Basically every Chinese in Southeast Asia Archipelago(Malaysia, Indoensia, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei) are Hokkien or Cantonese. Mostly.
      From the Southern China.
That's why these ppl call some stuff that originated from China with Hokkien words.
Like for example "tea" word. In Southeast Asia aechipelago, we call it "teh" because it is from Hokkien way to call it. They call it as "te".
Japan n Korea call it "cha" because they got that word from Northern China language. In the northern China, they call it as "cha" or "chay". Maybe.
China have a big influence for the Eastern part of the world. Japan, Indonesia, even to Persia.
Edit: Japanese n Korean itself are Chinese that migrated to these regions. For Japanese case, some of them mixed with the local people, the Ainu people. And adapted to the cold region and also archipelago.
So that's why Japanese kinda different from normal Chinese.
Some of Japanese have bigger eyes for example.

Biriyani is a curry/rice dish... But the spices and so on are integrated into a rice mixture, that is served with some other things with it. It is a dish in the spirit of fried rice, in the sense its good to do to use ingredients and left over rice up for a cheap easy meal, but rather than the typical Fried Rice condimants (soy sauce, sesame oil etc)... You would use a ground spice flavour profile things like coriander, cumin, tumeric etc. Biriyani is worth a try, it is nice.

If I can speak from a Non-Japanese perspective about the Japanese for a moment. I feel when the Japanese people discover something new, (Ramen, Fried Rice, forms of Technology, really ANYTHING) The Japanese have a cultural focus for perfection that few other countries can match and they always make things their own in unique ways. I've wanted to travel for so long now, I'm 32 years old, and Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan, are my first stops if travel is ever an option for me. These stoves are more UK/European. In the USA and Canada, a gas stove will have the knobs/buttons on the front of it and usually sold as a single unit with the oven/broiler.

The stove with knobs on the right is more common in "Fitted" gas hobs from the 80s, 90s, and early 00s (Certainly in the UK where this was filmed). This is where the hobs are fitted into the work surface, and are completely separate from your oven and grill (which may be fitted into a cabinet directly below the hobs, or in another part of the kitchen).
    Example: www.diy.com/departments/beko-qse223sx-stainless-steel-single-multifunction-oven-gas-hob-pack/1771963_BQ.prd
In these setups, the knobs are generally on the right as the majority of people are right handed.
More modern fitted hobs are now designed with the knobs along the front, or along the front but offset to the right hand side.
    Examples: www.diy.com/departments/cooke-lewis-gasuit5-5-burner-inox-stainless-steel-gas-gas-hob-w-750mm/1769723_BQ.prd (Front)
    Or
    www.diy.com/departments/cooke-lewis-clgasuit4-4-burner-inox-stainless-steel-gas-gas-hob-w-580mm/1769716_BQ.prd (Front right)
It is rare to see this on a stand alone cooker, when the knobs are generally along the front of the cooker.

Kombucha must have been a loan word from the time when Manchuria was still part of Japan or the thing itself is a localized version because of the unavailability of kelp so they created their own.

The reason the stove is different is because it's a cooktop built into the counter. Often with models like that, you do find the knobs on the side rather then front.

Hello, Here in the Netherlands the buttons (controls) on the gas stove are on the right side. or at the front. for most people in Europe, the right hand is the dominant hand, and hold the pan (or wok) with the left hand and the spatula in the right that you can easily put down to raise or lower the heat. Love the vid btw.

Nigel and Hersha recently did a Q&A together - Nigel had actually asked friends, family, and others for input on the perfect Malaysian/Chinese uncle stereotype and came up with Uncle Roger. The polo, the belt phone holster, all of it - definitely check out that Q&A if you're interested!

Good reaction video to Uncle Roger and Aunty Hersha! I have been enjoying these UR reaction videos, with your added comments.
I would be interested in seeing your recipe tutorial on kimchi (bap) fried rice. I have seen a version that added sesame oil to the cold rice to help separate the rice grains and impart some flavour. Also, some commercially made gochujang (Korean hot pepper paste) has MSG added...Uncle Roger would approve. 😉

4:01 Food and health regulations are actually off the chart in Europe. All rice allowed to be sold here is no-wash rice, however it is often stated that you should still wash it because the grains my rub against each other in the package and chip off dust-like particles that is said to make your rice sticky when cooking. In my opinion this is bollocks because the rubbing is prone to happen in the cooking pot as well and in particular when you start poking a fork around in it. My tip is that you don't wash the rice, you get more consistent results that way.

We wash rice cuz mostly of rice have possibly insecticides attached 1 or 2 times, it depends on the rice. But not washing it entirely and leave it as it is(milky color). We can use the washed water as to water our plants.
