  • Czechia knows the name of the artists and the song representing them at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö. Will she put the country on the Pedestal? Can she do it and what she needs to do to achieve it?

Eurovision is my passion. Eurovision was my work and I am still gladly part of the professional community of this project. I started at Eurovision 2016 as Czech Head of Delegation. Such a Eurovision story! Form Eurovision in Sweden I went to antoher ESC experience. Kiiv 2017 Eurovision. This was my first and last failiur. Sometimes you need to learn trough losing even it is not plasant. We ended up 13 in the semifinal, second best score of Eurovision Czechia back then. But after this we established ESCZ national selection format. It was mostly held online. Because of this we found Mikolas Josef who went 6th at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Than 11th with Lake Malawi, at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Eurovision story is crazy. After finding all candidates and songs (-1) for ESCZ 2020 I resigned and left the television for working freelance.
Not to stop being part of Eurovision, I created this channel as I have an urge not to do just Eurovision Reactions from a different perspective. But also to do national selection reactions, watch others how they do their craft and also give a different approach for Eurovision fans.
I am very glad was part of many eurovision juries. Mostly in national selection and since 2017 I was in MGP Norway, Eurovision Malta, UMK national selection Finland. Juror in Melodifestivalen 2016. Biggest national selection. Also helped Eurovision Ireland, Eurovision Estonia, Eurovision Azerbaijan and many others.
Just amazing to be part of this community, so check my Humans of Eurovision, check my Eurovision reaction videos.

Great reaction. You're right - she's got so much confidence and is so comfortable on stage. The rest can be fixed - she's got literally half a year to improve! From interviews, it became so clear that she knows very well what Eurovision is about, she mentioned he stage idea of having a pedestal on the stage and Ancient Rome-inspired pillars around - it's great to hear she has a vision - unlike some other contestants! I wonder if she'll use the remaining 30s in some way or if she just keeps it short.

I hope it will stay like it is honestly.

I'm disappointed, but hopeful. I appreciate the sentiment of the song, but when the Czech voters only put her 5th, that doesn't indicate the country would be behind her. I wanted either the 2nd or 3rd place finishers to represent, and it seems the Czech voters did too (I voted internationally). Shouldn't the country's opinion hold more weight?

That was the system of rules everyone involved agreed on. I would for sure prefer it differently but it is not my choice and we need to respect this method

@@JanBorsThe issue is that the voting app was buggy, opening the door for fraud and mistakes. The winning margin was too high to seem legitimate. They put too much weight on the app vote, and didn't even bother normalizing the numbers, so poor math as well. The singers who signed up knew that the vote would be coming from two places, but I am sure they didn't know any details about the app nor the shoddy math. I find this result more egregious than Poland in 2023.

@@CoxaBrancamain problem with the app was that you couldn’t change your vote, so when some people pressed on the first song expecting to hear it or more information about it, they accidentally voted for aiko, hence the 30k vote for her probably

@@jordiv100 That happened to me, but I pressed Midy. I thought clicking the picture would give some information or play a snippet of the song, but it just recorded the vote and didn't even ask you to confirm your choice.

My first impression with "Pedestal" was that it reminded me of Olivia Rodrigo's discography, specifically with the pop-punk influences. That said, I do enjoy it, with the energy and the attitude she conveys.
RE the live performance: I think she has time to improve, but we'll have to see.
    Good luck Aiko!

Aiko was my second choice. Tomas Robin was my preference, regardless I'm very happy with Aiko. I absolutely agree with you that there definitely room for improvement for ESCZ as a show. I suspect that budget restraints were the issue; where I believe Serbia's PZE format is a good solution to stage it in a large TV studio (even if it can't fit in an audience). A TV studio is already a much more controlled environment equipt to present a show for TV. This gives the artist more opportunity to visually present their performance in a way that is suited to Eurovision; where as ESCZ felt too much like a live gig with cameras. Big difference. HOWEVER; I much prefer that ESCZ only has several contestants rather than 30 - 34 (like PZE) which at times feels too long and it becomes quickly clear who the top 10 artists will be in the contest anyway. Now, what do YOU think? 😁

I actually like the flexibility as here music formats in general are not modern established. One exception can be taken as Cesky Slavik which is huge thing in here but it goes with tradition and music not reliable for international appearance. Same applies for Ceny Andel which are even more minimalistic and also suffer with live singing quality issues. Simply we are not there yet in general.
The budget for ESCZ was visibly low for sure and for me this would not be such a problem to repeat it like this just with few changes. What you cannot change is the quality of singers who are not used to do live shows in TV (most of them) and were never really confronted with a contest. So this is the option for them to learn or for TV to pitch the ones who really can do it and not based on studio versions only.
Also comparism with Serbia is not accurate as their TV market is completely different and their show is primarly made for their audience and their sense of television tempo. Like in Italy.
Czech audience is more for dynamic and fast tempo formats like in Sweden but ofc TV will not invest so much money into this so lets be glad to have ESCZ live even like this.
Its a process, I am glad it is progressing somehow and all involved has a chance to learn.
What I would like is to put back much more reliable and quality content to social media which we were used to have but it is probably not a priority anymore last 2-3 years. The quality degres here is what concerns me much more.

@@JanBors ooh, this is a very insightful perspective, particularly about the TV market in Czechia, something I was not aware of. It makes sense now that simply taking another country's song contest format is not necessarily going to be a 'one size fits all'. The national selection process and presentation really does vary so much from country to country and now it makes more sense why. Thanks for your response. :-)

I hope she'll change a little bit the vibe of performance from national round. Right know it gives me Theodor Andrei from previous year which was kinda mess and felt a little cheap.

if the goal is to go to the finals for sure everything must be reworked
