What a brilliant interview! We really have lost a legend. Not only an outstanding artist (one of the best) but an awesome guy. Thanks for all the untold hours of enjoyment you have brought us.
What’s awesome is the look he gave the camera when he mentioned how many heads he had drawn on the cover to Crisis #5. The slight sassy head shake basically saying “I’m George Perez, of course I went nuts and added a ton of detail!” He definitely was one of a kind and will be forever missed!
I first experienced George Perez’s artwork in FF184 as an 11-year old. Totally blown away then, and have been a life long fan ever since. Thank you for giving us this insight into the great man behind he phenomenal talent!
11:12 to 11:32, George Perez puts his thumb PRECISELY on half the problem with comics from the mid-80s to the mid-90s. (The OTHER half---- that is ---- the whole speculator boom where people bought comics primarily for their future resale value--- he gets to that later in the interview.) And then 5 years after this, with the retro asthetic in Avengers vol. 3, he (and Kurt Busiek) show EVERYBODY how it's done. We have truly witnessed the loss of a legend. Rest in peace, Mr. Perez.
