Watching this after being involved with the latest rescue on this bar has brought two things to the surface for me.
    1, life jackets
2 Timing the crossing to corrospond with dead water.
We crossed on our way out at near low tide. It was benign.
Caught our limit and returned at 0900ish, and the washing machine was in full on mode. Incoming tide against the wind.
The third thing i would like people to understand was the capacity of the vessel. There were seven large men on the boat that floundered.
I dont want to elaborate on this as I dont know the capacity of that boat.
But guys, keep your crews well within the load capacity of your boat.

I was out there on Sunday as well the people in the water were very lucky that it was a busy day out there and conditions were about as favourable as u can get but you never cross the manukau at mid tide we came in at about half 10 and that was the earliest we where willing to cross as you said know your boats limits as well and I always tell people if you are crossing bars regularly have a plb on your lifejacket because if something happens it’s most probably going to happen so fast you won’t have time to put out a mayday or get to your main beacon and learn the bar where it’s safe to go and do it with someone else before taking your own boat over if possible and also small tides if possible and keep to the slack water if it’s a bigger tide

I am Pakeha and i love learning our Maori Culture every opportunity i can. So long i have miss pronounced the beautiful language from being around i suppose lazyness or arrogance of being pakeha. The Maori people have so much to teach us all how to live together in peace and harmony.
