    Thank you for the wonderful video. I love Rembrandt paints. I really love their Ultramarine Blue Deep. I'm an impressionist and paint in impasto. No medium needed as they are creamy right out of the tube.

    Thanks for all your lovely sunny paintings, and really clear information. I love your no fuss approach. Having just purchased some Cobra paints I I am not clear about how to tell when oils are dry?

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 года назад

      Thank you Jillian. Those are waterbased oils? I am not that familiar with these paints, but best suggestion is to do a painting in one session and monitor drying time. If it is dry to the touch or no marks are made when you do this, then it is ready for retouch varnish.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 года назад

      I may add that a week is usually fine for my oils (warm climate)

    Wonderful! Out of curiosity - when would you recommend a red undercoat, as you've done here?

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  2 года назад +2

      Thank you. When there are a lot of greens in the scene. letting a little red show through will reduce the green dominance. Also a hot earthy scene, like a desert, will harmonise the various colors.

    Hello Malcolm.. I know the video is about rembrandt colors but I was just curious about whether you use thick edge stretched canvas 🤔 I am having tough time storing all the stretched canvas paintings, hence the question! 🙄

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 года назад +1

      Most of my paintings are on MDF panels. Some with canvas stuck on and others without. Much easier to store and transport.

    How do you spread the paint without solvent or oil? I tried to work with heavy body oils but I couldn't easily spread it. Is it due to my synthetic brushes?
    And second question is do you recommend any non-toxic solvent for oils ? I have to paint in my home ( I have no studio) and the toxicity is big problem for me. Thanks. Geeat painting by the way!

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 года назад +6

      Thank you. Most modern oils should be soft enough to work without mediums. Yes synthetic brushes are the likely problem. Try genuine bristle brushes. I have a few videos on that on my channel.
      There are non-toxic solvents like Maimeri Eco medium. Also Maimeri Eco brush cleaner. You can also try waterbased oils by Windsor and Newton or Royal Talents range.
