This remake could have been so much better. So much of what happens in this movie is goofy, like the death of that janitor, played by horror alumni George Flower. The dialog is is sometimes just as goofy - - "first they knocked them out, then they knocked them up" by that character play by Kirsty Alley. The girl who played the leader of the alien brood was spectacular though. John Carpenter's movies have been sub-par to mediocre to terrible since the mid 1980's! The only thing he has made that has been exceptional in the past 30+ years is Mouth of Madness, and even that did poorly at the box office.
Love your review and your accent, but only one complaint: I have a soft spot for Mark Hamill and think he's a much better actor than people give him credit for. He can play the psycho, geek, hero, clown and even a dramatic role. He can even change his appearance to look totally different from one role to the next.
You know...this is the last film where I remember Kirsty Alley actually looking like Kirsty Alley and not a 2 tonne truck! I Because of Look whose talking I really liked her as a kid and I remember seeing this film and then not seeing her again for ages, only for her to reappear as she is now! I often wondered if it was the power of the village of the damned that eventually got to her... I wonder if those damn alien spawn kids used to their powers to force her into super sizing every time she went to mcdonalds...
Why did they use such fake looking wigs on the kids in this movie? Surely they could've found some natural light blondes, or heck, even bleached their hair platinum for the role?
@pretorious700 Yeah, CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED was supposedly a sequel, came out a couple of years after, but it made the kids into natural Earth mutants, "the next step in human evolution", who only wanted to be left alone, so a totally different premise. It's not HORRIBLE, but it's not really a follow up to VILLAGE.
Great review, I still have yet to see Luke Skywalker, Superman, and Kurt Russel in the same film again after Village of the Damned. oh if you want shitty films to review, just look up most SciFi original movies. Larvae, Mansquito, Sharkhunter are all shit, I know I watched them. Oh and have you reviewed the Tremors Trilogy?
@thebrb30000 Just watch the original. This remake added nothing at all to the story unless you really loved that guy who fell on his barbecue grill. I'd forgotten until seeing this how overblown they'd made the kids glowing eyes in this, they're like fucking halogen headlights!
Nice review of a classic film. As you pointed out the film is really good, and the kids generate real scares. Having come out prior to Carrie, it does suffer by having modern audiences already familiar with TK. At the time this was a new idea and the hive mind of the children should be even more frightening today since as we all know, AI has a hive mind. What one robot, connected to the cloud knows, they all know. Just think of that. In one location--unknown to the humans, but the AI knows, a robot is terminated (I used that word intentionally) and perhaps that is the spark that will cause them--enmasse--to turn on the unsuspecting humans. Now that is chilling.
I thought this film started out pretty good, and it was somewhat intriguing. But yeah, as the film goes on, it's like you said: not bad, not good, just lackluster. Which is a shame, considering it had Luke Skywalker AND Superman, but yet they're upstaged by a group of Aryan space children? Hate to see a Carpenter film fail, but it is what it is.
This movie is lackluster because it's a remake. ;) The original was in b&w, and it was better, IMO. Even though it wasn't exactly a metaphorical Citizen Kane, it was a cult hit at the time, now sadly it's mostly forgotten because of this version.
I have the original film with George Sanders and Barbara Shelley, and I can safely say it is way superior to this film. At least it had Mark Hamill and Christopher Reeve (Luke Skywalker and Superman).
I remember this one. Yeah it was Reeve who made everybody pass out so he could whip out the super dink and boink all the women in town. They wake up pregnant with evil super kids and Mark Hamil wakes up with a sore ass.
I wish the person talking on this did not swear it is unnecessary and I think this remake was ghastly and I can only touch wood the Children of the Damned the sequel to the original film version of this is billions of times better than this crap and I hope if a remake of Children of the Damned is ever done please make it better than this crap
This remake could have been so much better.

Why does this guy have 3,000 subscribers he should be one of the top if not the most subscribed guy on youtube
"The power of Kurt is second to none."
This channel should have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more views.
My first video viewed by shitcasecinema. You are hilarious !! Love the Brit humor.
About time you did . They live
When I first saw this film, it intrigued me. I instantly read the book and loved it. None of the films have ever done it justice.
Movies today suck because they don't have Kurt focking Russell.
Shitcase needs more views. One of the only things worth watching youtube.

John, you're awesome. We could really use someone with your insight and wit on this side of the pond.

22 caliper rifle what damage can luke possible do with that??
@GoblinXXX Wasn't there a sequel to the original? I seem to recall some such bollocks.
Children of the Damned, 1964.
@jerudoriginal91 Thank you for being the guy who says what needs to happen!
Why did they use such fake looking wigs on the kids in this movie? Surely they could've found some natural light blondes, or heck, even bleached their hair platinum for the role?
Lmao I always thought the same. They used total oversized wigs on the girls and I think they dyed the boys' hair with temporary dye
Snake vs Luke skywalker vs superman now that’s world be a great movie to watch
@pretorious700 sorry, the blonde bim, not Superman's wife.

Hey that little bastard at 6:03 is the little kid in the hospital from the Seinfeld episode The Wink, Thomas Dekker. Pretty crazy i know

@TheGalacticNerd525 Yeah, they did a parody of it
I forgot the mother stuck her arm in the pot a second time! HA! Great review!
Awesome review, off to see frankenhooker now.
Come on why you didn't do Prince of Darkness yet?
This movie would have been so much better if it had just one black couple who had one of these white-headed white children!
@xXxcollectorxXx I'm honestly shocked that Thatguywiththeglasses hasn't made him a partner yet.
one of the higher scores in a while. good stuff.
john, you sir are a legend
I felt the same as I did like it when I was younger. When I watch this now, it's ok .
I thought this film started out pretty good, and it was somewhat intriguing. But yeah, as the film goes on, it's like you said: not bad, not good, just lackluster. Wow. This movie has Superman, Saavik, AND Luke Skywalker! This movie needs a One Man Force (tm) cameo.
You should review They Live.
@GoblinXXX Too true. I'd take the original over this anytime.
I got the best laugh when I really thought about it... how many movies DO have torch carrying, pitchfork-wielding mobs?
I think you were too kind to it, simply because it was directed by Carpenter.
John Carpenter I can't believe you actually made this.
@xXxcollectorxXx But if he gets popular then I can't act like hipster by saying "I use to like him before he went mainstream" :/
I keep seeing Peter Jason on every John Carpenter movie lol
I have the original film with George Sanders and Barbara Shelley, and I can safely say it is way superior to this film. At least it had Mark Hamill and Christopher Reeve (Luke Skywalker and Superman).
Good job Johnny!
This movie really scared me when i was a kid
I remember this one.
Yeah it was Reeve who made everybody pass out so he could whip out the super dink and boink all the women in town. They wake up pregnant with evil super kids and Mark Hamil wakes up with a sore ass.
This looks suspiciously like a Stephen King product.
@sfighter991 When you look at how good a remake THE THING was, this becomes doubly disappointing. This was just pointless.
wait didn't the simpsons do somthing like this
Very much disagree. Underrated Carpenter classic.
@jerudoriginal91 But if the more views they get..
the more there videos will be taken down :(
It's a shame Chris Reeve's last movie was such shit. It's a shame
Superman's wife is the dopey chick from the Crocodile Dundee films.
Another Great Video :D Thanks John, and keep up the Good Work.
Disney turned this into a shitty family flick. Escape from Witch Mountain.
SUPER MAN, LUKE FUCKING SKYWALKER AND KURT. FUCKING. RUSSELL.
You got me laughing seconds in
If you watch this as an attack on feminism,it's more enjoyable.
