Hello Pil! I’m French. And I love your channel. I didn’t know Duffy, thanks for the discovery, I’ll listen more. And thanks for our friend Jimi, who I love. It’s always a real pleasure to follow you. Thanks again.
Dude, the first 15 seconds, your playing with the strat and amps and whatever else, is so warm and such a good vibe I could've listen to you for an hour straight ,playing the hell outta this song, dang Man! the tone is so warm. right up Jimi Hendrix Avenue.damn I Love this !!
This was very surprising and also very beautiful. If this was a song on Spotify I would directly add it to my playing list and play it over and over again. This version I mean. Duffy meets Hendrix meets Guitar Pilgrim!
hendrix just nails the ultimate guitar technique playing chords and embelishments using scales. i truly get how beautiful you feel about hendrix, to me it felt like i stumbled a goldmine when i started learning his tech.
Great song! Missing Duffy big time. Such a sad story with what she went through. Hopefully she will build confidence and record again. Fingers crossed with all my heart ♥️
Great video Thom. I too was a fan of Duffy and wondered what happened to her so it's good to read below that she may be making a comeback soon. The intro is indeed very Hendrixy but it also reminds me of Steve Cropper and his playing with Otis Redding, especially on the song "My Girl".
Love your enthusiasm with your teaching the song and when your playing with Duffy at the end was so so good! Thanx Thom always look forward to your next project!
Thanks so much for this. I've never listened to Duffy but you just opened my eyes. I need an old new artist in my life. What a great song and thank you so much for explaining it. I will learn it. Keep up the great work!
Thom , there is a back story to Duffy's disappearance , she was badly abused and confined to a house for 3 years by her so called partner and has told her story a few months ago. She is slowly recovering and is hoping to get back to performing soon. Fine video sir, take care.
lol, great job Pilgrim! I've been playing this song in a similar fashion for a few years now after a young singer that went to our jams wanted to perform it. I figured since she sang our old fart songs and had fun, the least we could do was learn this one for her. there were two things that surprised me about learning this song...one was how tricky it was to get down, and two how much I'd love it after I did! ☺ I still play Warwick Avenue for myself regularly just to keep the chords under my fingers, and because it's such a fun tune to play. we also used to do Duffy's version of 'Mercy' as well.
I did an arrangement like this (yours is oblviously better than mine) one year ago, when I performed this beautiful song live with my band. I just saw this and I said "whoah, the Maestro Thom Helwig also plays this part like this, so cool". Great work Thom, one of the coolest and most inspiring guitarists on youtube😍😁
Beautiful stuff Pilgrim. Truly admire your talent and your technical facility, your passion for all-things-music as well. I've been playing guitar for a _long_ time, but I always pick up something helpful in your posts, thanks for all that you share.
You could be her producer or guitarist or guitarist/producer. It's an interesting thought, putting Hendrix on existing songs. You might have something....making a good song great.
Il est trop beau ce morceau, cette suite d'accords Hendrixiene est magnifique, quand à la voix magique de cette nana....que dire? J'adore ta chaîne,que de la belle musique
"Rockferry" is such a great blue-eyed soul album full of tasty guitar playing. Many don't Remember but Duffy was more popular and sold more albums than Adele first album "19" in the UK but after this Adele skyrocket recording her second album "21", and Duffy went silent after her less succesful second album "Endlessly" its a shame so much great songs better than Adele in my opinion.
@@GuitarPilgrim Yeah definetely I didn't understand all the Adele hype. You should do "Serious" by Duffy video too, theres so beautiful, tasty, soulful outro solo in this song that I didn't hear nearly anywhere else.
@@krieng Duffy isn’t a straight pop act like Adele is. Adele is great at what she does, but it just isn’t my thing. Duffy also got lost in the mix a bit after Winehouse died. Especially in the U.S., but I’ll hear a song of hers every know again in a series or movie. I’ve always dug Duffy’s.
@@CorbCorbin It depends, how we call it. I Remember that durning the 2007 - 2010 after Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" album there where several singers which in media were called retro-pop singers from that era Duffy and Adele emerged after big success of Amy Winehouse. "Mercy" the biggest Duffy single was definetely pop for me, but its a matter of label only, for me the most of "Rockferry" is come back to the blue-eyed soul from 60s 70s.
Great work, Guitar Pilgrim! I'm sure it's the same for most guitarists, but there are certain chords that induce an involuntary groan any time I hear them played. In this video, it was the F#add9 - "argh!". Thanks for sharing such consistently inspiring content.
Oh man, just heard Duffy on the radio and thought "wait, where's the guitar? What ist that an odd version? Then realized, it was the original. But have to say, that you gave this song so much more vibe. Thank's for that. (And, maybe more to thank you for, you brought me and my old guitar together again.)
I bought her album when it came out. She's like a modern Dusty Springfield. Great voice and feel for soul. I'm still wondering what pickups are in that guitar.
This is obviously not Duffy "with" Hendrix, since Aimee Anne Duffy wasn't born till 14 years after Hendrix's death. And she didn't co-write and record "Warwick Avenue" till 2008, 38 years after Hendrix's death.

She has had a hard time she was abducted and bad things happened...
Maybe Duffy could do a remix with yourself on guitar if she ever returns to music. 👍
John Mayer used to cover Duffy's Mercy. He (Mayer) described it as a Howlin Wolf tune
I absolutely love these explanation video's
Hey Mr guitar pilgrim are you related to Scott Pilgrim by any chance
Please do more Jimi Hendrix meets... lessons! Such a great way to learn

Amazing... to mix this into Hendrix style... Sounds incredible 😮. I'm learning it right away, it's a very creative add to play... Thank you 👍
Sending out big love to Duffy she is amazing.
Always loved it. Love it even more now. Maybe, she’ll come back, and re-record with just you on guitar… hang on, you’ve just done it!
And you can throw in some Hendrix meets Temptations meets Duffy meets My Girl. :)

Would be amazing
This song just killed me. And , yes , there is a Jimi feel. And so much Motown. And that woman is telling a story! I'm wiping tears.
It's getting even better each time. Gorgious video! And yet another ear opener. Thank you!
Beautiful treatment Mr Pilgrim. I just love the way you play the Hendrixy stuff.

Stepping Stone. That song takes me somewhere special.
I've always loved this song and now i'm finally gonna play it in my favorite guitar stile!
❤ Jimi, thx a lot
Love that soft voice ….. very Norah Jones but different enough to be her own

Another great video, love your content. Everything is so well done.. Could you do a Eddie Hazel video or maggot brain tutorial? Thank you
So much in this, groove, rythym and licks. Love it ❤️😍☝️
You are a genius. Much respect 👍🙌
Love that, man. Great.
Just found this channel last night....this guitarist is....CRAZEE....(I'm smitten!!)

Great combination. You are an inspiration.
Mate, that was brilliant !!!
Talented, Beautiful and Welsh. What more could you ask for?

Excellent lesson as usual...keep it up :-)

Holy moley!

Plays piano, like, uh, someone really good who plays piano!
Great Tutorial Thom
Wonderful job, great song 's Duffy, thank you for all
Wow, great! Thanks for reminding me of that song. There’s a lot to learn there.
Great arrangement
Great version ,can I ask what model strat you are using and how are you getting sound i.e amp/guitar rig etc
I only wish I could give this video five thumbs up! Brilliant!
Duffy was kidnapped is the reason she disappeared.

Thanks , always a treat and inspiring.
Wow, a very Hendrix sound!
Great Video, thanks!👏 What about a video about Richard Smith's "The Entertainer" Cover?😁
Hi Tom can you say what kind of pedals & effects you use???? Sounds amazing !!!
She had some very very scary stalker issues, that's why she disappeared. Such a shame, she was great.
similar Hendrixy vibes in Valerie
This guy is good on the guitar
Fantastic as always, thanks
That was an amazing video on all accounts.........
Thát sounds a million times BETTER than my version (now) F.up!!✌👌👏
Yeah I loved her. Adele kinda stepped into her void.
Fantastic tone. Still pure Guitar Rig 6?
Yep, preset is "right in the middle"
Beautiful ..
Thanks for this but I didn't know the backstory.
I think Duffy needs to collaborate on some new material with you Thom :)
Love your lessons
