God, I'm grateful I grew up in the UK when I did, I was 13 when this was shown, children's BBC was fantastic. A much simpler time, despite challenges and problems, much, much simpler to just be young.

Danny Kendall was an absolute legend. Knew how the system worked and the machine didn't like it.

This episode of the church bells in the background when planting the tree, was more daunting than when Danny was found dead 😭

Such a sad moment! Danny was an intelligent lad, he knew the school system and how kids were just sheep, made to obey!! Danny thought for himself, did what he wanted to do and was his own person. Its when you get older you realise what kind of institution a school really is!

    • @ridenar1456

It's actually sheep who like Danny take no responsibility or have accountability for themselves whatsoever. Try walking out of school before comprehensive education. They just let you get on with it. Not their f**king problem. The prospects for those not in the grammar school systems were dire. Having an education system that cares enough to chase after you, is a privilege many poor kids from the past never had the luxury of.

I remember coming home from secondary school and watching this episode, in my last year before going out into the world. It doesn't seem a long time ago although it clearly is!

It was quite shocking but very real when they all got upset.it was delt with you showing maturity.when I was at school a teacher took there own life strong and nice guy and would take no nonsense of people sad thing was he told me once in private after I had anxiety issues that he had the same issues himself

Why wasn’t Roland invited to the memorial? He got on well with Kendall and was a key fundraiser in series 10.

Hate to say it, but that memorial plaque needed to be pushed more firmly into the ground, it looks like a stiff breeze would blow it over as it is.

Haha you sick b'stard, mind you it was a stupid plot ignoring the reality that teachers were on a 2 year strike at the time and one from my school started sexually grooming kids from broken homes, it's ok though as he ended up found in various carrier bags chopped up into little bits which definitely needed the waa waa waa waaaaaa.

imagine how many memorials would be goin on like this on a daily basis in modern 2024 Britain.....kids are butchering each other on a daily basis....

Grange Hill started becoming absurd as in reality teachers in UK were on strike from 1985-7 putting us on a 2 day school week for 3 months at one point, not all teachers were bad though, one who cried her eyes out telling us of "the next wave" (talk about de ja vu with these periodical covid attacks) and she assured us she never voted to strike telling us a bunch of virtual strangers turned up (probably Arthur Scargills commie "miners") and tipped the vote to strike which good teachers like her tried to stop.
    RIP Miss Clarke

Gritty English drama.. with no mushy incidental music which would inevitably be included on any typical tacky USA version ......
