Up until about 5 years ago, i never needed „motivation“.. I never understood why people were always talking about motivation and the lack of it..
But in the last years, i constantly feel „defeated“, „unmotivated“ and „slow“ with everything i do, or want to do.
Life hits different when you get older. Everything is much more difficult, a lot more new problems come out of nowhere and clutter your life..
The last 2 years were filled with health problems and „bad luck“.. just yesterday i had to get a healthy tooth pulled, which was a 2,5 hour operation.. My knee started hurting, just when my back injury of 1 year just slightly got less bad.. and not to mention my body being extremely weak and overwhelmed with everything, due to the said back injury keeping me in bed for way too long..
Long story short: don‘t get old.
Also, everything finance related seems to have sucked my joy of life and the world straight out of my soul..
so another tip: just be rich.

I’m struggling with this sometimes and I consider photography to my “therapy.” I shoot film and digital. I’ve also fallen down the rabbit hole of vintage lenses. My go to digital is a Nikon z5 and my go to film camera is either a Nikon f100 or FM. Recently a friend loaned me his Nikon d750 which has been sitting idle in a camera bag. We don’t get fog here very often and the past couple days we’ve had some great fog. That alone really got me motivated. I call fog “natures photoshop plugin.” I threw a few manual f mount lenses into the bag with the d750 and went out after dark in the fog. Wow and wow. This turned out expensive as now I want a d750. lol. Even though I’ve got a few film cameras with great viewfinders somehow I forgot how wonderful on optical viewfinder on a dslr is. One of my absolute favourite lenses is a Meyer 29mm f2.8 which was modified by a previous owner to f mount. This was such a joy to use on the d750. So this lens + d750+ fog have thrown my creative urges into overdrive. Thanks for this message and all of your creative efforts.

That's awesome! Yeah, fog is great, it makes it feel like a different world (especially if you don't get it often where you live!). Thanks for checking out the video 🙂

I gave up completely, for 14 years! Came back 2 years ago to shoot birds, then Fujifilm and past year excited about film on rangefinders, SLRs & medium format. I think trying a different camera or lens every now & then will help get you out, or switching to b&w was a good one!

Sometime I just get lost in the why I'm shooting like I need to justify it, or have some story or significance to it, and I have to remind myself that by doing that I'm kinda missing the point haha, as those are a happy bi-product in a way. Not sure if that makes sense, but anyway good video!

A temporary change of location if you’re in a position to travel. A 20 minute walk into another nearby area is cheap way. Another country also provides inspiration, seeing how other societies operate. 📷 ❤

My motivation to starting to shooting again came from a new /old camera. I have really never liked rangefinder cameras & I have tried many Yashica Elecro 35, Leica M3 & Leica IIIf, all in perfect shape all with CLA for examples & we just didn't click. No pun intended. I don't know why but I saw a beautiful Canon 7 for sale & I purchased it. I know Leica fans it isn't a Leica but for me I just loved it. It has really started me being motivated & I would like to think creative. I realize GAS is a bad word but for me it worked.

Enjoyed this outdoor chat Hashem! Curating Our Stories on Film zine was my motivation last year. It felt like a hard slog sometimes to create my own work so having a project that was focused on the community and seeing other people’s different perspective was really inspiring to me. I mean, a new camera or lens always helps my motivation too 😆 Also very much drawing inspiration from movies too, especially those shot on film ! The colours in Poor Things and All of us Strangers has been the favs lately. Hope you enjoyed the zine!!

Thanks Joey! I can tell a lot of work went into it, it was really nice. Haha yeah outside inspiration is great, loving how plenty of movies are still being shot on film as well :-)

I think photographer as a hobby becomes a great teacher for life in general.
We need to work even when we don't want to, and ultimately repetition outweighs talent, which then creates meaningful work.
    Good video!

Good tips Hash! I think I resonate with the second tip most. Choosing today to push through is always good.
There's a quote that your tip reminds me of. "You could be good today, instead you choose tomorrow - Marcus Aurelius"

I appreciate this video a lot. Especially the beginning. I've been in a bit of a lull over the last year and a half (with the exception of November). So I took up drawing, so I would at least scratch that creative itch. It's been paying off so far. Slowly I'm getting back into my old groove with photography. An additional upside, I now have an extra creative pursuits to lean on when I need a break from the other.

Yikes! Yeah there is a an English publication, that's the one I have. It was readily available back then but seems to be out of print and hard to find now, unfortunately.
