- According to a new report, 98% of Brits wants single-sex toilets.
The Government has said it wants all new public buildings to have separate male and female toilets.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities announced the move on Monday, citing “safety concerns” raised by some women over the rise in “gender neutral” facilities.
The approach follows a call for evidence which gathered a wide range of views, including from “pregnant women, older people, disabled people and people who come under the protected characteristic of gender reassignment”, the Government added.
It said: “The rise in ‘gender neutral’ toilets raised safety concerns from women who feel they are losing privacy and being unfairly disadvantaged.”
Trans rights groups say that gender neutral toilets can help protect trans people against discrimination.
The Government said on Monday “separate unisex (or universal) toilets” should be provided if there is space, but should not come at the expense of female-only toilets.
The changes will be made through building regulations and guidance and will apply to new public buildings of a certain size.
The Government said this size will be determined during a consultation process to be launched this autumn.
Equalities minister Kemi Badenoch said: “It is vital that women feel safe and comfortable when using public facilities, and that their needs are respected.
“These changes will ensure that separate toilets for men and women are preserved at the same time as providing universal toilets for those that want them. This is a common sense approach.”
No this needs to be stopped and by stopping it we are also protecting our children.

I think children are far more at risk from their own fathers as that’s where most sexual abuse occurs - and by the Catholic Church - measure in their tens or hundred of thousands - or perhaps you’ve had your head in the clouds - or up your arse over the last 20 years and not watched the news. Also very devout religious straight family men from Rotherham and Telford - and the rest - have been far more active in that sort of abuse.
As a man I don't feel comfortable sharing as I don't want my presence to potentially make any female feel uncomfortable.

I went to a bar with a gender-neutral toilets. On the back of each door they had safety messages for women in danger. The instructions said to ask for (a name) at the bar and they will call the police. Every man will now know that asking the bar staff for a certain name means danger which puts women even more at risk!
Ask for Angela is a general safety campaign for bars led by the Met and other police forces. I still dislike the gender neutral bollocks.
I don't support gender neutral bogs by any means, but my local pub in Slovakia has one toilet bowl and 3 urinals in the same space. No one has ever batted an eyelid and quite often there are women and men in the same space at the same time. Having said that, there are no trans people in the village, but in this case I can't help thinking that I doubt it would make a difference if there was.

@@dollybird3911 I never said I was happy with it. It's just not an issue in my village in Slovakia, but I see everything is hypersensitive in the UK these days. The fact is there is no Legal requirement for gender neutral bogs. You state 98% of violence against women is inflicted by men, but what % of that happens in public places? Most men are assaulted by other men, but they still take a piss side by side in the same public space. I don't disagree with you, but you need a better argument than just blaming men, men, men.
I refuse to give my business to any company who has these toilet. I check the place out first.

They don't listen to average women OR men generally, only to pressure groups/vested interest.
It's likely much higher than 98%. Those that are pushing for the mixed toilets are probably much more motivated to jump at any survey about it to give it some legitimacy.

Who would of thought of a time where our leaders would be so confused as to what a man and a woman was that they would lump us all into the same toilets and changing rooms? I bet no-one because the idea is too ludicrous
Go to a university, they love this shite. I did a job in the Essex uni recently and their everyone toilet is the only clean one!
Firstly I am rather surprised there are any public toilets left, but seriously I suppose that so many people, councils, companies have already gone so far down this road they will find it very difficult to change back due mainly to cost.
If a woman is attacked in one of these facilities the can the organisation that permitted this dictate be prosecuted for aiding a crime.
I do not know any person who want same sex toilets, not 1 single person. Also I do not like men cleaning woman's toilets and likewise women cleaning mens toilets, just swop them round
Couple of weeks ago on the way back from torquay we visited a service break, in walks a woman to clean the gents, I meet up with my wife who said that there was man cleaning the ladies toilet! Why?
Please also stop this rubbish that you cannot speak to a human when ordering food, you must do it through an app! No customer interaction at all, you keep a ticket and watch the notice board for your number! What rubbish!

As a female, if i go into a gender neutral toilet I just take my boyfriend in with me and he stands outside the cubicle. Job done.

Only once have I seen a line of men queuing for the gents ( this was during the interval at a theatre) but this often happens for women outside womens’ loos. The only time I had to use a mixed toilet I had to join an extended line of both sexes. Please give me segregated toilets anytime. Don’t get me wrong….this is nothing compared to the concerns of women and girls.

Same sex toilets are just a excuse to put CCTV in the toilet but not the cubicle you can't have urinals so you will need a lot more cubicles CCTV will be essential to protect both male female and children to lessen the ques you would need another toilet with urinals so it defeats the object

If you want people to use the toilets to which their biological sex matches I suggest you do an image search on Laith Ashley, Buck Angel, Aydian Dowling, Shane Ortega and Jaimie Wilson. How do you feel about those people going into the female toilets?

The thing is which toilet do you want trans men and women to use? Which toilet? If you don’t want trans women to go into a woman’s toilet then you have very convincing looking women going into the mens and convincing looking men going into the womens toilet. Don’t you think that will cause more angst as you’ll not know the sex of the person going into the toilet.

I dislike that term. Call them unisex toilets and no I don't want them. Men's toilets have urinals and women's have cubicles. Segregated toilets also reduces social ambiguity

inaccurate, sex chromosomes don’t always match up, female = ovaries, unless you have an ultrasound on deck, it’s hard to know who’s who
@@Armed-Forever It really isn't. Women are excellent at it (as I've said). Men seem to struggle but women have had to threat-assess for centuries. We've adapted to be pretty good at it. We can almost always tell.
