The one thing I’m jealous of the US school system for is the fact that learning a language (predominately Spanish I’m assuming?) is offered as a subject in schools. In Australia, primary school we didn’t have any languages to learn and in my high school it was Japanese (I could never understand kanji so didn’t take it). I think it’s a necessary and convenient flex to be able to speak and understand another language

I did Japanese in grade 6 and 7 and German in grade 8 and 9 and it was offered in senior school but I had no interest in it cause the teachers were the worst 😑 and I know other schools teach/taught LOTE but yeah I dont think it's pushed that much, tends to be a bludge subject. I agree LOTE should be a necessity, I did linguistics in uni and it honestly changed my whole outlook on culture and language, would highly recommend looking into it!

Basically people think that you are supposed to know how to say EVERY SINGLE WORD in a language just because you say you’re bilingual and that’s not how language works. I’m impressed…and I actually really like your Spanish accent.
