I prefer a board without notation, cause when I'm studying positions or working with a tactics book with both black and white pieces I don't have to flip the board to match the notations, only the pieces.
    As always, great video ♟️

That's actually a good point! For that reason I would agree no notation is better! Thank you for watching!

I enjoyed your review, so I bought one of these sets for myself. I'll use it as an analysis board in my favorite coffee shop. Thanks for the great videos!

Very nice set. I prefer a dark brown wood colour for the black pieces. Thanks.

Very good review. Can you make more reviews about wooden travel chess sets ? I think i like them better than tournament sized chess sets.

I got this set from Chess Baron in the UK at a nice discount via UPS yesterday as I was moving into my new digs and it's a little beast!! The finish on the board and pieces is beautiful and the shaped slots on the bottom grip each individual piece snugly so that they don't fall out. I just ordered a DGT 960 travel-sized chess clock to go with it. With both, I would love to play a serious match on the Shinkansen N700 bullet train in Japan!!

Is the board totally flat when opened and laid on a table, or is there any incline, even small, from the center where the seam is?

hey, i’m not sure if you figured out the answer to your question. another video review i watched said there is a very subtle slope. it’s by design so the pieces don’t snag when moving from one half of the board to the other.

Another wonderful video review Alex! I liked the outdoor setting, even if it was a little foggy. I thought the sound quality was more than fine. Keep up the good work. As with most online purchases, it’s hard to fully understand what you’re getting. Some of my favorite parts are the chess pieces themselves and your description of all the little details. Thanks again for taking your time to produce these reviews. God bless.

    Two (plus one) improvements:
    1) For travelling, imo, it definitely needs a storage bag so the chessboard doesn't get scratched.
    2) It needs some kind of notch to help you open the board against the magnetic pull.
(3)) I agree with saving costs by making the pieces less detailed. All the pieces look fine to me, except the rook, which I find a little too distracting because it doesn't have the battlements. It's just round at the top. Just my personal opinion.

It had a black velvet bag which I forgot to show, it wasn't much but went over the board and would serve well to protect it from scratching. The notch I think would help for sure. I think the rooks could use the separations but proportionately they are well sized to the rest of the set.

Oh, there actually is a bag? Great! Thanks for sharing the information.
Well, it'd be easy to use a Dremel and carve a notch yourself. Maybe I'll do that if I ever get myself this travel chess set...
Unfortunately you can't Dremel the separations of the rook because the wood is tinted.
Haha, I love making modifications. 😅

Completely agree with your comment about magnet, along the connecting surfaces; to keep the board fixed open. I have always thought this about folding chess sets.
I even modified a board purchase, to magnetically remain open. The only thing is requires far more than just the small number of magnetcs, which it takes to keep the board closed.
Does anyone know if a chess board, that can be magnetically fixed open, is even available for sale? There hasn’t been much improvements in portable sets….over the last 100+ years.

Never understand why Americans stick with inches, but when referring to 1 and a quarter inches, revert to a decimal format, i.e. 1.25 inches. Also, given the logic of chess, surely it's a logical move to dump inches and move to decimal measurements. ;-)
p.s. love you channel, and have bought 3 chess sets on the strength of your reviews.
