What makes these clips great is not just the priceless stories from the golden days but the attitude of both Mr Jobe and Mr Higginson. Seems like the nicest guys talk about the greatest of times with pure enthusiasm and wear those spontaneus smiles that tell more than a thousand words. Thank you again for this fantastic document which, especially for us who didn't have the chance to be present back in the day, is almost like a time machine!
+ImForwardlook And thank you for taking the time to make a comment. This is what keeps us all going strong. The fact that someone out there cares. Continue to enjoy. I really does...get better. :)
+Mike Coker Hi Mike. Did you find the other episodes ok? We are up to 6 now. Also consider subscribing to my channel. There is no money required and all it really does is automatically notify you by email when the next episode pops up. Take care. Bill
Thank you so much for this series! It is an amazing insight to what I consider the golden age of drag racing and for that matter Southern California. Must have been great times.
+TheGsemech Yes, Sir. It was. I was 13 years old when the Surfers first "hit the scene", and just know it's true that they had a sound all their own. Then add in the other amazing cars of the era and you can imagine how easily my imagination got swept away. Thank you for commenting.
Thank you for this series, but I noticed a small error. The beginning shot, titled sunrise over the great LA basin, is actually a sunset. It's taken from somewhere in the San Gabriel mountains toward the coast, over the basin.
I'm thinking you got to be pretty good with a torch to braze 4130 tubing. But I never tried it. NHRA won't let you do that anymore and they won't even let you grind your welds smooth now.
There is a later video where they talk about when they attempted to braze the chassis. But in the original build that Tom is talking about it was gas welded not brazed. Fair enough on not grinding welds to be honest. If the welds good you shouldn’t really have to.
@@WilliamPayneNZ Yeah I guess they want to see your tie in each side. Not like you can do a vertical break test. If I can't stick it with a 7018 or nickel rod or something I don't need to be playing with it anyway And.I know that ain't kosher with 4130 tubing.
My uncle was Don Yates Yates Brothers I think they had the Ramcharger at one point do you remember Don Yates he was out of Manhattan Beach used to run at Lyon's San Fernando and Bakersfield let me know bro curious his ship look just like you're that crazy have on the opening

+EVILisEVILdoes Perfect!
the great old days .
Question: Did they have a tig welder and the ability to tig weld up their own chassis?
Jobe gas welded the chassis.
god, i love this series. when sex was safe and race cars dangerous!
Hi Jeff. Glad you like what's been done up to know. And thanks for letting us know you like it.
Take care. Bill
Ooops............I should have waited longer before I asked that question.

@@icewaterslim7260 while I wouldn’t call 4130 exotic but welding specialty metals is a lot of fun if you do it properly.
