I fought it considering how strong and fast it looks, yet I don't think it hit me ever. With a few adjustments it could be a lot harder and better imo
Claggers happen too often, which is the only thing I really have an issue with, other than that I've always been fine with some aspects of the Clutch Claw. I wrote a whole theory on how, for 3 games in the series now, the developers have been really confused on how to balance a single skill, Weakness Exploit, (and Crit Boost to an extent) which led to a lot of different attempts at balancing other aspects of the game around that skill instead of nerfing/balancing the skill itself (No affinity boost in 3U, Purple sharpness being weaker since GU, and two whole entirely new mechanics, the Clutch Claw and Tenderizing, in Iceborne). They gave up in Rise/Sunbreak and left both skills as they are without trying to balance them anymore.
Hopefully MH6 keeps World's motion values for hammer. Every move has its use, even Spinning Bludgeon in certain cases. (I've seen Alatreon runs use it.) Upswing in World has slightly more MV than the last hit of Charged Brutal Big Bang, and it makes a lot more sense balance-wise because it requires standing still in an era of MH where headsniping is de-emphasized by more fluid monster movement. Then it got nerfed in Rise and relegated to functioning only as a Water Strike follow up. Charged Follow-Up has crazy MV for its place in the moveset, and I really like that because it makes the lvl 1 charged swing useful. Then it got nerfed and slowed down in Rise. Rise Strength Hammer is fun, but two years of nothing but lvl 3 charges with the occasional brutal upswing has really worn me down. I will say that Water Strike plays perfectly into Hammer's headhunting nature, and I hope that returns in some form too.
ah man i gotta go back and fight this monster more. it's pretty easy now but i remember i had to fight this thing a whole 60 times to get a gem back in base world... lunagaron is cool and all but i'll always have a soft spot for this one. rise seemed like it would have been a perfect fit for both odogaron's gear and a little refresh of his moveset. oh well.
Can agree on Him being very avoidable. But the design and fight itself. I like that we have more agility advantageous monsters. Not everything needs to be the size of a diablos. (looking at you nargacuga, who in my eyes was ruined by iceborne scaling him in size and dropping his speed.) Tobi kadachi is an actual menace in sunbreak. Odo can just be as dangerous, it's one of only few monsters to inflict bleed. I hope we get more fast moving monsters in the future. On a scale from 0 to 100%, do you think Odogaron will be in mh6? Hypothetically if they are gonna bring alot of popular monsters in Odo would be one of them.
Would you ever consider doing a gear progression guide from base game into iceborne? I've been looking for one but all the ones I see say to use defender gear and to me that takes the fun out of it . Since you're a master hammer user I thought It'd be cool to get your input
I have played through World and Iceborne only once, and it was more than 3 years ago. My gameplay only picks up on a single playthrough of more than a thousand hours, so I really have no idea anymore on what progression for weapons in this game is like, even for Hammer, I'm sorry.
I talk about it in the description. It's more balanced than Sunbreak's Strength Hammer by a landside, having a moveset with zero useless moves, and well balanced motion values that make it really strong in this game, and creative.
>clearly clutching the head
>attaches to arm
Ah yes

YES YES YES!! please keep these coming!
I hope Odogaron's back in the next game.
Sometimes I wanna go back to Iceborne, but then I remember the clutchclaw and I die a little inside

Great run as always but what is that layered helmet? i love it
This is one of the female Kulve Taroth's helm armors.

@dynamo_lynn ah I see thanks for the response I appreciate it
Back with Iceborne I see 👀
Makes me curious on your take on IB's hammer combat. It feels more intuitive don't you think? 🤔
