Yeah lesbian here and I never even thought it might be offensive. Like sure coming out is not a good time to live but I find all jokes about it pretty funny, including the holosexual one

It’s cause she is. Even tho they might have some of the same views, she has grown into someone who knows the value of her words and actions which is why she apologized about the holosexual joke even tho it only offended a small part of the audience. She has also experienced more and opened up her tiny bubble. She grew into someone understanding and so sure of herself and I could go on about how she’s such a role model to everyone.

Coming out is extremely hard for some people, and I don’t speak for the whole community, but I will say the “coming out as Holo” jokes made me feel more comfortable with the concept because instead of something to be feared, it felt like Simply was normalizing it. That’s my personal experience.
I'm Russian as shit and still am not really "out" to my family or most of my irl friends and the experience is kinda the same. It shure as heck depends on how one wiews this tho
I also felt that as a gay woman. I feel that "coming out" tends to be something you should fear, and fear the reaction of others, and making light of it helps it to be more of an everyday thing. I realize that not everyone feels this way, and I had negativr reactions to my coming out, so I know it aint always easy. I just wish that someday there wouldnt be a need to come out and everyone could just love whoever they want and be who they are without needing to express it to the world.
It's not bad, it helps that same sex marriage has been legal since ... gosh 2003? 2005? So people have had time to wrap their head around the concept and there's way less public vitriol. That said, I've been called a "f*ckin f*ggot" for walking down the street holding my best friend's hand, so...
It’s a city with 2-3 universities and 1-2 colleges (depending if you count private schools or not) so a lot of people are fairly educated. And although it’s a political city, even our right wing party, the conservatives, have agreed (albeit not that long ago) that people should have the right to marry the same sex so it’s not even really a political issue anymore. Micro aggressions towards the LGBTQ+ community are still an issue though. I don’t think there’s too many people that are necessarily “homophobic” but still people that lack some understanding.
I gotta say canada is pree dope everywhere I grew up in Ontario 5 hours south of Ottawa (near Toronto aka the 6ix😂) but still the same province and I can honestly say the same thing
As a bisexual teen, I can say I don't find your comments in your past videos offensive. I actually find them funny. Quick funny story I was afraid to tell my mom I was bi... even though she was a lesbian... so I was a dumb kid.
That's more understandable than dumb. Bisexual people face a lot of erasure in the LGBT community. Being afraid she would try to box you into a different sexuality or be upset because she might not get grandkids is a perfectly reasonable concern. Hope it went well for you regardless.
Pfft, my coming out story is better. I texted one friend while I was in a different country and never never really told anyone else. I just wear a Bi bracelet and let people figure it out.
I live in rural Oklahoma and almost everyone I know is against gay pride and BLM. My dad called my brother gay because he wore pink a lot. My brother isn't gay but that made him wear pink more often lol
Omg I love it!! My ex stepdad was rather misogynistic and er, not very understanding of everything (I came out as bi and he had a massive issue with the fact that I was "labelling myself" and we had several arguments about the existence of pride month since) but my younger brother is against anything that will make him look feminine in the slightest because of it and it really saddens me sometimes
I’m bi and I personally had no issue with the whole “coming out as holosexual” when it happened nor do i have an issue with it now. i can see how other LGBTQ+ members could but I always use humor to make light of serious things and i think cristine is the same way
as a fellow bi person i agree, the coming out thing is totally ok to get upset with but i also think that it doesnt reflect upon cristine’s personal views of the lgbtq community :p i feel think the real problem was how drawn out the holosexual branding was across the channel imo- it stopped being funny after a point and just became kinda uncomfortable and annoying (this is only my opinion though, its totally ok if you enjoyed the whole holosexual thing at its peak :D)
- moocowtheperson - I did enjoy it at it’s peak as a bisexual woman facing persecution but I was glad it stopped too. I know it could be offensive to some and that’s totally okay
Exactly what I was going to say, down to the same orientation! I didn’t have a problem with it, and I appreciated knowing you supported us, Cristine. I can see why someone would see it differently, but I wasn’t hurt by it. Granted I live in America, and I came out in the 90’s... I have seen much worse, and have grown to expect much worse!...
I’m bisexual, I have literally NEVER thought that “holosexual” is offensive, I still don’t, because why should it be? Of course we can’t invalidate the people who are offended, but I don’t see a reason to be.
i never found the "holosexual" to be offensive. But i do remember when she "came out" and that did offput me. As someone who had a well... horrific time coming out, i thought the joke was kinda insensitive if not invalidating of my own experience. But as a straight person, she can never know what that feels like. So knowing it came from a place of good intentions and ignorance does make a difference, so we let it slide.
Same, I'm bi and don't think "holosexual" is offensive. Using "coming out" as a holosexual in a title is more offensive tho imo because it's such insensitive clickbait.
@@paigegross8085 I agree as a lesbian, coming out as a joke is insensitive and disrespectful but holosexual is honest funny and I've never seen it as offensive
THAT is EXACTLY how I want to tell all of the fvckwits at school that I am Pansexual because at my school people use the idea of being gay as an offence
I, a lesbian don’t think the “I’m coming out as a holosexual” was offensive especially for me, a long time viewer who knows who you are and that you are very much not homophobic and very supportive but I can understand if someone who wasn’t really familiar with you being offended, because it could be taken as a little snarky So I am glad you mentioned it. But calling your subscribers holosexuals and saying it still feels fine and just a fun harmless channel joke
I agree! I think if Simply had ever made fun of LGBTQ+ ppl or made some offensive jokes before, it wouldn’t have gone down well, but seeing as shes such a huge ally and she’s literally so sweet, it’s not offensive at all. It’s funny and I’m proud to call myself LGBTQ+ AND a holosexual :)
As a straight American, living in a solid BLM protesting area I do love the pride but not with the American flag reference. I’m simply not proud to be an American and I am proud to support LGBTQ 🏳️🌈
It’s not even really that, it’s just a stupid thing Cristine made up to define herself and it wasn’t made in mockery of lgbt so there’s really no problem with it lol
@@petrichorthoughts whilst I (panromantic, asexual and trans) never found it offensive, people were offended by it because homophobes would use the “I’m a _____sexual” joke about children to make fun of the stereotype that lgbtq people are pedophiles and would also use the joke to make fake sexualities to mock the community, I can understand why people were offended by this.

I just hope that she'll come back stronger, just like Michelle Phan did.
"The world is not ending, it's just changing" is actually a really cool and insightful thing to say, it feels obvious but when you look at all the unrest in the world, it shows how resistant people can be to change and it's really cool 2015 Simply said that.
When I was 16 I became pregnant and my family turned me out and turned their backs on me. I was living in a car and just not in a good situation to raise a baby so I made the insanely difficult choice to put him up for adoption. Well, a few days ago SHE finally found me!!!! I couldn’t find her because I was searching for her birth name which of course was too much of a boy name and didn’t fit her now. She is beautiful!!!! AGREED!! Also not everyone “needs” to have the same opinions & values. As long as it’s not endangering/harming anyone or violating the rights of others NO ONE should care what someone else is doing in their life..PERIOD! Discriminating against someone solely based on their physical appearance, culture, sexual orientation, etc that they have ZERO control is just ignorant/stupid/cruel! Even if someone doesn’t care about the feelings of others one would THINK that such discriminatory people would choose to NOT garner so much hate...as hate makes you miserable. So it just doesn’t make any sense!🤨🤨 Just like people constantly watching & commenting videos by people they hate on RUclips. Do people ACTUALLY ENJOY being angry & full of hatred?!?

Yes! I barely want to go on the internet except to stream movies or tv shows because all I see is hateful/hurtful comments everywhere. It's really messed with my mental health and I just feel like there needs to be more compassion and thinking on the part of everyone. Like, yes this person could be wrong and hurtful, but that doesn't mean it's ok to be hurtful back. Educating someone who's ignorant is really important, but you also might need to do it many times for it to get through to them. Also, canceling someone isn't going to help. We should be having a respectful conversation with them to try to educate and understand where they're coming from as well. With only cancelling someone, we aren't able to do that because it's basically shutting them up. My whole undergrad degree was in Sociology and it was basically just being respectful, but trying to educate and learn about others and their experiences.

Imagine having to come out twice, damn!! you're hella brave my guy ! ^^ and ye, it is a nice little joke, and it's spread a lot across people who just really like holo!
It's different for who the person is, some people dont like gay jokes as much as others. I personally didnt get offended by the holosexual joke, but I can understand where they came from as I can find some "gay jokes" my family makes to be offensive and hurtful, rather than funny.
Firstly I’m a pan trans male so uh what up gang, and secondly yeah, this didn’t offend me, what offends me if people genuinely coming out as something from the LGBT+ community as a joke, saying you’re holosexual as a joke is just a joke, because it’s not a real sexuality, but saying you’re trans or gay as a joke is when it becomes an awful thing to do
Even if 90% of LGBTQIA+ folks watching don't have any problem with the joke, I think Cristine still is concerned with how the other 10% feel. It's good to avoid hurting people's feelings, even if those people are in the minority.
Cristine explaining how she’s never really come in contact with anyone who is a conservative asshole really blew my mind... i’m the only liberal person in my family with a few exceptions, and i never get to see them. and also very few friends as well. i didn’t know towns like Ottawa really existed... i’m jealous lmao
Taylor Alexis I honestly believe Cristine is either very limited in who she comes into contact with (and who she actually speaks to about this particular topic) or she’s giving the people around her credit they don’t deserve. Unfortunately, there are some nasty aspects of Ottawa too. I live a couple hours away, but I have family there and my son is going to the university of Ottawa in September. Like I said in another comment, we are definitely lightyears ahead of the US, but she’s unfortunately glorifying Ottawa a little bit. Just like every other big city, it has its issues too, and to pretend otherwise is naive. I love Cristine, but her privilege definitely allows her a different experience than most.
Teri Birrell that’s a great point. while i wish i lived in an area like ottawa where people have the same liberal ideas as me, i’m sure it has people who aren’t so great too.
DJ exactly. She lives in one of, if not the, wealthiest areas of Ottawa, and works for the government, where of course people aren’t going to outwardly portray their hatred or ignorance for fear of being fired. It’s awesome that she grew up in an accepting family, but not everyone is that fortunate. She also doesn’t come from a religious background, like I do, where a lot of people use religion as an excuse to hate. BS about the Bible saying it’s a sin for man to lay with man and blah blah blah that I’ve heard my whole life from my aunt... in Ottawa.
Idk im just vibin lmao i like how they brought up you as a fetus, as if to emphasize the idea that babies that grow up to be liberals are just a waste-yet they’re probably pro-life💀
"people may have changed their minds in the last five years" i just wanna come out and say i was one of those people who left nasty comments on that other video but after doing a lot of researching and learning and growing (15 to 20 years old lol) ive changed my views and have become a lot more accepting of the lgbt community and im glad for these kind of videos that show how much can happen

Why is no one commenting that she revealed a new holo taco product?? Cuticle pusher! And I would assume a cuticle oil is coming out soon too cause of the eyes on it. 👀
Ok we we aren’t gonna talk about how She’s leaking a nail tool kit 🤭 she had a cuticle pusher in this rainbow-ish color WITH HER LOGO ON IT!!!, a brush, another cuticle tool, Maybe her own nail vinyls, and tweezers all in the same rainbow-ish color! 🤯(Except for the nail vinyls the nail vinyls are black)
For the cuticle tools I'm pretty sure that they are part of the same tool. Generally, cuticle pushers are dual ended and one side has the actual cuticle pusher while the other has that spatula-looking tool which helps to scrape off dead cuticle skin off of your nail plate. 😊😊😊
we allready knew about the oil, and it was coming that she would make a complete tool set. i kinda hope as a gimmick she'll add a thootpick holder too :D

God can you imagine. It's only been 5 years since they legalized us gays. Like. That's so weird to think about. Only 5 years ago, we weren't allowed to marry our same sex? That's such a short amount of time and yet it feels like forever ago

The only homophobic people I know are my great aunts one of whom is a nun lol

Quick funny story I was afraid to tell my mom I was bi... even though she was a lesbian... so I was a dumb kid.
I’m also bi :3
That's more understandable than dumb. Bisexual people face a lot of erasure in the LGBT community. Being afraid she would try to box you into a different sexuality or be upset because she might not get grandkids is a perfectly reasonable concern. Hope it went well for you regardless.
That's not dumb at all! It's okay to be afraid, but don't let it hold you back from being you! I hope you're happy now! ❤️
Man, as an aroace, wish my dad didn’t just say it was a phase and that like I got my view of romance from media and movies or whatever. But eh 🤷🏻♂️

As a gay guy, I agree, I thought the joke was actually pretty wholesome.

and ye, it is a nice little joke, and it's spread a lot across people who just really like holo!
BS about the Bible saying it’s a sin for man to lay with man and blah blah blah that I’ve heard my whole life from my aunt... in Ottawa.
bless you family. your mom raised you in her for 9 months just so you can grow up to be a liberal liptard :_(

i'm not gonna lie, that made my whole day, because i've been in a deep depression pit & showered once this week. thank you for validating me cristine 🥺🥰
Elias Amity you got this! I’m going through this too! We can do it
Omgg do True, I feel you! Goin through the exact same thing here... But hey, let’s just keep our heads up💪🏻🌈
Ok. If u r going through something fine, but bruh go shower
@@lisawhitfield1318 omg leave that in ur head
Good job ❤
“I think rainbows look good with or without the social commentary.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.🌈
Exactly!
Jesus loved having sex with men
@@Kai-vp1oh please don't that's actually really offensive to followers of Jesus😔 it's true he supported people deemed as sinners but he never engaged in worldly temptations
@@liviwall662 gay sex isn't a sin, it's fun and cool
@@Kai-vp1oh are you trying to be antagonizing on purpose? Premarital sex is the issue and Jesus never engaged in anything of the sort. Would you make fun of other religious figures? If you're gonna target one religion at least target them all instead of trying to be purposely offensive
Cristine saying top coat instead of “taco”
Me : wait that’s illegal
Edit: fixed cristine for your sake
Yay one sub cristine w/o a H
cristine*
Lmao I knew people would be correcting you 😂😂
Cristine with no GODDAM H
Hawken lol
As a gay person, thank you. You're addressing and growth of the past things you said and did actually made me very happy and proud to support you. Although I wasn't offended by those jokes I thank you for the apology and accept it. You have growth and maturity which so many lack. So many people try and do a quick "sorry" without actually showing change, but you didn't.

I’m not worried lol

I'm homosexual and holosexual
@@rockeater27 same we r so swag
Me: being gay
Me: yess get it
its kinda bad that almost everyone is getting canceled, quitting or explaining themselves for their past and what they've done or said, when this proves that even the nicest people can accidentally rub people the wrong way when they didn't have that intent in mind
Lol are you talking about the us justice system lol
i guess some people could’ve taken issue with “holosexual” but that’s literally nothing compared to people like shane who did videos in black face dozens of times and repeatedly said the n word and disgusting comments about children.
Yeah its complete n utter bs and im sick becuz of it.
May i add he said in video with his ex that his kissed 5 12 year olds that were his fans spill sesh commted on the clip on Twitter
Jenna 🙁
I cried two days straight when I found out she might not be posting anymore.
"I just... I don't understand it."
Same girl, same.
Why discrimination is still a thing in 2020. The whole world is on fire already, how about we just accept people's differences and try to support each other.
Literally. Like we need to focus on surviving WE DONT HAVE TIME for these
i remember in 2017 telling my mom i’m a holosexual she told me don’t say that people will get the wrong idea but I just turned out to be gay anyway
Underrated comment 😆
the same thing happened to me, I came out as holosexual then a year later I came out as homosexual
same 😭

the ultimate plot twist
this year has been so long 😭 I thought this was a video from like, 2 years ago. Then she started talking about covid and everything and I can't believe this is such a recent video
In 5 years, cristine will do this again and you won't be able to EVEN SEE THE COLOR.
*IT IS ONLY HOLO*
It'll just be like a 1% tint of colour in there
It’ll be like “I’ll take this orange colour” and she pulls a lever and the room just F I L L S with orange holo
I doubt she will last 5 more years
"male species, youve InCReaSeD!" - cristine the holo queen 2020 😂😂
God can you imagine. It's only been 5 years since they legalized us gays. Like. That's so weird to think about. Only 5 years ago, we weren't allowed to marry our same sex? That's such a short amount of time and yet it feels like forever ago
i know- time is so weird
In Australia it’s only been 2 years :(
still not legal where i live 🥺
That’s insane like seriously if it were five years ago my sister wouldn’t be married to the love of her life 😭😭😭
They’re trying to make it illegal here in Puerto Rico
simply reflecting on herself: *simply matured*
She’s not even being called out on this stuff right now and she’s out here apologizing for all her problematic jokes. Love that, what a queen
Unfortunately, that will never be enough for some people.
ALSO, thank you for not showing homophobia onscreen. Homophobes deserve no representation ;)
I'm queer. I'm proud. I do my nails to relax and I love watching you and your cats, and I love watching how you handle these things. 10/10 Cristine, keep up the good work. Working, learning, paying attention, listening, and being open about it. Thank you.
No matter how u feel about Simply, you cannot deny she has been a model ally for the LGBTQ+ community for many years... before it was trendy to do so on RUclips. I've always appreciated when she and Ben bring up serious and "controversial" topics, because they always made really good points. She has been the perfect embodiment of what a good RUclipsr should be!
i agree! she’s always had entertaining AND educational/important videos and i’ve been a fan of hers almost as long as i’ve had youtube!
yess. as a lesbian i couldnt agree more
All I was thinking about during the video was "Damn Cristine is aging WELL" She looks younger now then she did then
Wait she doesn’t know one person who’s against LGBT+ members? I’m moving to Ottawa
Can I come to America is getting to me
Vanessa Pandora Give me five minutes gotta bubble wrap my holo 😂
Same. Im not LGBT+ but I just hate being around people against basic human rights.
Victoria Same I’ve stopped talking to everyone I know against it and LIFE IS LOOKING UP
I live in Toronto but one time I took a vacation to New York
I literally SAW a bunch of white dudes holding signs against gay rights, it was fucking culture shock
As a pansexual trans man i've never thought that the joke "i'm coming out as holosexual" as something thats offensive. It was horrifying for me to come out because of my grandmother being so anti-gay I was terrified of her finding out and I understand some people are a little uneasy about those kinds of jokes and I get it but I wish that it was more acceptable to make what I would consider a harmless joke.
Hi there my fellow pansexual! I’m also not offended by it, I find it hilarious honestly.
I love how your comment is so polite💕
U should do Avatar: The Last Airbender nailart and do four nails of each element symbol and do Aang’s arrow tattoo on ur ring or middle finger
Please though, that would be AMAZING!!
Aliciana Howse
YESSSSS AVATAR IS MY LIFEE
Omg yessss, I wish I had thought of it first. I would love to see that.
YESSSSSS
Yessssss please 😭 I need this
I like how she didnt even wait for someone to talk about it or anything, she just brought it up because she saw how she messed up, and has changed, and apologized
"I've never seen THOSE people in person" lucky you, my whole extended family is one of THOSE people....
Same :(
hahahahahaha same I'm never coming out I can't afford to get disowned tbh
Same with mine :/
Maria Kryukova same :’(
Those people are my best friends family
Honestly, as a pan trans man I think, “I’m coming out as a holosexual” was hilarious! And before anyone says that I only think this because I didn’t have a hard coming out experience, my grandpa told me that they should use the gays as moving targets and tried to shoot me.
I'm so sorry for your experience!
Oh I'm so sorry you had that experience. I hope you're surrounded by more understanding people now
I also found it funny, but I can see why other people might get offended
That's a whole other level of "hard coming out".
Please forgive my ignorance, but what is pan? I only understand it as, like Spanish for "bread". (Pls don't get mad at me tryna conceal my ignorance with a dumb joke)
Her honesty with “black lives matter” and “love is love” is everything
Love is love but all lives matter please please don't discriminate anybody Because of who they are what they are or the color of their skin
@@ilenesmith8238 if all lives matter then you'd have no problem with the phrase black lives matter.
@@ilenesmith8238 saying black lives matter isn't to say all other lives don't matter or that black lives are the only ones that do matter. It's to say that black lives are valuable and you shouldn't have to be or in fear of being hurt, killed, or incarcerated for being black.
@@animekrazy93 thank you! So many people are not educated properly on what blm actually means to the point where I'm just sick of explaining because it becomes repetitive
@@souleater1937 well said!
She’s not even getting canceled and is talking about how ignorant she was. This is REAL growth
