  • Cat Anderson did it. You could, too. The 20 minute G is a long tone exercise focusing on soft tones, sub tones, and tone manipulation. It is the yin to the yang of playing loud and high. You want to get back to even after a really hard day of playing? Feeling swollen and tight in the chops? I discuss a series of things you can do to help counteract these totally normal feelings trumpet players deal with regularly.

    Pretty cool lesson. I'm going to give this a try. I think mastering vert skateboarding and the trumpet are the two most difficult things in the world. :D Thanks!

    Awesome that you're back Adam. I really like your presentation and I'm sure once you start uploading more regularly, people will come. Your videos have always been very approachable, as you seem to be, and we're really missing that on RUclips especially when it relates directly to Trumpet. Hope to see more. Frequency and regularity are really key here on RUclips.

    It was helpful to watch you play the 20G. Gave me some good ideas. Thanks.

    I’m doing a slightly different version, the 18x30: I play long soft notes during 30s each, from C in the staff to F# below staff, spaced with 30s without playing. Total of 18 minutes. It helps me with my sound and my air (at the beginning 30s on one breath was difficult).

      Thanks! Ha…noted. I can definitely turn off in-video ads for vids like this - but if it makes you feel better, I make more from this than all of my records streaming combined. Which helps me keep making videos!

    Check out “El Gato” with the Duke Ellington band where Cat Anderson hits a Triple High C, and you can just barely hear someone in the trumpet section exclaim, “Oh SHIT!” 🤣

    I'm seeing people doing it with the teeth touching, so close that you should have trouble getting any sound. Once you get the whisper you shouldn' t get any louder and you should keep the teeth as close as possible. It should be hard to control the waver.

    Keep chops set - mouthpiece on face - breathe through your nose - for the 30 minute G exercise.

    Make sense do this exercise with a practice mute?
    congrats for the material man! It has been nice to meet the chanel!

    • @AdamMeckler
      @AdamMeckler  Год назад +2

      The practice mute adds so much resistance that once you take the mute off, what you were practicing won't match what you do with the mute out. I'm not a huge fan of practice mutes in general, but sometimes you have to use them and that's okay!

    Is it advisable to do 20mins soft G everyday ?...like adding it to the normal routine

    • @AdamMeckler
      @AdamMeckler  Год назад

      I wouldn't. I'm not much of a "same thing every day" routine kind of person. I probably do this one per week, but I could see someone doing it multiple days in a row, or working it in every other practice session. Good luck!

    Im sorry this is no whisper G …. ( closed teeth) this is a normal piano G which can do more harm than good.. if you feel stiff ore something like that after a hard gig..
    Should be constructive critic.😎

    • @AdamMeckler
      @AdamMeckler  Год назад +5

      Yes, this isn't the closed teeth method. I find that way completely impossible to produce sound. But I have to disagree that whisper tone Gs will do more harm than good. And no, this isn't just a normal piano G. A piano G is a tone that can easily be held without issue. A whisper G is much softer than that. As long as the person executing what I'm saying is staying relaxed, there will not be stiffness issues. Much the opposite, in my experience.

      Great channel! Thanks!
      I had he same thought. I always try to catch that VERY soft G that is just in the "beginning" of a real G, before the vibration starts. The tone i still just trying... It´s quite an exercise in keeping an even air flow. And it sounds just like.....a whisper..

      歯を閉じずにウィスパーG 20分、朝と晩に10年以上やっています。音の始まりの、お化けのようなものを掴み、キープします。それによりダイナミクスが良くなりました。
      歯を閉じる方法に興味がありますが、アンブシュアが壊れそうで、まだ試していません。
