- Here's the chords that (for me anyway) make this song work so well.
This is based on the Paul Weller version.
I don't own the copyright, this is just for tuition and your pleasure...

well done Perfect
Thank you. Glad it was helpful.
Great! Love the open chords!
VERY COOL THANKS
Hmm, nice simple version. I've been trying to learn the PP&M version and the best chord progression I have come across is in Bb (their key) played in G with a capo at the 3rd fret. It's a neat progression but takes a while to get your head around, a little unique. The first line is G/Bm-Am/ D7/G/, the second is
G/Am/D7/G, with the third G/Am/D7/G and the last back to G/Bm-Am/D7/G. It's a symmetrical pattern. Your Gm to F#m sort of captures that feel but it looks like you are doing it for every line whereas this one only does that the first and last lines.
Thanks.
Possibly a SUS? CHORD. Sounds like one? This version sounds like the Album. Thanks!!
RIP GL.
God save the King and England...
thanks! it's great!
Thank you.
You are in drop D arent you?
Working way too hard. All of the Major 7's you are using sound weird. It can all be done in open standard chords, either in C or G finger patterns. Use a capo where you like it.
The Foxes & Fossils have a nice version using both, and of course Peter, Paul and Mary made all the money on it playing a G pattern Capo 3. Gordon Lightfoot uses the D finger pattern Capo 3 but that is not that common.
If you play along with the Weller version this sounds perfect
