I remember once in the 1990s the Jets were playing the Bears at Giants Stadium and after a Bears punt, had the ball inside their own 1 yard line. It was 1st-and-10 for the Jets. They handed it off, and the running back ran 99 yards to inside the Bears' 1 yard line. He was tripped up just before he scored. Still, it was now 1st-and-goal for the Jets. They failed to score on 4 straight plays from inside the one, and turned the ball over on downs. THAT is the Jets franchise in a nutshell.
I’m thoroughly impressed by the Jags holder for eventually getting on that ball. Dude has never taken a hit in his life and he went all out to get that, despite being chased by large 300-lb lineman and having no impact on the play other than possibly keeping them from a scoop and score. Respect.
I feel like a good bonus clip that should have been included was from a college game, 2 years ago I think, that resulted in 3rd and goal from their own 7 yard line (basically 3rd and 93). that was the worst play I've ever seen including the butt fumble 😂😂😂
The Drew Brees safety was actually a really smart move on his part. You don't wanna give your opponent the ball back with enough time for even just one play when they're that close to the endzone following the turnover on downs. Running to the endzone for the safety not only took extra time off the clock (that otherwise wouldn't happen on a 4th down punt), but it also forced a safety kick that insured the opponent would either run the clock out on a (presumable) unsuccessful kick return or would be in terrible field position for one last play. That said, I'm not sure why that's on this list...it was a very tactical move...completely intentional.
Had a similar play happen to me in college during a JV game. Yes, those really happen. I was the holder on a PAT and our kicker was a straight-on kicker. The snap went over the kicker's head and I finally corralled it at midfield, only to be held up by two defenders while the rest of them all piled on.
3:30 to 3:50 Back before the rivalry was just another divisional game. Also loved this video's ending with the clip of the announcer saying "You'll never see this happen again!". That announcer was obviously not a psychic.

All those safety plays are actually smart football. As evidence given at 5:25. Had that punter kicked the ball out, he'd have lost 2 points, but that would have been better than the 6 lost by giving up the TD.

I was going to say the same thing. He was the only one putting forth any effort after the ball was snapped.
Looks like he did that little sliding kick on purpose so he'd have a better shot at getting it.
