  • Layton Ivins' father and grandmother share their story of losing this 16-year-old to fentanyl poisoning.
    ___________
YaYa's (Layton's grandmother) words from Layton's memorial service:
Layton James Ivins was our first-born grandchild. I am Lori, Layton’s YaYa. My husband Wayne is Papa.
Layton was a blessing to us from the day he was born, before he was born 16 years ago. He is now Forever 16. We are shattered, broken and numb. There is so much to say but its hard to make sense of the words. Your smile is forever engraved in our memory. Layton’s heart for his family, friends and others was so very big. He knew Jesus and we are comforted knowing he is in Our Father’s Presence.
At no time in my life did it ever cross my mind that I would be standing up here giving a eulogy at my grandsons funeral or writing his obituary.
    My heart breaks…
In the days following Layton’s death I was once again sitting on my couch crying. My 5 yr old granddaughter snuggles beside me and asks what’s wrong? I told her I was crying because I was so sad, I would never get to hug Layton or talk to him again. Her parents had already explained what happened to Layton and that he is in heaven. She gently rubs my arm and with the innocence of a child that has not be jaded by this world looks up at me and says “YaYa, you will talk to him and hug him when you get to heaven. Layton is in heaven talking to Annie right now (Annie is her dog she lost a few months back).” I pray that each of you know the innocence of a child.
I had the privilege of being a very involved YaYa in Layton’s and Kylon’s life. I will continue to be very involved in Kylon’s. I make no apologies for that.
When Cody or the boys needed me. School pick up lines, doctor appointments, birthday parties, school functions, teacher meetings, hours at the skate park, trampoline park, music lessons, sports practice and games the list is long.
As high school rolled around it was - bringing him and Ky lunch, or over to a friends house, to work and back, thrift store shopping. I never minded - it was never an inconvenience. It was an opportunity to be part of his life and to always see his smile.
Don’t get me wrong we had our share of heated conversations, disagreements, him not heeding my words of wisdom. But he always parted with a smile and “Love you YaYa”. You see “love ya” was his words after every phone call, when we were in the car, anytime he left. I hear stories from his friends he did this with them as well. Oh, Layton was such a kind, caring, compassionate soul. Even when I brought food at school, he was never embarrassed to hug me and say “love you”.
So I stand here today absolutely confident that Layton is in Our Father’s presence now. No mater if you walk away for a bit, Jesus is still with you.
    But my heart still hurts…
Layton’s assignment on this earth is complete. However, there will be ripple effects. Whether it is a reminder to a friend or stranger that one pill can kill and it saves a life on this earth. Yes, Layton died on January 22 from fentanyl poisoning. 1 laced pill. The persons complicit and responsible will be brought to justice. Layton’s death is still under investigation. We will not be quiet. Layton is now one of the hundreds of thousands of faces that died from fentanyl.
Another ripple effect of Layton’s death will be his testimony of Jesus. His character, his love for others, his acts of service, his being the light for someone else’s darkness. This effect will affect many with eternal life. I believe that will be his greatest legacy.
Oh my heart hurts, but I am at peace.
Layton, you are so loved and will forever be missed. Watch over us until we see you again. Forever in my heart. YaYa and PaPa

I live in Alabama. This happened to me 2 months ago. I am an adult that knows better; however, I took what I thought was a pain pill from a friend that got it from someone that I to this day still don't know for a horrible headache. After I took it, I drove home. The last thing I remember is that I went into my bathroom. I woke up the next day in ICU where I stayed for 5 days. Thank God that I am still here and I learned a huge lesson. Never ever again. These stories are so powerful and if only I would have watched them before, I would have never taken ANYTHING from anyone, not even a friend. Praying for these families and friends that have lost their loved ones and having to go through the worst pain. God bless you all.

A few years ago I came to the realization of the truth of Jesus Christ that he is real and is exactly who he claimed to be in the Bible. That doesn’t mean we don’t feel the pain but he’s with us walking through it and comforting us. This life is so hard sometimes and I just pray that everyone find peace in Christ Jesus and what he accomplished for us on the cross when he said “it is finished”

HEy rand, what a thing to say....imagine looking at the world around you and believing it could all come from nothing. Advancements in genetic research over the last couple of decades pretty much proves that life has intelligent design. DNA is literally your genetic code written by your creator...look up and research the molecular machines that are programmed by that creator to carry out all their specific jobs to keep your cells alive and your body functioning... a famous brain researcher described the brain as a machine that a ghost/ spirit can operate. You are more than Just a body, you are a spirit that is living in and operating that body. It’s amazingly complex.
And Jesus Christ is the God of all creation (who is a spirit )and who entered into his phisical creation and lived a perfectly sinless life and died for my sins and your sins so you and I could be reconciled to God.
If you reject Jesus and all that he’s done for you then when you die you have to take your own punishment for sins...

It will ruin your life. Invest in the books, not drugs or boys (school will give you a better return). Confidence is key. The war on drugs starts and ends with PARENTS -and then the schools. You can't say to a kid....pleaee don't do drugs. That's not profound enough to get through to them. They need to REALLY KNOW AND SEE THE CONSEQUENCES. My parents scared me into not trying and I'm so glad they did. It saved me. I am now an attorney. My click is in jail or no life, bums and addicted to drugs. Don't be scared to educate your kids. As a father of two sons (10 and 8) I was highly impressed how „settled“ Layton‘s father was as he told the tragic story of his son’s death. When he got overwhelmed by his emotions at the end of this video, oh boy that was really tough to watch cause I almost had to cry also.
I hope Layton‘s family will always have the faith on their side, and without judging someone by his religion they can be happy that they believe in God and Jesus, because it helps them to overcome the pain and grief.
So sorry for them, because it sounds like Layton was a really talented and gifted young man. I do only play two instruments (Drums and piano), I always have the highest respect for people who are able to play even more instruments.
And, I said it again and I will say it every time I watch a video from this series, thanks for making these episodes and I really hope they can and will prevent kids/teens/adults from dying because of only one pill.
„One pill can kill“… and one pill will kill, so please please please: Keep that in mind and don’t take any medicine/medications if you aren’t prescribed to them. I assume (and hope!) that no doctor will prescribe Fentanyl at all.
Again: Thx to „Texas Pictures Documentaries“ for making this series 🙏
With sad regards from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp

Great comment. I must agree. Only take prescribed meds, one pill can kill. Some folks don't metabolize certain pain meds tho so fentanyl very hard to get as an RX as so many people have abused pills including fentanyl. Someone in severe, real pain (not just taking a pill to feel high) can't even get it legally anymore much unless ithat has changed. There are too many people who can't handle emotional pain so turn to drugs or alcohol.

@@DavidJones-ib3zy David, you are right, 100 percent! 🙏 Without knowing the stats behind „Fentanyl Poisoning“ here in Germany, even „we“ should produce such strong and powerful episodes to prevent a crisis. Fentanyl deaths or opiate deaths in general aren’t in the news at all (again: Here in Germany), but our News coverage or the News content in general is very different from the News in the US.
I really hope that this channel will have an immediate and direct impact on people, the people and the government, so that the deaths because of Fentanyl poisoning will go drastically down, not up!
      Fingers crossed!
      Best regards from Germany, Philipp

@@zenawarrior7442 Thx a lot Zena, I really appreciate 🙏 I hope my written English is okay enough because (for obvious reasons) I‘m not a native English speaker 🥴🥴 And you are right, only take prescribed meds, nothing more. And if you need more, then talk to the Doctor and let him decide what to do. Don’t buy „street stuff“, even from people you know and/or from people you trust, because even they can’t judge if a pill contains Fentanyl.
I had to take opiates a few years back when I underwent three surgeries on my lower back because some discs were kind of destroyed after I had a very serious car crash. So the doctors had to stabilize my lower back with 8 titanium screws and that whole procedure was painful, to say the least 😳
BUT: I only took pills which were prescribed to me from a special doctor, I got my pills from the pharmacy and if I had the feeling that the pills weren’t „working“, I told my doc and he decided what to do. I never ever had the wish/drive to buy one or more pills from anyone, and after the healing process was over I slowly reduced the amount of pills/medicine until the point where I didn’t need opiates anymore.
So I know „a bit“ about opiates and they aren’t „a joke“, hell no!
Have a nice day (or evening, wherever you are), and kind regards from Germany, Philipp 👋

Heartbreaking. I love love love the spirituality of his grandmother. His father was trying hard to stay strong but you can tell the love for his boy is huge and the wound is deep. God I can relate so much. The love of a father for his son is like no other. God bless that entire family.

You could really just tell that Layton’s dad is holding in a lot of pain, heartbreak, emotions, and grief. You see it push it’s way out at the end when he breaks down 💔
I really hope that he is getting the right support to help him. I know he talked about having to be strong for his other son, but it’s ok to be sad and to let yourself break down sometimes. What they are dealing with is so unfair and truly devastating.

His heart beats on now in a 44 year old man who desperately needed it, the man who got my son’s lungs wrote a letter to us. His kidneys, liver are also thriving. They couldn’t revive him, he was brain dead in 6 minutes.

EDIT: I didn'trealize until after my comment that the woman is the grandma.
I've watched so many of these videos, which are completely heartbreaking. But I can't say that I've watched any like this story. The importance of raising children up knowing The Gospel and The Lord is really in my opinion, immeasurable. It brings me joy knowing and hearing these two parents speak of the peace they have because they know where their son is and with who, and the know that they will see him again. I can truly feel their peace.
I can't tell anyone what to do or how to raise their children, but I do believe that nothing is more important that knowing and having a relationship with The Lord and raising their children in the same way. It will not completely take away your sadness, and you will miss your loved one, but it's so much easier to accept the Will of God if you ever go through something like this. God bless this family and all those who have lost a loved one in a similar way. ❤🙏

Just one pill. It's an all too familiar story. It happens to so many innocent people. It happened to my very best friend. Our bond was like sisters and could never picture my life without her. I just recently saw her for the first time in 2 years. I have had to grieve our relationship. Her life will never be the same, she will never be the same and our friendship will never be the same. It effects many many other people than just the immediate family. 😢

What a special and talented young man! I never met him, but I feel robbed that this bright light did not get to grow and impact the world like he would have. I've heard that some people are just too good for this cruel world. We are left with the pain of loss, but we must be at wonder that he was chosen for eternal life at such a young age. May his memory and God's peace forever comfort you.
