Update: my body and mind feels best when doing some sort of body movement every ~5 minutes. That's easy for me as I usually work standing up. Your optimal time window to move your body may be longer, i.e 20-30 min. I will be publishing my full conversation with Kjetil in the coming weeks for those of you that want a more technical review of Kjetil identifying the problem and treatment plan. Stay tuned.
For sure, would be great to see more instruction on the exercises. I’m doing as much of the protocol as i can afford. I don’t want to live forever. I’ll settle for 300 years 😉

I was on your website and couldn't believe all the information you gave and step by step how to's and all for absolutely nothing but the time it took to read through it. Priceless. THANK YOU!
I struggle with very large breasts. Years ago paid 8,500 at U.F. plastic surgery residency program to reduce from a eee to a b... the pain and poor posture and embarrassment is a real issue for me. After surgery I was told Im a DDD not a B. So for years still no relief. You are so motivating and positive. Im going to look past the issue and work on my posture again. Thank you Bryan.❤
Bryan, I cannot thank you enough for your efforts. You are such an awesome inspiration for me and this is currently changing my life. I am an engineer and I love your analytical approach. All the time I think people on youtube are just some wannabe gurus, but you are different. You are proving your results with evidence and inspiring me to start to look into research papers as well, measure myself, keep track of my data, ... This is currently helping me so much to stay on track and improve just a bit every day. Again... Thank you so much for everything that you do! I wish you all the best! 😊
No, he is providing huge amount of data for the human body. What it's possible to achieve and extend. This is kinda what Phds and professors do, they scratch surfaces to discover new stuff. Bryan is kinda doing that to the human body. Using the potential to the possible maximum.@@mooncat.787
Hey, i just want to thank you for providing everything you've learned over the years for free. You're an amazing human being and a role model for many. Again, thank you!
I found the best solution for this and it doesnt involve any exercise protocols. I sleep on the floor, on my back. What this has done for my posture and body in general is incredible and it literally happens while I sleep. Im not saying the stuff that Bryan is doing doesnt work, but sleeping on the floor will do the job and with zero effort on your part.
I work as a UX designer on a tech team. A lot of these cues are ones that I've included in monthly newsletters to my entire organization. I find it incredibly challenging that corporate wellness packages don't (generally) include some sort of gym membership or tips on how people can be physically healthier. So I took it upon my self to share tips just like this. Movement is medicine.
Unfortunately, going to the gym will often make back pain worse because of poor posture while performing exercises. 99% of "posture" and "chronic back pain" experts on RUclips just repeat "strengthen and stretch"... I've tried it all and continue to suffer. If I've done all that work and come up empty, I don't think we can blame companies for not helping. They would just be wasting their money on things that don't work.
@@LeoFrenchie At the end of the day, having some sort of wellness plan to address any shortcoming is paramount. Sure, you can go to the gym and make your back pain worse if you move beyond your range of motion with a weight your body isn't prepared for. BUT at the same time, you can improve back pain (to use your example) by performing said exercises correctly. If you're untrained, uncoached, or misinformed on what to do, I can see how you might not be making progress.
@@robschilke your message mentioned gym membership & tips. A gym membership doesn’t usually come with a personal coach. Tips in a newsletter or RUclips video only go so far. Misinformed is anyone talking about “tips”, “stretches”, and “workouts” for chronic back pain. Why do you think millions suffer of this and videos about the solutions have millions of views? It’s not about people not looking for a solution. Physical therapists are growing like wild flowers. They’re not helping either. If you’re lucky enough to have found a solution for your pain, I’m glad for you. But after months and months of searching, watching, visiting doctors of all sorts and personal trainers, I have to tell you that the solution cannot come in any kind of “wellness package” because what they would include in it would not work. At least not for the majority.
Jaw/mouth posture I found is also very important. I clenched my jaw a lot as a kid, and I swear it contributes to added stress, anxiety, and in general is just a worse shape for your face. Doing facial stretches and learning to unclench my jaw (as well as catch myself when I'm doing it unintentionally) was a big win for my mental health and self image.
@@ocoossss I don't really know enough to feel comfortable saying anything definitive. But if you feel a lot of tension/stress in your jaw, I'd recommend looking into facial stretches. The whole situation modern society has with our mouths/jaw is strange. Worth looking up "why do modern humans need braces" if you're curious.
Holy shit bro I've been doing this since I was a kid and ive been questioning why i do it for the past year and cant find anything but i finally found someone, bro i dont know about the shape face being worse though because i have an insane jawline now without ever even mewing in my life but it definetely does add stress and anxiety i also am trying to stop
Thanks so much Bryan! learnt it the hard way, and what helped me were - 1. conscious relaxing 2. ear and shoulder in one line 3. upward stretch with chin tuck 4. isometric exercises hope this helps someone.
Love the content Bryan. I can truly feel you are trying to have a positive impact on the world. You are the kind of influence we need in our modern society. Kind regards, Simon

I'm a 23-year-old young man in Korea and I'm watching your blue print project closely. In Korea, you were introduced through various media, and I was very impressed by your activities. I am implementing some of them through the information on your website. Thank you for giving me so much inspiration and vision. Your valuable experiments and your desire to help others are a great help.
Completely agree with you. Posture is something that is overlooked and not thought about very often, even in fitness industries. Form is discussed, but posture as the basis for how your entire body functions is not. I recently started learning about how to correct my posture and how to move correctly… Oh my God it has been life-changing!
Never thought about posture effecting blood flow, this is great info! Thanks Bryon for sharing the results of your studies and helping your fellow humans.
I was skeptical about whether correcting my posture could actually improve the feeling of blood flowing, until I tried it. So, following the instructions in the video, I adjusted my posture to achieve the best alignment and then focused on sensing the blood flow. Surprisingly, I could indeed feel an increased blood flow. I like it. This video has set me on a journey towards better posture. Thank you, Brian!
I watch your channel regularly and at 63 I’ve already been practicing many of these things for the past 10 years. Except this thing about my posture which has always been an issue. That, and stretching is something I hope to work on.
Love this video. - Adds value by telling us what we can do to get results like you. - Actionable - Short. Who has time, in this world of content overload. - it's not a "trying to be a Kardashian" video, that is all about the story and your emotional experience, rather than the "meat" of your Blueprint protocol. Great job 👏 Love it!
Hi Bryan, I had the same problem... I found walking everyday really helped while focusing on my upper back posture . Using videos and mirrors is very helpful... after several months it becomes more natural and not something you 'need to constantly work on'. I also did the exercises and such, but the walking is way better since posture is not static. I am about 9 mos into fixing my posture. So hopefully this helps.
There is no "bad" posture and having an upright posture does not fix any back pains/problems. The only thing this changes is how people perceive you, as it's a sign of confidence. Besides this, there is not a single health benefit of having an upright posture.
I've been following Kjetil's work for years. We had a few skype sessions a couple of years ago and he's helped me with some of my own problems. I nearly fell off my chair seeing him on your channel, he deserves more recognition. Really awesome.
Great video Bryan - would love to see you bring in one of the more prominent RUclipsrs that are trained in Postural Restoration Institute's techniques, as the approach is unique and myself and many others have seen amazing, very quick results with them. Someone like Conor Harris, Zac Cupples, Neal Hallinan, Waughfit, or Chaplin Performance (or even the OGs Ron Hruska or Bill Hartman)! They may even be able to improve your breathing pattern/strategy (you could even consider a trip to the Hruska Clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska to get your posture analyzed from literally every possible angle and input, including jaw position, visual system, autonomic nervous system state, shoe feel/ground sense, etc.). Of course Kjetil Larsen from MSK Neurology is a great practicioner and content creator too!
@@BryanJohnson Looks like Zac made a video analyzing the approach you detailed in this video, as well as identified some potential areas of improvement/alternate strategies that could be more effective in certain cases. Very informative: ruclips.net/video/xmE4GAgOHTk/видео.html
I've just started looking at your videos in the last few weeks and have noticed every time, especially when you invite people into your home, how perfect you posture is. We notice it more when you are moving around and standing face to face with your visitors.
This is the push the I needed. I am 6,4 and I always look down on people, phone, food, screens, etc. I will work on it and see if I can fix it. Thank you so much for your work
I first saw this video a few months ago and it really helped and motivated me to improve my posture. I now have less neck& back pain, feel more confident and my jaw looks better because I got rid of that constant downward tilt of my head that softens the jawline. So it’s one of the few RUclips videos that actually had a positive influence on my life!
THANK YOU! This is what I was asking some time ago when you mentioned this problem for the first time. Myself, and many arround me have the same/similar issue
5:15 ive always had reasonably good posture. Like you mentioned, people are gonna go out of their way to tell you and boi do they. However, in my experience they take personal offence to it. The amount of times I have had strangers asking if i think im better than them because my back is straight 🤦🏼♀️
Bryan thank-you so much for sharing such specific steps to improve posture. I’m 53 and I started mewing to improve my posture, jaw structure and breathing and I see such a difference in just 6 months. I can’t wait to implement these exercises as well. You motivate me to be a better version of myself 🤗
I really appreciate the information and advice this video gave. As someone young enough to feel like this posture problem shouldn’t be mine, it started long ago and I have been struggling to fix it for years. Knowing the solution is going to be painful and at least someone tells you their experience but that it will get better if you put some simple effort into it really helped me say I can try- rather that giving up because it’s “too hard.” I especially like this video because, while I know next to nothing about the guy in it, I I know he wants healthy over anything and he noted his struggles to get to where he’s got better posture. He seems legit and I can appreciate the understanding for my posture issues.
Thanks for this. Looking forward to the full conversation. Past 6 months, I started on improving my posture because it got so bad that my shoulder would hurt after standing for over 20mins. Sore muscles but worth it!
Bryan, holding the phone in the up position is a big key. 👍 BUT if you support your raised elbow with your other hand, in front of you, you'll use your shoulder muscles less, so it's easier to maintain. (Plus you won't get tight traps) Good on you
please more about good posture! i started to work on my posture so hard because i had horrible headaches due to the turtle neck. Trust me i have so much attention from women now due to a good posture.
Your rate of aging is 0.69, so for every day that passes you age by ~16.5 hours, or you gain 7.5 hours a day with this protocol. It would be interesting to make a video breaking down how that compares to the time required for the protocol compared to someone who ages at a rate of 1 day per day.
Good video for people to see. I was having back problems and after a year finally found a clinic that could help me! My spine in my low back was too straight and my neck was straight and forward. I needed chiropractic adjustments to line my spine back up and decompress it so one of my disks could heal. But, I needed exercises at home every single day to correct my posture/lordosis. I had no energy even because my muscles were protecting my spine and in a constant spasm. It’s been life changing for me and even my digestion improved. The spine protects the communication to the whole body so it’s very important. My x rays show correct spine curvature and perfect horizontal alignment now and I feel it!! It’s great!
I have been flatfooted my whole life which caused me a great deal of discomfort and alignment issues. I've recently been exercising my back muscles to help with the pain issues my feet has caused and they have helped, but I tried your posture tech and within 1 workout of 5x11, I felt my left side pop into alignment And my stance straighten out. I damn near cried, for the first time in forever I have somewhat of an arch in my foot without having to force it. I'm so grateful to have found your channel God bless ❤🙏🏾
Head thread, phone to face level, movement snacks, shoulders holstered back and down, face palm resistance exercise, but I wasn't aware of the 1st strengthening exercise with weights - although I am doing a CES certification so it may have it. The main thing is to avoid things that are bad for your body which affect posture long-term, such as hunched head phone use leading to tech/nerd neck as mentioned, excessively big pillows (becoming pillowless while sleeping is an effortless posture hack), chest focused exercise causing pec tightness while neglecting back muscles causing their stretching which combined lead to forward rounded shoulders. Additionally, there is a holistic element to "poor posture", as it needn't be just the head/neck/upper back area. Even if it is, that may be from compensations due to problems down the kinetic chain, such as lumbar lordosis (swayback), tight hips and glutes, knee issues, or foot issues from improper footwear or weak feet causing excessive inversion (supination) or eversion (pronation). Also, there is no single good posture that's "good" to the point of perfect that one needs to stay in it static all of the time. Being comfortable in your body and dynamic is more important overall; while, again, avoiding excessively holding positions which long-term will compromise your muscles and skeletal structure leading to pain as well as poor posture, movement, and aesthetics.
Bryan this really opened my eyes, my posture is terrible and i kinda just got used to it. Been really into nutrition, longevity and all this stuff but you kinda rekindled my flame to explore even further, im doing this maybe in a little bit more natural sense still but this channel is really intresting and even entertaining. Great work!
Both of the pictures in the thumbnail picture are bad posture. The less obvious second posture issue is too much arch in the lower back (lumbar hyperlordosis and anterior pelvic tilt). Love your content Bryan, I think what you are doing for yourself and for the world is amazing!!!
@@BryanJohnson Thank you for the reply! I hope you see my other comment about the 2 exercises, I would love to be able to give my 2 cents about it and have the opportunity to pitch in with Blueprint!

thank you for sharing this! I agree it's so important but it's not commonly addressed! I catch myself using poor posture often, now I have some more motivation to work on it. I loved your point at the end about how powerful it is socially.
I’m only 19 but I can’t remember a time where I didn’t struggle with my posture. My muscles are so weak they can barely keep me up , I even went to some physical therapy to see if I could fix it but it didn’t improve. Since I’ve started having a more consistent workout routine it’s gotten better but my shoulders are still rounded and my neck sticks out . As a girl it’s really hurt my confidence because it’s hard to feel pretty when you look like the hunchback of Notre dame.💀so I’ll try these out and see how it works
I have bad posture because of the lack of confidence so my hunching has gotten really bad. It is hard to remember to fix my posture but something I have been doing for the last couple of days is using the "pointing and calling" system Japanese train workers use. I read it from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear but basically every time I notice I am slouching, I say "I am slouching" and consciously straighten my back.... hope this helps some people!
That's crazy, I have been trying to fix my posture for years and been trying all the common exercises mentioned on youtube but they never worked for me. Recently I had a terrible stiff aching in my shoulders that wouldn't go away and I just started doing stretches and exercises based on whether they felt good and gave relief, none of the usual exercises. And one that gave me most relief is the first exercise you mention, which I just made up at the time. So seeing the exercise I made up mentioned here is kinda crazy to me since I hadn't heard anyone mention this exercise before. It's validating, and even though I still haven't fixed my posture yet at least the pain is gone. Hopefully the posture will eventually change as I keep it up. I look forward to a more in depth video on the exercises you do for posture.

Personally, Alexander technique has been my greatest help in understanding posture. One of the main points is that posture as such is about the whole of your organism. What is important is the degree of freedom.
@@BryanJohnson I am now 30 years old, and I already notice slouch. First of all, I put a picture of the correct spine in the screensaver of the phone. When I pick up the phone, I already straighten up. Thank you for the video. It's very relevant
I’ve been really getting into calisthenics this past year and I realized that my poor posture has made advanced skills extremely hard due to me having weak muscles in certain areas. I’ve always just tried to force my body in a straight line and that has been painful and unsuccessful. Doing these exercises in just three weeks has made such a huge difference.
@@sl4983 I don’t use a program just learning on my own. If you wanna start push ups, pull ups, dips for upper body. Squats then harder squat variations when you get more mobility and strength, lunges and glute bridges. Do that for about 6 months to a year and make sure you stretch well before. Just look up stretches on RUclips if you don’t know. After 3 months you’ll start noticing changes. 6 months huge difference. 1 year and you’ll be amazed with how you feel and look. Also look up some basic core strength exercises. Might seem repetitive at first but don’t push it and try and move on to more advanced exercises if your bodies not ready, will only result in injuries. Good luck!

@@ashleychildresss you should try sleeping on the floor then. I've no doubt it'll do wonders for your back pain and posture
@@LeoFrenchie Salut ça fait plaisir de voir un français ici mdr, je regarde cette video car j'ai des douleurs quand je tourne ma tete vers la droite. Jaw/mouth posture I found is also very important. I clenched my jaw a lot as a kid, and I swear it contributes to added stress, anxiety, and in general is just a worse shape for your face. @@ocoossss I don't really know enough to feel comfortable saying anything definitive. But if you feel a lot of tension/stress in your jaw, I'd recommend looking into facial stretches.

Interesting comment. How was Bryan Johnson viewed by the Korean media?
I literally am a posture junky. I think it's one of the most underrated practices in life. Period.
Go on?
Completely agree with you. Posture is something that is overlooked and not thought about very often, even in fitness industries. Form is discussed, but posture as the basis for how your entire body functions is not. I recently started learning about how to correct my posture and how to move correctly… Oh my God it has been life-changing!
And where had you got it justifying your “posture” on RUclips
Most kids today overuse and don't know what the word "literally" means or stands for.

The string analogy is incredible… its such a simple idea but it instantaneously puts me into perfect looking posture!
I learned that in ballet class; it helps a lot! Works with balance too.
Thank you for going over this. My posture is extremely bad and this video was perfect timing.
Thanks Bryan for providing your learning for free online
I was skeptical about whether correcting my posture could actually improve the feeling of blood flowing, until I tried it. So, following the instructions in the video, I adjusted my posture to achieve the best alignment and then focused on sensing the blood flow. Surprisingly, I could indeed feel an increased blood flow. I like it. This video has set me on a journey towards better posture. Thank you, Brian!

I love this kind of practical advice that one can use everyday… thank you for posting this, Bryan!
