Lovely part of the country, so glad you could go out and explore -at least a bit! I love this history so no sacrifice here! I look forward to the next installment Thanks Pete🤩
Awesome! Thanks for doing these kinds of vids occasionally! Once lockdowns ease you aughta hit up some of the sites in wales and scotland, there are some incredible ancient sites i dont think youve done vids for yet
What can I say? Your documentaries are epic. Always interesting and informative and keeping my attention! I'm glad you found your calling. You were born to make "docs".😀 Salt has been a large part of human history. Maybe a documentary about salt mines around England & their result with humans? Thank you
I think i really appreciate the time you put into the story you told and i was entertained and left with many questions and cant wait until the next episode. Thanks again.
really nice videos. I was amazed by Caesarea three years ago. I walked there on the beach and not through the official gates to a big surprise of the ticket lady. Amazing place
Hi. I love your other channel with long documetaiesy format, but this is nice too. I will probably never be able to visit such places, so doing it this way is a great opportunity. thank you!!!
You're right where I grew up! The river Deben is my favourite place in the world :) so many memories. Next time you're heading that direction let me know and I can give you a proper tour.
Please consider leaving Europe and the Americas and stay with British history and archaeology - you do such a wonderful job and make it all so easily understandable and interesting.
I think it’s hilarious you said Hereward was supported by the Danes… as I understand it, they rolled up to Ely, stole everything they could and left… he reward *hoped* they’d help his forces, but the Danes thought stealing from the monastery woulda been easier than chancing battle against William
Well Corona fatality has fallen even lower, it’s not really a threat anymore since vaccine and herd immunity and genetic evolution to a less lethal more contagious virus. So yea, have your little meme lol. Wear x3 masks, show them anti-maskers lol
LOL - you can't go to Peru etc, I grew up near there, learnt to sail on that river and have not been able to get into my own country for almost a year. A reverse problem for the both of us - some kind of irony. Combining history with missing home - top video. What they don't tell you is until about the turn of the Millenium, if you knew where to park you could just wander onto the burial mounds. Late at night, with the mist coming in - its spooky as hell. Obviously strong cannabis does not help
Ramsholt - a bit further down the Deben is named (I have been told) after Ravens Wood, because a Viking Army camped there in I guess the 9th or 10th century. Although this is what i was told, I am not sure there is evidence (yet?).
If you go to Suffolk - Sutton Hoo, Framlingham Castle, Otley Castle are all impressive and Ely Cathedral and Cambridge (I grew up in Suffolk so a tad biased!!)
The region known as Northumbria; from stone age monuments, Roman Wall, Anglo-Saxon ad-Gefrin & Bedes world, Holy Island for Christianity, hundreds of castles and the birth of industry with the oldest railway bridge in the world.
Is there enough data for a vid on Mercia and/or King Penda, the last Pagan King of Mercia. He took the heads of 3 christian kings trying to conquer Mercia and convert it. He allowed his family and people to convert at their own choice. Mercia has always intrigued me but it doesn't seem to have a great deal of literature about it.
Angles and Saxons came to England. Also Jutes, from the Jutland peninsula, so they were Danes. The Sutton Hoo area was settled by the Angles, so the burial probably contained an Anglian king (or his son).
I think that river represented the Dragon to those people. It's shape, something about the mouth and angles of it. Very dragon/serpent like, in an ancient, holy, pagan, tribal people, kinda way🐍🐊✌
*Please have your DNA read and share with us.* It's intriguing to look at faces who's ancestors potentially date back 1000s of years in the place in which they live - that for generations, most of them have remained into the modern world, carrying the genetic and perhaps and emotional legacy forward. Your red hair and facial features make me so curious as to who you really are. How easy is it to guess a persons genealogical background just on looks alone? Sometimes people are completely surprised, while others know a great deal more about their family (migrations, etc.).
I don't like teasers : waisting my time. There's too much good stuff (as you are usually doing Pete) to watch. Please don't speak away from the mike, and try to stabilize your hand when panning the landscape. Why don't you carry a tripod ?
Tiny ruined castles, old yard graves, which nobody visits or advertise! Thank you for these fantastic videos! 👍⚘🌞
Excellent use of the crying Theoden there!

Thank you, Pete. Stuck at home in the States and can hardly go anywhere due to Covid. Appreciate your videos.
A much needed tonic, thanks. Looking forward to next instalment 👍
Well that's a tease...gonna wait for the follow up video. What a beautiful place, definitely fit for a king's burial.
Interesting video. I'd very much like to visit Sutton Hoo one day. Cheers from America.
What a nice journey in the days of the fowchi-woohahn flu.
Love the reaction of Theoden King to the news of the pub being closed⚔️
So excited to find your channel!! Thank you💖

Such a great show
You need to tuck the mask under the glasses to stop them steaming!! We have to wear them ALL the time where we live!
You choose to.
Came for the mound. Stayed for the oats.
An awesome educational video - tainted by the astounding ignorance of the government et al.
cheers pete.

When will you upload part II?
It’s finished and will be released in next few days. Thinking of coinciding it with the release of the new film ‘The Dig’
It's about the only good thing about COVID: Focusing on stuff closer to home! And there always is a lot in Europe (incl GB)
At least you were able to go out...

When the Saxons first came to your island, I dont think they were ANGLO-saxons...or am I nit-picking?
