Make sure you check the description for a table of contents to this guide! With 2.2 released, I've updated the description to let you know which topics are now out of date. The Planetary Rework with 2.2 is the biggest change you'll need to know, here's a "Quick Start" Guide on that (14mins) - ruclips.net/video/w9GVyaKHNhY/видео.html The Federations Update adds a lot of new stuff, but doesn't outdate what I've taught you in my two guides. If you want to pick up *Stellaris for 70% off* and support the channel, visit this link -> www.cdkeys.com/?mw_aref=REPUBLIC&q=stellaris I've used cdkeys for the passed three years without an issue, so I highly recommend it.
This is not only very informative, but the most well articulated, organized, and paced guide for Stellaris 2.0. I particularly like how you briefly mention certain mechanics/concepts as they come up but postpone the more detailed explanation until they become more relevant. Thanks!
[ 07:41 ] Thanks to the "Distant Stars" Update anomalies don't have a chance to fail any longer! Anomaly level now translates to longer anomaly research times
besides that, you also no longer have at least a 1% chance of losing your science ship and/or scientist on it. Math below Playing on a medium size galaxy (~600 stars), assuming ~4 planets per star and 8% average chance of discovering an anomaly (without modifiers), that would be 192 anomalies to analyze. If every single one had a 5% chance of failure (therefore a 1% chance of critical failure), you'd have a 99.99% chance of an anomaly failing and 85.5% chance of one critically failing. On average, around 10 would fail and of those, 2 would be critical. Though, there probably would be more since not everyone always does anomalies with 5% risk (or less*)
I picked it up yesterday and played for about 8 hours before an advanced race came through a wormhole slam dunk in the middle of my Empire destroyed my puny fleets and 5-6 systems, before their Khan died and their race splintered. But I couldn't come back from the negative energy/minerals/food. This is a great guide and helped me better understand factions, technology and war. Time for a new crusade
Ave imperator. Oh Emperor- Overseer that makes all things right Who's power none can resist. Grant me the strength to defeat thine enemies Grant me the will to defeat thy beast From thine grace...I shall show no fear
Wow, this guide is way better than any other guide, written or video, that I've seen. He really explains everything thoroughly without going so in-depth that he gets bogged down. I understand a whole lot more of how to play now.
This is honestly the best, most well explained guide Ive ever watched. The table of contents was absolutely amazing too. Completely new to the series but this really was a great way to start. So comprehensive! Thank you for the hard work!
Thats a pretty comprehensive guide and unless Paradox pulls another 2.0 it should be a really good starting guide for Stellaris beginners for a long time!
Bitmarck I'm watching this in order to relearn Stellaris due to Cherryh. Changed everything and now it's like I'm a newb. But man, they gave me something I really wanted, better fleets
Ah yes you're right! I guess I just meant it in the fact constructor ships can't get it out at space, but good observation! You can of course also build it on Habitats too if you own Utopia.
Yes, but would be a good tip for new comers to use it as an easy and fast solution if they run into a food defect. Noting also that producing food on habitats isn't cost effective.
Personally I never really had to build orbital farms early to mid game, but that was partially luck since my first few colonizable planets had plenty of extra food tiles. I dont think I've had less then a 5% bonus growth rate from extra food on my first play through so far. I think it's not really worth it unless you have a race from an arid planet, poor colony planets, or until late game.
Outstanding work sir. I have wanted to begin playing a space-based game for some time now. I originally purchased Terra Invicta, but even after the tutorials and help videos, I remained totally lost. After about an hour of play into Stellaris, I realized I needed some additional help. Within minutes of watching your video I began to understand several aspects which had previously eluded me. Many thanks for your help!
I've just purchased this game as it was on offer on Steam, started to play but was very complicated, found this guide which has helped, will give it another go later. Many thanks for the help
This is the best most detailed and easy to follow video ive ever had the pleasure of watching. Although i knew 80 percent of what was covered. I wish i had watched this when i first picked up the game. Well done. Well done indeed.
@RepublicOfPlay mate, this is literally the best guide Ive ever watched for any game. Seriously well done, and thank you so much your hardwork really comes through in this and it's appreciated. Subbed
The vid is 2 years old, but now i suddenly understand most of the game, and the past 4 hours that was frustrating might become more enjoyable in the future! Great tut!
I have over 1000 hours in this game. It is definitely on my top 10 all time. Kudos to the vid author. It is a credit to be able to structure a valuable 40 minute vid that hits all the key items for folks thinking about getting into this game. Good job sir!
Really good guide! Thanks man! One tip though: around 6:30 you say you might need to delete a mining station in order to prevent a power deficit. Instead of doing that, a far less interceptive move would be to deactivate a power consuming building on a planet, to then reactivate it when you've gained enough energy income.
Thank you so much for this! I'm a gaming vet and was put off by the amount of opaque concepts being thrown at me (I was ready to uninstall it after about 30 minutes). Someone at Paradox needs to give you some sort of reward for making their overwhelming early game just... um.. whelming? I'm subscribing anyway for this one alone :D Keep up the great work!
After having played Stellaris for more than 250 hours I like to think I`m well versed in Stellaris, but I do like to lokk at gides like thease every now and then to chek if there is anything I did not know. I`m really glad I did so this time only for the one tip at 27:55. Knowing this would have saved more than one playthroug, and for that I thank you. Edith: 34:12 You can`t de-colonise a planet with the "Indiscriminant" bombardment stance, for that you need the "Armagedon" stance, that can only be used by specific races like "Fanatic Purifier" and the likes, and that transforms the planet to a "tomb world" that most have a 0% habitability for, at the start.
Regardless of not knowing how to play or not knowing everything can i ask do u think i would like this game. I love real time strategy games and i like cities skylines and surviving mars. I dont like games that are overly complicated. I do love space themed games. Out of 10 what would u rate this game at just to give me an idea what someone thinks who has played it for such a long time. Thanks for any time u put into a reply.
You did a great job with this guide man. You kept it simple and touched on many things that might not be directly apparent to a new player. I learned a few things in this guide that had been confusing me I feel like a have a much better idea of some of the mechanics and am excited to do my next play through in use of the mechanics i wasn't aware of. Thank you for providing this guide.
Excellent: Always important to go back to this (especially given the constant system tweaks, not that I am complaining about Paradox's incredible content production, or wonderful tribute to sci-fi)
Thank you for teaching me these basics, I think this is one of the only videos I've seen which really does help new players to the fullest extent! Good job, RepublicOfPlay.
I'm just learning how to play Stellaris. I bought it a long time ago and just tried booting it up and learning as I went. It was too overwhelming for me, and I gave up. I think I'll be able to actually have fun with it after watching this. You make it sound so easy! Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. It is a tutorial that actually, you know, tutors!! 😆👍Most of these type of videos just don't work for me, but this one certainly did. I am now happily playing Stellaris and.....I get it!! You were right in what you say at the start of the video - once you get your head around it, it is not that hard to understand BUT it is, thankfully, still a complex game, that is what I play Paradox games for - I like their complexity. So after playing EU4, CK2, and now Stellaris etc. there is still one Paradox game I haven't cracked yet - Hearts of Iron 4. But I'll get there! Thanks again mate.... 👍👍🙂🙂❤️
thank you man, i bought it today and restarted 4-5 times because the tutorial gives you like 3 direct hints and then leaves you guessing on what to do next
The work you put into this guide and the way you neither belittle new players with "this is a 4x game, and first you learn what a game is...", nor overwhelm them with knowledge that they´ll learn for themselves naturally is amazing. Paradox should consider making this their official "howto".
Very informative beyond the basic Tutorial ! *Particular gets interesting about half way in: about insurrection's & faction uprising's that are critical to the overall happiness principle etc.
Excellent guide! Even as someone who has played the game for over a year this has been helpful and I can only imagine how great it must be for a brand new player. Earned yourself a sub :)
I love spacefaring so I have always been intrigued by this game. Never quite got the hang of it but this is a great showcase of what you can and should do. Really helps out, thank you. :)

Two changes I want are 1. Increased maintainable cost 2. 80% mineral return when scrapping ships. This is to discourage maintaining huge fleets and easily wiping out other races through shear military scale encouraging your fleets to be smaller and more optimised. This also makes it better to scrap shops when in a time of peace as right now it takes more than 20 years of peace for scrapping ships to be in any way worthwhile. Also a way to encourage strategic Fleet composition
Thank you for this guide it's very helpful. Now that I'm listening to you I see that it's a mixture of EU4 and CIV mechanics, so I'm less disoriented now that I can relate to those games. Well it's not that I'm that good at EU4 but I understand the mechanics even if I'm not a very good at strategist :p
im not a strategy game person but decided to give the game a try anyways. This has been the only game i have been able to play for more than 1 hour without being overly confused and frustrated i just followed the in game tutorial and everything was explained clearly
As one would expect from Darren, an excellent overview of the game. It's one I've got my eye on, not quite ready to take the plunge. Fantastic guide. If I had found this in January when I started playing I'd have saved a lot of time (and probably have more, less grey hair!) This game so gives me the nostalgia of playing Alpha Centauri back in the day. The music and sound effects are quite similar. I would bet that the game devs have def played alpha centauri by Sid Meier
This video is so well made. It’s a shame it’s massively out of date after only 14 months. I’ve recently gotten back into Stellaris and with the 2.3 drop today I can’t believe how much has changed. There’s scattered 2.2 guides out there but I’d love to see one made like this for 2.3. Great job, hope to see a new one someday! 👍
Here's my 2.2 Guide - it's a quick start guide, brushed over the major concepts - as far as I know, 2.3 isn't massively different. ruclips.net/video/w9GVyaKHNhY/видео.html
I just picked up stellaris and thought it looked amazing and fun, but after going through the in-game tutorial i still had no idea what i was doing. Watch the video, everything makes a lot more sense. Thanks!
because of this essential guide (and a few stellaris lps) I decided to buy the game (also steam sale) Your guide def has helped me get a feel for the game and what the hell I should do in my galaxy, thanks!
Make sure you check the description for a table of contents to this guide! With 2.2 released, I've updated the description to let you know which topics are now out of date.
The Planetary Rework with 2.2 is the biggest change you'll need to know, here's a "Quick Start" Guide on that (14mins) - ruclips.net/video/w9GVyaKHNhY/видео.html

A friendly suggestion! Your traditions timestamp should be 23:05 instead of 22:05 :)
Damn, I've played stellaris for ~7 months, but that does not mean that i cannot learn more things. Good job man, well done!
Great editing and great explanations thank you so much! You put a lot of work into this and it shows.
Very well done. Looking forward to the 2.2 update Guide ;)
Äå
absolute legend for including a table of contents in the description
truley a god among youtube guides
Approved.
When ASpec approves your guide, you know you have done a good job.
ASpec is your last name Sheridan?
This is not only very informative, but the most well articulated, organized, and paced guide for Stellaris 2.0. I particularly like how you briefly mention certain mechanics/concepts as they come up but postpone the more detailed explanation until they become more relevant. Thanks!
Well stated Jade!
What they said. Thank you.
[ 07:41 ] Thanks to the "Distant Stars" Update anomalies don't have a chance to fail any longer! Anomaly level now translates to longer anomaly research times
Noobish: I think it's just a better gameplay experience to have them not fail, but still be able to optimize researching them
besides that, you also no longer have at least a 1% chance of losing your science ship and/or scientist on it.

Bitmarck well pops are being completely redone next patch so that only took 3 months
They've already gotten rid of anomaly failures.
Lmao this comment is funny because they are. They're making ecenomy more logical but also more annoying to deal with
Guide is useless now.
Food can be produced by "Orbital Hydroponic Farms" also not only on planets 03:10
Ah yes you're right! I guess I just meant it in the fact constructor ships can't get it out at space, but good observation! You can of course also build it on Habitats too if you own Utopia.

U still still cheated yourself outa the puzzle tho. 😁kinda like asking help from your Gran with the Sunday crossword. Eh
I've just purchased this game as it was on offer on Steam, started to play but was very complicated, found this guide which has helped, will give it another go later. Many thanks for the help

Do I have over 200 hours in Stellaris? Yes.
Am I watching a 40 minute tutorial on it? Also yes.
I've spent so much time and the game has also changed so much since that I feel nostalgic watching it.
TYVM, so many Stellaris Beginner Tuts, seem more intermediate to advanced to me.
Your Mission, to Explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new Civilizations, and Incinerate them. : )

Jim VanLaar
And just think what you could have accomplished in 1,000 hours in real life 🤨
thanks a lot, the game looked so overwhelming at first glance but now that I've watched your video its relatively simple
Thank you so much! I have been wanting this game for a while, but when I finally picked it up, I had no idea what I was doing. This guide helps a lot!
I tried to play this a few years ago and was lost so I gave up. I just decided to pick it back up and your guide was amazing! Thanks so much!
It's crazy how many changes they made with v2.2. Thank you for having the table of contents and showing which parts are now out of date!
Really good guide! Thanks man! One tip though: around 6:30 you say you might need to delete a mining station in order to prevent a power deficit. Instead of doing that, a far less interceptive move would be to deactivate a power consuming building on a planet, to then reactivate it when you've gained enough energy income.
Wow, this game has so much information that needs to be crammed into your head to play.
Still in my first play through but this was the most time efficient comprehensive guide I've seen so far thanks!
This is honestly one of the best guides for a game that I've ever seen.

Oh by the way i would be buying on xbox one x if that makes any difference.
The thumbnail alone describes everything a noob needs to know about a Paradox game: the shortest crash course beginners guide is about 45 minutes.
Offtopic: I picked it up after seeing you streaming it a few times and don't regret it!
thank you man, i bought it today and restarted 4-5 times because the tutorial gives you like 3 direct hints and then leaves you guessing on what to do next
This was very useful. Going to attempt a first play through. Thank you for the effort you put into this.
How did it go :P
Thank you for actually explaining how to play this giant game.
The work you put into this guide and the way you neither belittle new players with "this is a 4x game, and first you learn what a game is...", nor overwhelm them with knowledge that they´ll learn for themselves naturally is amazing. Paradox should consider making this their official "howto".
Thanks for an awesome guide! I haven't played in two years, but I will give it another go.
I found this tutorial extremely helpful thank you for the quality content.
Very informative beyond the basic Tutorial ! *Particular gets interesting about half way in: about insurrection's & faction uprising's that are critical to the overall happiness principle etc.
This is a really great guide, should have way more views. well done!
What a guide thank you! I’ve just started this game and you have helped me 10 fold :-)
Very detailed, comprehensive explanation on all points of the game. Well done! this helped me, even though I am not a new Stellaris player.
Excellent guide! Even as someone who has played the game for over a year this has been helpful and I can only imagine how great it must be for a brand new player. Earned yourself a sub :)
The first 5min told me the quality of this video. 10/10! Thank you for doing this!
I love spacefaring so I have always been intrigued by this game. Never quite got the hang of it but this is a great showcase of what you can and should do. Really helps out, thank you. :)
Okay this was the kind of guide I was looking for, holy crap
My friends made me pick up Stellaris two days ago. I'm new to strategy games in general and I had no idea what I was supposed to do when we started. After watching this video I think I'll handle the game much better and I'll definetly be coming back to this video every now and then.
Install almost done... Excited to play. Watched your video twice to prep. Thanks for the excellent presentation!
Coming across this video was the best. He is not wasting your time with senseless verbiage. ROP has it down. Thank you for your hard work and proficiency at doing helper vids.
i had a really hard time getting into this game or even caring about until i watched this. just want you to know that you're doing a great job. great word choice, great voice, great everything. awesome!
Thanks!
Suffer not the alien to live
Terrific overview-- thanks very much!
This is a very well produced guide. You are very articulate with your explanations, and you touch on them in just the right amount for a good pacing of the topics. If I wanted to introduce someone to Stellaris, this is absolutely the video I would start them off with. Thank you for putting in the effort to make this. very well done!
Thanks for the nice comment!
Started playing Stellaris a few days ago referencing various Wikis as necessary for assistance. I cannot begin to say how much I wish I had watched this video tutorial instead. Great information, produced and edited very well. Seriously, thank you so much.
No probs glad it helped!
Thank you for making this. Very well edited and clearly spoken.
Two changes I want are 1. Increased maintainable cost
2. 80% mineral return when scrapping ships.

Excellent guide - recommended for anyone who has played a little and needs to go to the next level!
So much more fun when you have half a clue what is going on on the screen. Thank you
Take a shot every time he says "We'll cover a little bit later"
This video was a great help. Now I have a better insight on how to play and manage this game. I'm purchasing it. Thank you. Please do more vidoes.
As one would expect from Darren, an excellent overview of the game. It's one I've got my eye on, not quite ready to take the plunge. I started with Space Invaders and Asteroid and it's fair to say things have moved on a tad from those halcyon days. I shudder to think how much money I spent on gaming then. Ten pence a game! 😉
Amazing! Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was much needed and much appreciated!
I learnt stellaris from how you played your game. I got it now. Cant wait to play
THANK YOU for this!!! It has helped so much!!
Hi, and I'll echo what others have said: this was an excellent overview. And as a new console player, it was extremely valuable. Thanks, and have a great day!
woah..the first half of the vid was great..the last half confused me big time...Great video
Enjoyed this a lot, very nicely done! All the best!
Fantastic guide. If I had found this in January when I started playing I'd have saved a lot of time (and probably have more, less grey hair!)
I've got 300hrs or so now but still picked a few bits up and always a good refresher. Lots of hard work put in here. Top marks.
Also, Aspec approved - good work!
Best stellaris beginners guide, thank you!
Excellent guide! Thank you so much!
I bought the vanilla in the promo and been surfing for good guides, best one by far
I'm brand new to this game and found this an excellent noob guide - many thanks indeed
Thank you for very high quality content.
I just found this out: You can add an action to the top of the cue (great for when anomalies pop up) by pressing ctrl + shift + right click.
I really appreciate this, i love grand strategies but often don't have time to learn them do to work hours.
Great editing and pacing.
This game so gives me the nostalgia of playing Alpha Centauri back in the day. The music and sound effects are quite similar. I would bet that the game devs have def played alpha centauri by Sid Meier
Very good in depth video! Keep up the good work
Perfect, this out of date version is Nicely inline with where console currently is
Great guide man super in depth
this video was uploaded on 12th of April... very nice, I see what you did there.
Thanks alot for this guide.I picked up Stellaris just recently and it helps a lot to get into it.
Thanks for the comment!
You're the best type of person for this.
This is the perfect game for the quarantined
This video is so well made. It’s a shame it’s massively out of date after only 14 months. I’ve recently gotten back into Stellaris and with the 2.3 drop today I can’t believe how much has changed. There’s scattered 2.2 guides out there but I’d love to see one made like this for 2.3. Great job, hope to see a new one someday! 👍
Here's my 2.2 Guide - it's a quick start guide, brushed over the major concepts - as far as I know, 2.3 isn't massively different. ruclips.net/video/w9GVyaKHNhY/видео.html
