Funny how harpsichord translates to marimba rather well ... But the "shape" of the sound of both instruments has some parallels: sharp percussive striking tone followed immediately by a more mellow elongated tone.
First of all: great marimba players! But the orchestra is also playing in a very light and transparant way. No vibrato and every slurred note is played with a diminuendo, consequently. Spiccato is light, no pushing on the bow. Superb!
This was just weird. Like why the period strings if we're going duo marimba? We have already abandoned period performance right? And why two marimba? Would one be unable to perform the piece? If this is their schtick then fine but the whole thing has a showboating aspect I find distasteful. As a technical accomplishment I admit the percussionists performed admirably, but I struggle to get a musical satisfaction from this production. Of course it sounds good. It's an exceptional composition, even by Bach's standards. But this is too weird for me.
This harpsichord concerto played with marimbas sounds so refreshing! 😃
The orchestra also plays very well. 🎵🎼🎶
Omg… Bach on Marimba is my new obsession. This sounds SO right! Also the ensemble 👌

From harpsichord to piano to marimba; what a fun timeless piece!
Such joy from the marimba players, such expressiveness from chunks of wood. Wonderful!
i love the communication between the marimba players, it's so alive!!
Omg I could listen to this for hours... So masterfully performed. Bach sounds so good on the marimba.

Very awesome! A bit unfortunate that the camera only focuses on Bogdan (there isn't a single close-up shot of Christoph). That aside, it's perfect.

@@alexanderwakan1602 And Keiko Abe mallets
What kind of mallet?
There is an organ back there why not use it?
.
because they changed the
harpsichord into the marimbas
on purpose . . . . 🎶
😯
I want harder mallets, that would be nicer honestly
