But what app do you use I just bought one an can't seem to find a decent app to check the angle, I have an android phone any help is appreciated. Thank you an I hope this finds you well an happy.
The screw on the clamp that holds the stone on the handle needs to be tightened. It's there to close up any gaps between stone and backing. It ensures even pressure across the entire blade stroke.
It does. If you are doing a back pull it'll create more of a burr on the blade so if you're finishing it you dont want to create a burr you're trying to knock it off. And it absolutely depends on what type of steel your knife is. So like vg10 Damascus you don't really want to go higher than 3000 grit. You want it to still be a little toothy. A mirror polished edge won't have enough bite for things like tomato's and such.
Yes, the stones are the same size as the Edge Pro Stones. This system can hold short or longer stones. You can adjust by moving the handle back and forth. Also you can use stones with or without a backplate. You can purchase an accessory that has the ball steel. Different design but still effective.
Taking the angle from the blade is more accurate. Also, you can set angles by slipping tubes onto the vertical under the clamp, then once they are the right length for each angle yu need there's no setting needed, just us the right tube.
@@com2stay I’ll find it out. But the angle when checked in the clamp was identical. So with the same amount of strokes against either side how is it not the same angle when you’ve set it? Nothing moves.
@@ravydavy2306 what type of knife are sharpening? I want to sharpen a full flat grind folder. As both side of the blade are not parallel, one side is used as reference in the clamp, consequently the angle is différents when turned around. Have you really checked the blade angle on both sides?
@@com2stay that’s not a full flat grind If the sides aren’t parallel. That’s a chisel grind?? If it was a full flat grind both sides would be the same. Hence be the same angle when flipped.
*It's a great sharpening device! I recently restored a vintage knife sharpener with a very interesting operating principle. I would like to know your opinion about it ;-)*
You set the sharpening angle to 12°? I thought this should be 20° The native angle of the holder is 15° So if you set the phone flat on the table to zero it should be minus 5° on the wetstone. This is what you read on other websites.
Hi janpat95, yes we set the angle pretty low. We wanted to show people you can set angles pretty low and still sharpen your knife. We get a LOT of questions if we can set the angle bellow 10 degrees. Yes there are guidelines for angles for different knives. But its all entirely up to the user which angle they want. If you want a more sharp angle with a sharper edge and poor edge retentions, sure you can do this. Poor edge retention means you'll be sharpening more often. Low angles is not recommended for bushcraft knifes as the edge would be more prone to chipping.
lost my manual for Ruixin Pro..... can you please supply a link for me to access electronically? is there a summary of the BEST sharpening angles to use for different applications? thanks
Hello Thomas, can you describe what you're doing? Are you using whetstones or diamond stones? Have you tried the marker method? What angle are you sharpening your Japanese knives? To get a better understanding of your set up, you can email us pictures or a video of you sharpening and maybe we can give you some pointers. support@ruixinprosharp.com
Seems like a huge hassle to use a allen wrench to adjust everything everytime you want to shapen a knife. Plus you should do 2+ different grades of wet stone to sharpen a knife I only see one and they didn't even wet it. Just buy a $10 wet stone on Amazon.
The Knife sharpener comes with 4 grades/grits of Whetstones-120,320,600,1500. Unless you can keep a steady angle manually, this sharpener will deliver amazing results.
you dont have to adjust everything unless your knives are all different angles, plus its really easy to change you dont have to allen wrench certain parts, finger tight is enough.
Yes I hate to say but this sharpener is a load of rubbish. Why do you have to use an iPhone to get a degree measurement to sharpen your knife . If you mount the machine to a flat bench the starting pitch should Be 0° The idea is good but it needs more work
I have one of these sharpeners. Gives superb results and unlike many of these types of sharpening systems, you can actually fit big long knives in it

The Wasabi Knives tutorial says to move the stone from tip to bolster but this is going from bolster to tip. Does the direction make a difference?

The only angle that matters is the angle between the sharpening stone and the knife! The angle between the clamp holder and the bench is not relevant.
This is correct!
if the table is 0 degrees. What angle of degree for the sharpening stone holder? TIA

what is the name of the phone app for the angle measurement?
It comes with the OS on the iPhone. Its called "Measure". Once you open the app, at the bottom, you choose measure or level. Use the level.

Are the stones the same size as the Edge Pro stones? Also you guys should think of changing the ball to steel

You need a backer plate on the whetstones so they don’t fall out. Major flaw

Does i need to oil / water the stone b4 use?
Its recommended to use water only.
It's impossible to have the same angle on both side of the knife with theses clamps. I'm very disappointed with the system.

Flat bench is not always a level bench. The knife holding section should be around 15 degrees, then you add the stone angle to get the angle you want.
