Great point! He also said, contradictorily, that LEbron would still be the greatest even if you erased everything he did from Dallas going back to his first year. No cap! He said you could just use his years from 2012 until like 2020! But he is going to put Kareem second to LeBron??? I'm actually not convinced that Nick believes this take. I think it's entirely possible that as a savvy young man looking to stand out in a highly competitive field, he reasoned that taking Lebron over Jordan as the greatest of all-time would be a good way to grab attention and gain notoriety. Likewise, I think placing Jordan third on this list is most likely simply the latest calculated move toward that end. @@zwoptf Though I wouldn't agree with it, one could at least make the case for Lebron being #1 and Jordan #2. But to have Jordan behind Kareem... I mean, that is an indefensible take. That's literally the first time I've ever heard that. Remember as well that most of the people who were calling Jordan the greatest at the time had also just seen Kareem play. It's not like people back then were calling Jordan the greatest and there was this huge backlash of others saying, "Now hold on. We can't forget about Kareem." It's been taken for granted that Jordan was better than Kareem at least since Jordan won his 6th ring, and maybe before that.
You need to go back and watch then, defence was mediocre until the early 90s. Don’t confuse skill/ability with physicality. Steve Kerr himself said it you watch, for examples the Lakers/Celtics finals, it looks like no one is playing defence. You also had illegal defences, which made 1v1 scoring far easier
@@hardwoodthought1213 it's easier to score in 1v1 situations today because the rules have eliminated certain contact that allows defenders to deter players. The opening of the court with more spacing also facilitates easier scoring. These rule changes were made specifically to increase scoring because the league wanted to increase perimeter play. The league averages after NBA prohibited hand-checking and reinstated zone defenses were actually worse than the previous season (2005): 97.2 PPG /44.7 FG% / 106.1 DRTG & (2004): 93.4 PPG / 43.9 FG% / 102.9 DRTG. Now, zone defense definitely makes it easier for teams to contain a single player, but the more recent NBA rules have largely aimed to increase scoring, specifically from wing and perimeter players by giving them ample freedom to move around the court unimpeded.
@@atlien1988 1v1’s were actually much easier in that era considering teams were basically not allowed to play help defense in those days. I knew Nick would do this in an attempt to diminish Jordan, it actually further weakens his argument for LeBron as number 1 (who we all know he's listing). Jordan has TEN SCORING TITLES, which is the most ever and won 7 consecutive. Which is also the most ever. His dominance as a scorer even surpasses Wilt as he's the regular and post seasons all-time leader in career PPG. He has more championships, Finals MVPs, regular season MVPs, Defensive team selections, more steals titles, a DPoY award, and led the Bulls to the first three-peat of the modern era (did it twice). Even the advance metrics say Jordan is the greater player. Lastly, no single player in league history had a greater global impact on the sport of Basketball than Michael Jordan. It's not even debatable. But this guy does the Nick Wright thing and list Jordan #3 in the last 50 years.
The list is a propaganda piece and it’s a joke overall. We all love Nick here but this is laughable. He knows lebron isn’t the goat on his own merits so he has to devalue Jordan to make it seem lebron is.

The whole list is dumb. Why last 50yrs? Modern basketball started with the merger in '77 or when Bird and Magic were drafted in '79/'80. He basically just wanted to jump over Russell and Wilt and overrated Kareem.
I don't get why people are so fanatics about their favorite players? I always said they are 5 players that can be called the GOAT: Jordan, Kareem, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Rusell and Lebron. Only if you have anyone outside those five, then I have a problem. The GOAT is about what you value more in basketball.
He called Jordan's career shockingly Brief.. Jordan played 1351 total games. And came into the NBA at age 21. There's nothing brief about his NBA stay lol
People forget during Kareem's peak that briefly Bill Walton had surpassed him as top center during the Portland's championship run and year after until Walton's injury.
And Kareem missed the playoffs. Dr.J was far more loved then he was and Doc played in a completely different league which let Kareem gobble up all those MVPs. The Knicks, Celtics, won multiple rings, Pistol Pete and Dave Thompson were more entertaining. Then Magic became the bus driver and created Showtime during Kareem peak in the early 80s.
Thats just not true. In the regular seasons Kareem averaged 8 more PPG than Walton while their other numbers were very close. In the 77 playoffs the Blazers won but Kareem absolutely dominated Walton. Kareem: 30/16/4/1/4 on 60/78% Walton: 19/15/6/1/2 on 50/56%
So kareem won five of his six chips with a top 4 player. He's ahead. Lebron lost six finals to Jordan's zero. So his argument is sustain longevity of a high level. Lebron and kareem combine have less scoring titles than Jordan. Nick just hates Jordan for reason. No logical reason to have Jordan less then one. The GOAT is judged on the best 10-12 seasons. No more. A longer career then that does not make you the GOAT.
Jordan has had the highest peak, however he had a lot of help. He is the goat to me however the 6 finals argument is dumb. Those teams he beat were not great as he never was an underdog. Lebron has done more with less for longer. I mean he’s still getting dissed now and he’s in year 20. Mikes year 15 was ceremonially. Jordan had the highest peak. But sustained greatness matters. Michael Jordan went for steals and blocks trying to embarrass opponents (what bullies love). The best defenders concentrate on lowering opponents efficiency (shutting them down). by staying in front of them and not giving up easy buckets. Kareem won all but one of his league MVPs before the merger, while the second best player in the world was winning championships in another league. The best Jordan is the best player ever. The other 2 guys have longevity over him But to me longevity don’t make you the better player but we can argue better career
Longevity is the most overrated thing in the world unless your a lebron Stan. It’s not like Jordan played 5 or 6 years he played for over a decade and came into the league a little older because he was busy winning in college. He more accomplished then essentially everyone else who played in less time is the best two way player of all time. The argument that “ he didn’t play for as long as insert player name “ is stupid and it just sounds like reaching. Lebron plays in an age where the game isn’t as taxing and advancements in sports medicine allow players to play longer then they would have otherwise. Greatness and better career is two different things. Putting yourself in easy situations to boost your career accomplishments is not equal to greatness. For me, Kobe and Jordan are greater people/players. Lebron on the other hand probably is better than Kobe, but not even close to his greatness.

Won 6 championships during what you say was a "short" career 4. included 2 threepeats in that "short" career 5. All these accolades in a "short" career and he even missed 2 full seasons due to injury or retirement 6. Denied 9 superstars in your own top 50 from earning championship 7. Should have earned those 2 MVP's from Barkley and Malone and annihilated them for it. 9. Never joined a super team and loyal playing for 1 team the duration of his championship years. 10. Became a household icon and almost singlehandedly made the league explode in worldwide popularity 11. Was underpaid for most of his career yet still became the first former NBA player ever to become an owner, 12 . Potentially could ve made the finals 9 years in a row had Pippen not had a migraine in game 7 and his father not been killed 13. Flew through the air with grace and never flopped once 14. Never chickened out of a dunk contest, participated in the 3 point contest and always gave the fans a show when he stepped on the court 15. Only 5 games missed due to injury with the exception of the 1985 season 16. Became the first and only 39 and 40 year old to average 25 points a game and oldest to play a full 82 games 17. First and only 40 year old to score 51 points in an NBA game 18. He was a dominant killer

So the argument that he won significantly more in his career than his contemporaries still stands By comparison, LeBron has won 4/19, or 21% of the time. Jordan basically doubled that. Kareem has won 6/20, of 30% of the time So saying he didn’t “win enough” is just a hilariously bad take. He was more of a winner and loss less then the others
@@Kruppt808 Jordan won before LeBron. Kareem took seven years to win championship number 2 after he won with Oscar and until magic showed up. Jordan played 13.5 full seasons only played 17 games in 1986 and 1995.
@@jackierichardson8040 nice way of making a stat work for you. How about this. Jordan went to the finals 6/15 years. Lebron went to the finals 14/19 years. See what I mean. God I hate it when people act like losing in the finals is the same as getting swept or not making it. No it’s not.
no one ever said people discount the years outside the 6 years he was champ. The reason why that is highlighted is because he did that in the same decade! from 1990 to 2000 he won 6 championships! He virtually played 6 seasons in that decade too. 2- 3peats.
Loving this series. Personally I would have Jordan above Kareem but I respect it. Everyone has different opinions. And everyone thinks different things hold more value in someone's greatness and it's cool to see how you balance the value of different accomplishments against eachother
I just realized after watching this video Nick is going to have Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as number one. But he’s going to say LeBron‘s going to surpass him after he gets the scoring title.
Hey Nick, you need to add this to Jordan’s lore, after beating the Piston’s in ‘91 4-0, (and breaking the “Jordan Rules”) the Pistons refused to shake hands!! Also, I’m hearing longevity is where LeBron is beating Jordan. However, is it Jordan”s fault for Winning a National Championship, being a NCAA player of the year and winning the Olympics BEFORE coming to the NBA?
Exactly, since LeBron and Kareem played longer, they're better. They played longer and still can't touch his stats. Kareem has 6 rings but 5 are from Magic.
Rationale for Jordan at number 3 is ludicrous. I think Jordan is the Goat, Magic number 2, Lebron at 3, and Kareem at 4, but hey Nick is entitled to his opinion. Jordan" made" Scottie Pippen, which is significant different than the other two remaining top 2 players. Kareem never made Magic, rather Magic took over him as a rookie and won the MVP in the finals. Lebron went to chase an already champion in D-Wade and when he was of no use to Lebron he went to Kyrie and got Kevin Love. That is why I argue that Magic is the second best player in my opinion, yes he had his bad moments in the finals but like the other greats other than Michael Jordan everyone had those. Since obviously Nick is playing the longevity game, which favors Lebron and Kareem and hurts Magic and Jordan why don't we try comparing all 4 players Best 11 years. This is the amount of time that Jordan played without either injuries (year2) or coming back from retirement. You will clearly see that Jordan is the best regardless of what 11 years you compare with Lebron, Magic, or Kareem. Interesting thing about Jordan unlike the other top two players is that once Jordan began winning, no one was able to take the title from him in the Finals. Just giving my two cents on the debate but like I said before everyone is entitled to their opinion!
Kareem didn’t make Magic? So what’s the % of AST Magic has to Kareem? Magic didn’t even deserve the 1980 FMVP. He didn’t take over the Lakers as a rookie. Stop with the nonsense. How can you discredit longevity and in the same breath create a sample size that fits exactly with who you’re arguing for? That’s objective to you? You can’t even compare Kareem’s 11 years to MJ’s because Kareem played without a 3PT line for the front half of his career. How can you take a title from a guy who barely played half of the 90s?
@@tyjohnson3111 Magic was a LEADER when he came into the NBA. D-WADE was a LEADER when Lebron came and joined him. Scottie was NOTHING before Michael worked with him. See the difference? Kareem wasn't the only one that Magic gave Assists to btw. Are we forgetting worthy, Scott, Perkins etc....
Yup. Spot on take. Nick has to play the longevity game because it's the only metric by which Lebron is better than Jordan. He tries to confuse and obfuscate the debate. When in reality it's very very simple. Jordan was BY FAR the better offensive player than Lebum. 10 scoring titles to Lebum's 1. He was a better defender than LeFraud and one of the greatest defenders of all-time. And he was a better winner. Winning more titles in less time, and with arguably lesser players than Lebron. So how is Lebum worse both offensively AND defensively, worse as a winner, less decorated...But he's somehow the better player?!?! That's the definition of a delusion or just flat out bitter hating. Not to mention MJ's game was far more pleasing to watch to the point casuals and even non basketball fans tuned in just to watch him play.
Right everyone knows that, but what is your EXACT ARGUMENT lol? Are we to start comparing Jordan's non-championship seasons with LeBron and Kareem's??? He wins those too. Or are you one of these people who wants to give them edges for Finals appearances with stacked teams lol??
@@ShineAsTheSun-jb5bz what is it with you people? No one says that Michael Jordan is TRASH. Give it a rest man. Not everyone has to bow at the alter of a man who played a GAME 🙄
correct he won 6 in 7 and didn't lose once he started winning in his prime, but the first 6 seasons before he won ain't no joke either and far better than anyone else's
So, the 3rd best player on the list has more finals MVP and season MVPs than the guys on the top 2 spots. Not to mention more scoring titles, and 9 all defensive teams including a DPOY. Yeah, that makes sense. 🤪
Less all NBA teams tho that's the real proof of greatness MVPs are always slighted and wrong Kobe and Shaq only got 1 a piece all NBA is the best players period and first teams at that and scoring titles are for scorers if your game is all around you won't lead scoring or assist because your top 3 at both but I get it you're a Jordan guy
Imagine putting someone who dominated for a decade with 10 scoring titles as a scorer should and two 3peats behind a choker who lost finals i cant even count how many. Apparently having more all stars and total points and more playing years weighs more heavily than 2 more rings, 2 fmvp, 1 mvp, two 3peats, and a dpoy.

Nick Wright made a 50 player list for the sole purpose of putting Jordan at #3. It's an elaborate troll-job, and shouldn't be seen as anything else.
That and to put Luka in it as well
He called Jordan's career shockingly Brief..
Kareem: 30/16/4/1/4 on 60/78%
Walton: 19/15/6/1/2 on 50/56%
So kareem won five of his six chips with a top 4 player.

4 times in NBA history has a player had 200 steals and 100 blocks in an NBA season. Jordan accomplished it twice and led the league in scoring both times. He WAS the best defender in the league those years and was always the best at his position while a Bull. Btw….he average 35 and 37 points those two seasons….to be that offensively relied upon and efficient AND that defensively dominant makes the defensive accomplishment even more freakish.
Who was jordan guarding ?
Uh, please stop with the best defender in the league stuff. Get by Sidney Moncrief and Gary Payton, then we'll talk. Michael Jordan went for steals and blocks trying to embarrass opponents (what bullies love). The best defenders concentrate on lowering opponents efficiency (shutting them down). by staying in front of them and not giving up easy buckets. Jordan had the talent to do that, but that is not what he consistently did. As for all the all defensive 1st teams and that DPOY award, uggh, they are mostly about popularity with the media.
I agree with you 1000% man!

Scoring titles relative to what? USG%, TSA, TS%, etc.
Thank you Nick Wright for reminding people that Jordan's career wasn't JUST 6 years.
@@AdrianBrown💥
So, the 3rd best player on the list has more finals MVP and season MVPs than the guys on the top 2 spots. Not to mention more scoring titles, and 9 all defensive teams including a DPOY. Yeah, that makes sense. 🤪
Less all NBA teams tho that's the real proof of greatness MVPs are always slighted and wrong Kobe and Shaq only got 1 a piece all NBA is the best players period and first teams at that and scoring titles are for scorers if your game is all around you won't lead scoring or assist because your top 3 at both but I get it you're a Jordan guy
@@countryrah bro ALL-NBA’s ARE LONGEVITY ACHIEVEMENTS. BUT, This is who has the best career…it’s just who’s better which makes this list AWFUL…
If you wanna have lebron ahead of jordan, fine, whatever, but I just don’t see how you can make an argument for kareem being ahead of jordan

There’s no reason to watch the last two videos when it’s obvious now that it’s a stunt for views
I can see it if you really care about longevity a lot
Since when did longevity only become a negative in basketball…and no other sport treats it as such?
There is no argument to have LeBron ahead of Jordan!
List is a joke, nick wright loses credibility
